Horatio's Plan
Calleigh winced as she saw Lieutenant Horatio Caine kneeling next to her.
“Are you okay?” he asked.
She snapped out of her temporary freeze. She gathered her clothes over her body and winced at his pained expression.
Calleigh wiped tears from her face.
She was speechless. What should Calleigh say? How could she say it?
“Who did this to you?” he growled, his face a mix of emotions. Horatio’s hands were clenched. He was angry. Calleigh knew he would be angry at her.. rapist.. but she couldn’t be sure.
She glanced down as she thought about that again. Eric didn’t rape her. She engaged willingly. Calleigh heard her own voice echo in her head.. ‘I want you to fuck me,’ she remembered saying. ‘Are you wet for me?’ he had asked her. ‘Yes,’ she had replied.
She was crying again. Horatio put his finger under her chin and lifted her face up so she looked at him. He wiped the tears from her face. Horatio helped her up and she scrambled to arrange her clothes properly.
He hugged her. His hand caressed her long blonde hair that was in tatters. She let out a sob.
“Tell me which son of a bitch did this to you, Calleigh,” he said. “I swear to God I will kill him.”
She broke the embrace. She looked up to him and spoke for the first time. “You can’t tell anyone about this.”
Calleigh cringed at the look on his face. Horatio was disappointed in her.
“I’ll protect you from him. I wont let him hurt you or touch you again,” he promised her.
She started to cry again. “I don’t want to lose my job. My job is my life.”
Horatio looked surprised. “Who blackmailed you?”
Calleigh wasn’t surprised how much he knew without her saying it. For one, he knew that some SOB had touched her. He knew she was somehow blackmailed.
On her silence he asked. “What did you do? Tamper with evidence?”
Again, Calleigh didn’t answer. She avoided his eyes.
“Cal.. what case was it? The Decker case? You know Cindy Decker, don’t you?”
Calleigh was surprised through her silence he had hit the nail on the head.
“She’s my best friend,” she admitted.
She just wanted to be dead. Calleigh really liked Horatio and he was so disappointed in her. Her life was in tatters. She didn’t have many friends, her job was her life. She couldn’t lose her job – and Horatio as a good friend.
Horatio looked non-complacent as he said, “What proof does Eric have?”
Calleigh looked up, surprised. “I never said it was Eric.”
“You didn’t have to. You’ve been avoiding Eric. I should have guessed.. I’ve seen abuse so many times.” He was angry at himself. He should have seen it! Maybe they could have avoided this.
She didn’t answer. He repeated his question from earlier. “What proof does he have? Is it your word against his?”
“Yes.”
“Well guess what. I saw HIM do it. Two voices against one will get his ass out of here.”
“Don’t lie for me,” Calleigh pleaded Horatio. “Don’t let them take you down to for my mistake.”
He looked at her. “I hate to see you in so much pain. I’m either going to kill that son of a bitch or I’m going to haul his ass outta here. And I’m not joking about either option, not even the first one.”
Calleigh’s lip trembled.
