Author's Notes: Sequel to "The Mask".
Don wakes up. His eyes spring open and he sits up fast. Even by no touching his forehead he can guess that it’s sweaty. He’s panting, he’s almost out of breath. He doesn’t realize first where he is. It’s not his apartment. He’s at Charlie’s.
Did he scream? Did he wake up Dad or Charlie? What was that dream? It was so real. Charlie. The blood. The scene. Charlie. Dead. In his arms. Oh dear Lord. What if he failed? What if it really happens some day? What if he really is late? Too late to save Charlie?
He rubs a hand over his face wiping the sweat away. Why does he dream things like that? He sighs out frustrated and confused. Of course. It has to be the fact that he cares a lot about his little brother. Yeah, that makes sense. And yet...
Something inside him tells Don that this feeling in his stomach is not the affection one brother has for the other. It’s more. Much more. And this feeling scares the shit out of Don. What if he really has fallen in love with Charlie? Fallen in love. With his brother.
No, bullshit. That was just a dream. Don smiles relieved. Yeah, a dream. Just a dream. A meaningless and completely harmless dream. Nothing else.
