On The Way To Heaven

Yvette lay in Craig's arms on the floor in her room, looking out at the sky.

Yvette- It's so cold... I don't think...
Craig- Vette stop...
Yvette- I'm wearing every warm thing I have... It won't go away...
Craig- Vette...

He knew it was coming. He knew she'd only be there a little longer. He wanted to run and get her parents but he knew there was no point. She didn't want to die in a hospital.

Craig- I'll never love anyone else like I love you.
Yvette- I know. I don't doubt it. Give Angie a thousand kisses from me. Tell her I'll always be there when she plays Dino...

Craig laughed a little

Craig- It's not fair.
Yvette- Life's not fair Craig.
Craig- We should have had more time...
Yvette- I know. Craig if I leanred anything is that life is life. We need to just go with it. Don't stop living please okay?
Craig- I...
Yvette- I love you Craig. I'll love you where I am going too.
Craig- Vette... wait...
Yvette- It's so cold still... Atleast that light is there.
Craig- Light?
Yvette- It's so pretty. Mm... it's... warmer too...
Craig- Yvette, no.
Yvette- I love you Craig. Remember that...

She closed her eyes and after a deep sigh she died. Craig held her tightly and tears poured down his face.

After a little he got up, picked her up, and lay her in bed. He left the room and knocked quietly on her parents door. When her mother opened the door she knew. She screamed.

Mom- NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Her mom collapsed on the floor and quickly Craig kneeled to hold her. Her dad, now awake, bent down and together they all cried.

Craig stood next to Angie, Joey, Marco, Spinner, and Yvette's parents at the funeral. He could barely see through the rain and his tears as they all stood under umbrellas.

Priest- And now if anyone would like to say a few words they are free to speak.

Everyone looked at each other and then at Craig. He hadn't thought of speaking, but with the eyes of half of Degrassi on him and Yvette's parents too hurt to speak, he knew that it was something he needed to do.

Craig- Uh... Yvette... I loved Yvette. And she meant... everything to me. I guess in a way she completed my being. I was whole when she smiled. When she laughed. I almost lost the chance to tell her... to show her how I felt. But the special thing about Yvette was that she knew deep inside her how much I, we, all loved her. And even though love freaked her out a bit, death didn't. She didn't want to hurt any of us because she knew and knows just how badly we all love her, we all miss her, how much she meant to us. But... she can't hurt us. She's too loving and too special. I will never... never stop loving her. She will be with me for the rest of my life, watching over me. She wants us to live and love in her memory. And we should. Because life is worth living. People are worth loving. Yvette taught me that. I will never forget.

He stopped talking and walked over to her grave and knelt in the mud.

Craig- You are my only. You are my sun. I will always love you...

**20 yrs later**

Craig watched his daughter roll around on the floor giggling with the brand new puppy he had brought home. His wife Gail plopped down on the sofa next to him and sighed.

Gail- A puppy Craig?
Craig- Every growing kid needs a puppy!
Gail- I guess... It'll be alot of work.
Craig- Not too much...
Gail- *laughing* You are crazy. Well... I guess that is why I love you so darn much.

Gail placed her head on his shoulder and sighed.

Gail- You know how to love so well. I swear you do...
Craig- Well I learned from the best...

Gail, not paying attention to Craig anymore but to their daughter looked at him confused.

Gail- Hm?
Craig- Oh... no nothing...

As she smiled and slid off the sofa to play with the puppy as well Craig felt his being turn warm. He knew Yvette was there, telling him he was okay. And he was. Because of her.
