Does This Make Us Friends?
I couldn't leave the Amelia/Zoe thing unresolved. I know it wasn't a big part of the series, but I couldn't leave it as Amelia's just a bitch. Besides, so far we've only really seen Zoe from Anubis' perspective, and he adores her. This is what she looks like to the rest of the world. Almost completely told through dialogue - trying something out.
"Why did you always give me such a hard time?"
"You went to a different Kindy than the rest of us, so you were a stranger to us when we all started school."
"That's no reason to be mean to someone for twelve years."
"Zoe, look at it from my perspective. I was the leader of the girls - the oldest, the smartest, the most outspoken, the most confident. Suddenly we're at a school where we're the youngest, and there's a new girl added to the mix who happens to be a complete genius. I guess I just felt threatened, so I struck first."
"Amelia, I was never a genius."
"You were reading Sherlock Holmes when the rest of us were struggling with picture-books. You don't think that made you a genius to the rest of us?"
"Wow. I never though of it like that."
"Yeah. And when you grew older, you were still strange. You never played with dolls, or anything like that as a kid. When you were a teenager, you didn't care about make-up or guys."
"I didn't need to. I've been dating Anu since I was sixteen, and loved him for longer. I wasn't interested in other guys."
"We didn't know that, though. To the rest of the girls, you were a threat to us. You're smart, confident, and beautiful."
"I'm not beautiful. Striking I'll agree with."
"Fine, you're striking. Either way, guys always watch you."
"Really?"
"Duh! Of course they do. But you've always been so anti-social they were afraid to even talk to you, let alone ask you out."
"It's weird, thinking about it that way."
"Maybe. But that's how it was to us."
"So... why are you being nice to me now?"
"We're seventeen. I'd like to think I've outgrown the jealousy. Besides, you're engaged - you're not a threat to my relationship."
"Relationship? Amelia, you never stay with the same guy for more than a week anyway."
"Hey, that's not true! I've been with Brad for... almost two weeks now!"
"Wow, a record."
"Heh... so can I come to the wedding?"
"Of course... hey, does this mean we're friends?"
"Yeah, I guess it does. Is that a problem?"
"Not in the slightest."
Anubis smiled to himself. Amelia was right - both girls had matured enough to get past their differences. He was glad that Zoe finally had a girlfriend her own age. He turned to leave, then spun around when he heard Amelia's next question.
"So what's Anu like in bed?"
"Amelia!"
"Why did you always give me such a hard time?"
