Blood tests
Chapter: 19
Sara continued to watch Grissom for a little while longer. She just wanted to hold him, heal him, tell him everything was going to be alright. Then the nurse came in pushing the wheel chair.
“Time to get some rest Sara.”
Sara nodded and stood, she leaned over and gently kissed Grissom on the forehead.
“I’ll be back in a little way ok baby….please….hang on. For me…”
She walked slowly to the wheel chair and was pushed back to her room with a heavy heart.
Sara was back in her room, sitting up on the bed, unable to sleep. The rest of the team had arrived and popped in to see how she was doing. They didn’t stay long, they knew Sara was still uncomfortable talking to anyone. But she appreciated that they cared. She just didn’t know what to do with herself, with her thoughts. The nurse had tried in vain to get her to eat, but she just couldn’t keep anything down. She struggled out of bed and headed for the bathroom. She dabbed a little water on her face and looked at herself in the mirror. She looked like she’d been in a boxing match, and lost…badly. And then she cried, crumbling to the floor. Curling into a tight ball, she sobbed uncontrollably.
There was a knock on Sara’s door and Catherine walked in. She was surprised to see that Sara wasn’t in bed. Then she heard it. Faint sobbing coming from the bathroom. She slowly pushed open the door and her heart broke seeing Sara, curled up on the floor, her emotions dripping to the floor.
“Oh Sara!” She said softly, getting down onto the floor and taking her into her arms. She held her tightly, swallowing the hard lump in her throat as Sara cried into her shoulder.
Catherine had managed to get Sara off the floor and back into bed after a good fifteen minutes of uncontrollable weeping. She sat on the edge of the bed.
“Sara, erm, I’m sorry to ask this now but you know I’m going to need a statement from you?”
Sara nodded.
“Are you ready to tell me what happened?”
Now Sara shook her head. “Not yet…please…I….I…..just can’t. Not just yet. Give me just a little longer. Please?” Sara was begging.
Catherine took her hand. “Ok, it can wait a little while longer.”
“Thank you.”
Catherine tried to smile.
Doctor Peter’s came back in to check Sara’s vitals again. “Why aren’t we sleeping Sara?” He asked.
Sara didn’t say anything.
“I know it’s hard, but you really need to rest and get some sleep. Promise me you will at least try?”
Sara nodded a lie.
The Doctor headed back towards the door but as he passed Catherine, he leaned close to her.
“Miss Willows can I have a word with you outside for a moment?”
Catherine looked at him. “Sure,” she said a little surprised, but got up to follow him. She patted Sara on the leg. “I’ll be back in a sec ok?”
Sara nodded.
When they were out of the room, the Doctor leant against the wall and folded his arms tightly across his chest.
“What is it?” Catherine asked. She knew something was going on.
“We have just got Gil and Sara’s blood tests back.”
Catherine could feel her body tightening. Gil had been raped, had he caught something?
“Gil?” She asked shaking a little.
“ There’s no problem with Gil. His tests came back clear. Thankfully he didn’t catch anything from his ordeal.”
Catherine breathed out a deep thank full breath. “Thank god”, but then frowned. “Sara?”
The doctor nodded.
Catherine was confused. “But…she wasn’t…”
“No, she wasn’t raped. It’s not that.”
“Then what?” She didn’t know where this was going.
“Did Sara mention to you that she was pregnant?”
Catherine’s head shot up like a bullet. “WHAT?!”
The Doctor raised his brow. “Sara is pregnant!”
