Chapter 18
Whitney sat across from the person with hate in her eyes. "You are sure of this?"
The person nodded. "Yes Whitney. I saw Vinnie take them over to Paulie and his house the other night and then when I looked in the window Paulie was laying on the bed sleeping with her and the kids. The night before he had his son on his chest."
"Kids?" Whitney asked confused.
"Yeah twins. Girl and boy. "
Whitney knew their visitation time was almost up. "This is what I want you to do."
Vinnie woke Paulie up the next morning to get ready for work. Sr had given Jamie the day off to go to the doctor for her yearly checkup. Within thirty minutes the boys were dressed and walked out the door after each of them kissed their girls and the babies goodbye.
Across the road two people were watching the house with glee. They had heard Jamie talking about her doctor's appointment. thanks to the radio they had hidden at the opened window. Now all they had to do was wait on her to leave.
Jamie came out of the room dressed. "Are you sure your going to be ok here?"
Christy looked at her and laughed. "Of course I am. The kids are sleeping and while they are doing that I can grab me a shower. The monitor will reach into the bathroom so if one of them stir I will hear it. You go now."
Jamie couldn't shake the feeling something was going to happen. Something bad but after a few minutes of Christy assuring her that they would be fine she finally walked out the door and left the house. Christy laughed and went to check on the twins before finally walking into the bathroom, setting the intercom on the sink and turning on the shower.
As soon as the water cut on the two people snuck up on the porch. They waited a few minutes before one of them slipped the key silently into the lock and opened the door. They looked left and right and then slipped past the bathroom quickly, for the door was opened. They already had all the baby supplies at one of the houses they were going to. They picked up the kids and slipped back out the door silently as they had came in, locking it behind them. They slowly walked down the street to where the car was at and then securing the kids inside, pulled away.
Christy was in the shower and cocked her head. She looked out at the monitor and then her eyes met the clock on the wall. She had been in there for thirty minutes and quickly got out. She walked into her room and threw the monitor on the bed and got dressed only then turning to look at the cribs. She rushed over and started crying as she ran out of the room and called 911.
"911. What is your emergency?"
"My kids have been kidnapped. I was in the shower and now they are gone. I should have known that something wasn't right."
"Mam. Could it be that they are outside."
"How in the hell are they outside. They are only three months old. Oh God someone took my babies."
"Mam. You need to calm down. Are they with their father?"
"No. Their daddy is working and their aunt is at a doctor's appointment. They were just in their cribs before I got into the shower."
The lady at the other end knew then the woman was serious. "Mam. What is your address?"
"1707 RockRidge Road."
"Mam. There are officer's on the way."
The lady continued to talk to Christy until they heard the sirens in the background. Christy thanked her and hung up the phone and opened the door. The officers came into the house and started talking to her.
"Mam. What is your name?"
"Christy Jenkins."
"Christy. You say the kids were in their cribs when you got in the shower?"
"Yes sir. I never even heard anything on the monitor."
"Mam. Was there anything strange that you know of once you realized they were gone? Any broken windows?"
Christy shook her head crying.
"There was no forced entry Sarge."
It was then that Christy's head shot up. "Oh my.. The door. The kitchen door was locked when I got in the shower and then it was still locked whenever I let you in. Oh god. They had a key. Please someone call their father and tell him to come home."
One of the officer's knew Paulie was their father and made the call to the shop. Within a few minutes he returned. "He is on his way Christy. What were they wearing?"
Christy turned to look at him. "Paul was wearing a blue onesie. Mary a pink. Their baby blankets are still in the bed."
All of a sudden the front door came flying open and Paulie ran to her gathering her in his arms. "I am so sorry Christy. I never should have went to work today."
Paul and Vinnie came walking in the door and hugged Christy. Vinnie went into the kitchen to get her something to eat and then looked over noticing the radio. He went to tell the officers which took it as evidence. Jamie came walking through the door.
"Where's the fire?"
Vinnie took her in his arms. "Jamie. Someone took the twins while Christy was in the shower."
Everyone watched as Jamie took two steps towards Christy, met her eyes and passed dead out from the shock.
Jamie woke three hours later and shook her head to clear it. "Please tell me it was a dream honey?"
Vinnie shook his head and held her into his chest. "Paulie is beating himself up right now and Christy is sleeping. They had to give her a sedative to knock her out. I mean who would want to steal those two kids. Christy and Paulie haven't hurt a soul."
Jamie just buried her head into his chest and cried harder.
Paul went looking for his son and found him on the back porch holding two blankets. He looked up as his dad came outside and tried to smile. As Paul sat down beside him he started speaking.
"I never thought I would find happiness Pop's. But having my son and daughter as well as their mother in my life, I finally felt complete. Just this morning I was thinking about how they were going to grow up and how we were going to teach them about choppers and how Mary would be a cheerleader and Paul would play football and how.." He finally let the sobs overtake his body as his father held him close.
"We'll find them Paulie. We will. I swear this to you and whoever did it is going to pay."
