What Love Gave Us *FINAL*
Note: Lyrics "For You I Will" Monica from Space Jam Soundtrack, Catholic Prayer by unknown
"Honey, what are you doing outside? It's freezing out here" Adam, asked stepping outside after spying Tommy on the front porch. "Just trying to get this pressure off my back from these contractions is all." Adam rested his hand on Tommy's shoulder after he sat down in the porch swing; Adam gently ran his hand along Tommy's back. "Is it the baby?" he asked softly. "I don't know they're Braxton's I'm sure, it was like this yesterday. I would have a few for a few hours them they would just stop then they would start again." Tommy said hissing as another began Adam taking his hand, feeling Tommy's grip tighten. "Easy sweetheart, remember to breathe" Adam said, "Mom are you ok?" the two looked up at Lydia who had snuck in. she sat down her backpack walking over to Tommy. "Yeah just some Braxton hick's contractions, they should stop soon." Lydia nodded, seeming a little sad. Tommy asked, "What's wrong baby?"Lydia cracked a smiled as she said, "Akio asked me to the Winter Ball, and I was kind of hoping to get some shopping done. Not if you're hurting, we should stay home" Tommy shook his head "I think I could handle it long enough for you to find a dress." "Only if you're sure you want to do that Tommy." Adam said as Tommy gave a nod and a gentle smile. "Alright, but get your homework done first!" Adam said, Lydia gave a groan and got up as her parents laughed watching her pick up her backpack and go inside, He turn to Tommy and asked " Are you really sure you want to go?" "Yes, I'm sure, I need out of the house with you two anyway." Adam smiled kissing his temple as Tommy looks at his watch and says,
"I think they've stopped, it's been more than 10minutes, and I haven't had one, about time. Hopefully they'll wait until we're on our way home to start back." Adam nodded as he gentle tucks a piece of Tommy's hair behind and ear Tommy catches his stare. "What's wrong?" he asks as delicate blush settles on his cheeks his long dark hair settles around his face. "I would love to know how I could be so blessed to have you in my life." Tommy's blush darken.
Adam rests his hand on Tommy's stomach and adds, "This just makes everything even more beautiful about you." Tommy smiles as he pulled Adam in for a kiss. Adam pets him after they pull away and says, "Maybe we should go a head and take Lydia to get her dress, it is the weekend. Are you still up for it?" Tommy nods as Adam carefully helps him up meeting him for another kiss before calling for Lydia. "What's wrong, is mom ok?" She asks bounding down the stairs Tommy gives a chuckle as he says, "No I'm fine, and were just going let you get your dress." Lydia smiled carefully hugging Tommy as he kissed her head. "Let's go kid" Adam smiled grabbing his keys from the counter. Adam helps Tommy in the car, once comfortable a sudden pain catches Tommy off guard as he grips tight to the arm of his seat trying to hide the pain of his contraction hoping they weren't starting again.
Adam helped Tommy from the car, his hand grazing his stomach; he froze as he softly asked, "When did they start back?" Tommy bit his lip as he said "On the way here, don't tell Lydia, I would love to see her pick out her dress first." Adam nodded taking his hand as they walked in to the mall, Tommy tugging at his coat trying to hide his stomach. "If you need me to call Haylee don't hesitate to tell me ok?" Adam said softly feeling his hand squeezed tightly Lydia looking through a few dresses, a few seconds after his contraction stopped Tommy nodded. He sat down on bench bending forward trying to remove the pressure from his back. He winced as another contraction ripped through his body "Damn it, their getting stronger." He whispered as Adam sat down next to him "I'm going call Haylee to come take you home," Adam, said softly, the two waiting for Lydia to come out in the dress she had chosen. Tommy shook his head another contraction dying off. "I'm ok, I promise. I need to be here, it's important to Lydia." He said Adam sighed as he nodded, saying, "I know, I just think we should go home so you can re…" Adam froze as Lydia came out, her dress a garnet in color halter style that came just above her feet. "Wow, if that doesn't stun Akio nothing will."
"I'll say you look really beautiful Lydia." Tommy smiled pretending to be ok for his daughter's sake while another contraction started, he said, "Get a few bits of silver jewelry to really set it off." Lydia nodded and added, "I was thinking a little bit of Emerald or Jade too." Adam nodded, as a sale associate came out from behind a rack getting a full view of Lydia in the dress she had help her choose. "Any boy who denies you in that dress needs a kick in the ass." Tommy and Adam chuckled listening to Lydia "And my both dads taught me how to give one." The middle-aged woman laughed and said "Your parents are smart, self defense is not something anyone should go with out."
"These two about to open a martial arts school, if you know anyone who needs lessons they'll getting two of the best teachers I know and I've watched them fight each other." Lydia smiled. "Thank you, now when you get ready I'll have to walk you to our men's division just down the way here. Our computer system is down, so we really can't ring anyone up." Lydia glanced back at Tommy and Adam as they nodded. "Ok, just give me a few minutes to change." She said stepping back into the dressing room a few moments later returning with the dress in her hands, her jeans and top back in place.
"Maybe we should call Haylee." Tommy said softly while Lydia bought her dress, Adam nodded as he said, "I'll tell Lydia you're feeling sick and we'll get out of here." Tommy nodded taking Adam's hand a contraction hit him hard. "Breathe sweetheart breathe." Tommy nodded as Lydia came by catching part of the conversation "Mom what's wrong?" she asked at a whisper being sure no one heard her but herself, Tommy and Adam "I started hurting when you were trying on your dress , there much stronger than the last set." Tommy said at a whisper as they started out of the store. "Mom, you should have said something, this could have waited."
"Lydia back off! I'm in an enough pain as it is I don't need you being a thorn in my ass too!" Tommy snapped his daughter caught by surprise by the sharp tone. Lydia tried not to show her hurt as she took her dress and said "I need to look at something, I'll meet you both at the car." with those words Lydia walked away, wiping away the tears she had hid until that moment. "Tommy what the hell is wrong with you! I know you feel like shit right now but that was way out of line!" Adam said harshly right as the realization of what just happen hit his husband's mind. "I know I can't believe I just did that." Adam sighed as he sat down on a bench next to Tommy in the walkway of the stores. "I know you didn't mean it, She may be just 16 but she's still just a kid Tom, just give her a few to calm down and I'll contact her and we'll go home." Tommy nodded taking Adam's hand as another contraction started. "Tell her I'm really sorry." Tommy said once his contraction died as Adam helped him up an they walked back to where they came in, Adam pulled out his cell phone asking Lydia by text message where she was, and when she was ready to meet them where she had looked at dresses.
"She forgives you, and she was looking at a replica of a Katana to hang up on the wall in a locked display case for the school." Adam smiled his arm around Tommy's shoulder as he nodded. "She's getting it and is on her..." Adam stopped as Tommy hushed him the two listening two a popping sound accompanied with screaming. Adam almost felt his heart stop when he noticed a figure in the hallway where they stood yards away, a large gun in his hands; he quickly shoved Tommy into the shop they had been standing next to not stopping until the two locked themselves in dressing room. Adam tried to get his heart rate under control as he said, "That was a fucking AK!" The sudden explosion of gunfire startled the two as glass shattered out side in the shop, Adam shoved Tommy on the bench in the dressing room getting on as well, all seemed quite except the crunch of broken glass and rattling of racks, a sign the gunman was still in the shop.
When the crunching sound of glass seem to fade away Adam crept off the bench and looked under the door, with no sign of the gun man, Adam got up and helped Tommy sit up and asked "Are you ok sweetheart?" Tommy nodded when he said "Oh God, Adam, Lydia, I have to find her I have to make sure she's ok."
Adam immediately grabbed Tommy as he tried to get to the door. "Tommy, No, it's too dangerous for you and me both." Tommy shook his head nearly in tears "Adam please I need to know she's ok!"
"Tommy, if I let you go out there, you might as well take their guns and kill me yourself. Losing Lydia would be hard enough, losing you… I couldn't live." Adam said watching Tommy double over grasping his stomach "Tommy!" Adam rushed to his side as he begged "Honey what's wrong, talk to me." "The baby, I think its coming Adam." Adam nodded as he help Tommy lay down on the wide bench as he said "Nice and easy, I guess those weren't Braxton Hicks earlier were they?"
"They had to be, contractions don't come in sets like that," Tommy said as he took Adam's hand "I'm scared" he said softly Adam reached up petting him as he said "Don't be I'm going to be right here." Tommy nodded as he said softly "At least you're getting your wish of helping me deliver the baby." Adam chuckled as Tommy hissed at his pain as a sharp cry escaped him. "Oh god, My water broke." Tommy managed to say,a contraction stronger that the last few beginning. Adam nodded as he said, "I was hoping to do this at home with Haylee's help, but she showed me how and I wouldn't change a thing about this." Tommy smiled gently as Adam added "Come on lets get these off ok?" Adam reached down unbuttoning Tommy's pants, with a hold of his boxers Adam carefully pulled off the clothes, He slipped off his jacket draping over Tommy's legs for some sort of decency.
"This might hurt, but I need to see how dilated you are, Now just relax ok." Tommy lightly whined as two of Adam fingers reached inside his body. "I know baby I'm sorry" "Is everything ok?" Tommy asked hissing as another contraction started. "You'll need to start pushing with your next contraction, I should watch for the baby, but I'm going to stay beside you until I feel the head ok?" Adam's free hand reached down pressing lightly on the small opening, Tommy nodded as he said, "I need to sit up." quickly Adam helped him, propping him up against the dressing room wall. Tommy felt the beginnings of another contraction as he gave his first push. Gentle encouraging words escaped from Adam as he fought back tears.
Lydia's heart pounded as she looked around the collectors shop, she looked down at the corpse the man who she had just paid for her sword, his eyes open and lifeless. Lydia sighed as she shook her head approaching the bullet-ridden body, she remembered a prayer she had learned many years before and said it softly as she reached up closing his eyes.
Eternal rest, grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.
Lydia picked up her sword as she thought; who ever this was could have hurt her beloved parents. The simple thought made her temper flair to a dangerous level, her mind flashed to a few months back when Adam had been teaching sword training with and adjusted Bamboo stalks. The stalks spilt half way into four-quarter section to minimize pain when struck, slipping it over her head Lydia pulled the Katana from it sheath. As she set out to try to find her parents ready to take on who ever did this.
"Oh My God, Adam It hurts!" Tommy groaned after he stop pushing. "If I could take it away, I would." He listen to his husband as he tried to catch his breath "I need to look." Tommy nodded watching Adam pull of his short-sleeved shirt, Tommy hissed looking at Adam a flare of anger in his eyes "Cleaning up a little blood, sorry if that hurt sweetheart." Tommy again nodded as Adam leaned forward kissing his forehead. "Look at me" he said softly Tommy looked up Adam's eyes looked with his "I love you." Adam said Tommy gave a weak smiled that quickly turn to pain as he gave another push he reached up wrapping his arms around Adam's neck, clinging for dear life. "Good job Tommy, come on baby push."
Lydia walked in to a large opening in the mall seeing the man Adam had seen earlier.
"May I ask why you're doing this?" She said the gunman seemed stunned at he turn to her "Does a life mean nothing to you? Answer my question!" he remained silent, looking at the katana in Lydia's hands. "You could take me out faster than I could you. Are you too afraid to try?" She asked the man gave a smug grin as he said, "You're about stupid, a simple sword against a powerful military grade gun?"
"Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege"
"Stop with your Confucius bullshit bitch, if you're going to fight, let's fight."
"As you wish"
Lydia held her katana with both hands the fire in her eyes seemed to radiate as she swung at his waist she was immediately blocked. Lydia spun around with the katana in one hand, slicing the gunman's arm deeply. "A powerful gun against a trained Krav Maga fighter, Are you sure that's so stupid?" she said, he lifted the AK in one hand in his other pointing it at her crying "Fuck you bitch!" She quickly grabbed the barrel of the gun pointing the gun off to the side all shots expelled missing her completely.
Lydia held the katana to his neck saying, "You can leave here alive, or we can keep fighting and I could kill you." He chuckled "Not so sure of yourself are you? You would have said you would kill me if you were." Lydia pressed the blade harder against his neck, angling up to his Adam's apple as she sneered. "I said 'could' because I don't want to kill you or even be in this fight. All I want is to find my parents."
"Then go find them." He said Lydia lighten the pressure of the blade on the strangers neck. "How can I trust you not to attack me?" She asked, she listen to a rapid clicking sound as he said, "I'm out of ammo, I couldn't do anything if I wanted too." With his tone sincere, Lydia lowered the katana as she said "I probably shouldn't be letting you go, but I just want to find them." she took hold of the blood soaked shirt sleeve and ripped it off tying it tight over his arm she had sliced open minutes before. "I'm sorry for any this, if I've hurt anyone you know." He said she only glared "Just don't do anything this stupid again." Lydia tying the make shift bandage for the fourth time, and turn to leave.
After a few steps, Lydia caught a refection in the glass, the attacker running at her full speed the AK held at the barrel as if it were a club. Lydia lifted the katana as he swung the AK hitting her left hand with a sickening crack knocking the katana from her hands, she let out a piercing scream, she charged him taking him by the head, snapping his neck, she watched as his lifeless body as it fell to floor.
Tommy's heart began to race at the scream that had broken the silence, He looked at Adam as he said "That was Lydia, oh god Adam." He cried out as a contraction hit him suddenly, Tommy gave a push and let go of a strangled cry half in fear for his daughter the other in pain. Adam wiped away more blood when he noticed something black and red. "Tommy I can see the head sweetheart, all we can really do is hope that wasn't…"
"Mom, Where are you?" Adam froze at the voice and jumped up opening the dressing room door. She smiled seeing Adam as she raced over, "Lydia! Thank God! Get in here!"
Adam said pulling her into the dressing room, she dropped down in the floor next to Tommy as he said, and "Oh god you're ok!" A contraction shot through his body as Tommy gave another push Lydia realizing what was going on she took Tommy's hand warm due to the fever from labor coursing through his body.
"Tommy stop pushing ok, I've got the head." Adam said his heart racing, Lydia taking the sleeve of her jacket wiping away the sweat rolling down Tommy's face. "Leave your jacket on. I'll need something warm to wrap the baby in in just a minute," Adam said Lydia nodded as she said, "Mom's would be warmer, I think his fever just broke" Adam nodded remembering Haylee telling in about a fever sometimes with labor.
"This is it Tommy last one." Adam said Tommy groaned giving the last bit of strength he had, a cry escaped him quickly over powered by the baby in Adam's hands "Tommy, It's a Boy!" Adam said laying his new son against Tommy's chest. "I need to get your jacket off mom" Lydia said easing it off one arm, Adam hurried to help with the other. Once the jacket was off, and Lydia wrapped up the baby boy, Adam took out a pocketknife severing the cord tying a knot in it tightly to cut off circulation through it. Tommy smiled at the little boy in his arms "He's perfect." Adam said his fingers delicately smoothing his son's hair.
Tommy chuckled and said, "Is that the reason he looks exactly like you?" Adam giggled as he kissed Tommy when the baby boy began to fuss. "Hey it's ok," Adam, said looking at is son and looked back at Tommy as he said, "I know what other name you want to use, and It sounds perfect for him."
"What did you decide on a full name?" Lydia smiled "David Ly Park" Tommy said the three jumped when the door suddenly open Haylee and Anton on the other side "Thank God! I'll get the paramedic," Anton said as he quickly turn back around from the sight of the blood. Haylee groaned as she knelt down saying "Baby!" Lydia and Tommy both chuckled. Adam noticing Lydia had a swollen hand he asked, "What did you do?"
"I fought with the guy who did the shooting he attacked me and knocked my katana out of my hand with his rifle. He hit me hard, I think he broke something." Haylee carefully began pressing on her hand when she jumped wincing at one spot in the middle of her hand. "Your right, It is broken I can reset it here and you won't have to have a cast it on for very long, Should come off in time for the winter ball." She said, Lydia nodded, as she looked away trying not to cry out as a sharp pain shot through her hand and up her arm.
"In here boys" Anton said as one of the men looked at the baby and asked "Who wants to carry him?" Lydia smiled as Tommy handed her Ly who had started to fall asleep. "Let me take him, you better be careful with that hand girl." after helping get Tommy on the stretcher the EMT looked a Lydia's hand "How did you break it?" he asked as she shook her head "Fell trying to run, tripped and fell on one of the clothing racks."
"Come on you can ride with Dr Oliver, and in the back." He said. Adam kissed Tommy as he said, "Haylee and I meet you there, and I love you." Tommy nodded as Haylee handed Ly back, Tommy delicately kissing his head as the three were off to the hospital.
Adam smiled at Tommy watching Ly sleep, He walked in to the nursery and beside his husband who turned to him and smiled back. The two stood there at their son's crib as Tommy said softly. "We have everything now, a son, a daughter, we open the school in two weeks and Connor's coming to help out while take care of Ly." Adam slipped his arm around Tommy's shoulder when the doorbell rang. "That has to be Akio." Adam said as he hurried down the stairs, Tommy reached down petting Ly and slipped out.
The two could not help laughing at the stunned look on Akio's face as his girlfriend came down the stairs her garnet dress she had picked out almost a month ago. "You Look… Wow…" Adam only smiled as he remember the night he met Tommy after prom right after they started dating to have their own prom in his backyard because the school wouldn't allow them together. His mind playing the song they danced to, they lyrics ringing true to him. As he watched him take pictures of Lydia and Akio, an Idea began to churn in his head.
"Daddy, what's wrong?" Lydia asked snapping him out of thoughts
"Nothing, I knew your grandma's necklace would be good with your dress." Lydia smiled as she touched the jade pendant. Tommy reached over hugging Lydia as he said, "Home by midnight, I will be checking for you." Lydia groaned as Akio laughed and said, "My folks are the same way. Come on" Tommy smiled closing the door, and looked at Adam as he asked, "So what were you really thinking about?"
"Our prom, the one we had in my parent's backyard."
"Oh my god, there's a trip down memory lane." Tommy chuckled as Adam took his hand walking him in the living room. "Remember the song we danced to?" Adam said sitting him down on the couch as he walked over to the computer messing with it for a moment. Tommy chuckled at the familiar beat, as Adam took his hand pulling him into the middle of the living room floor as he whispered the words softly.
When you are feeling lost in the night,
When you feel your world just isn't right
Call on me I will be waiting
Count on me, I will be there
Anytime the times get too tough,
Anytime your best isn't enough
I'll be the one to make it better,
I'll be there to protect you,
See you through,
I'll be there, and there is nothing
I won't do.
I will cross the ocean for you
I will go and bring you the moon
I will be your hero your strength
Anything you need
I will be the sun in your sky
I will light your way for all time
Promise you,
For you I will.
"Tommy, baby what's wrong? Why are you crying" Adam said gently wiping away his tears. "Just all we've gone through, since you asked me to go out with you." Tommy said trying to get his feelings under control. "Can you believe it's been 13 years, ever since prom night when you said 'I Love You' and I knew you meant it before you ever said it." Tommy said as he added smiled looking at him as he said, "You never really had to say it, even before we did, I could see it when you smiled at me when we were talking. Adam even if it was just a simple smile from you, when we passed in the hallway at school. I knew you loved me." Adam smiled as caressed Tommy's cheek saying.
"I smiled at you because you were on my mind, you never left, and I wouldn't let you. Everything I did you were on my mind, how to better things when everyone else, just wanted to tear us apart. You're the most beautiful thing to ever enter my life, I don't have to be reminded of what love is, I just look at what love has given me."
