Chapter 17

And they did push themselves. They pushed themselves harder than any of them thought they were capable of being pushed. However, three and a half days later, seven beautiful, gleaming, theoretically working spaceships were attached to the scaffolding, and seven weary, somewhat oil and dirt smeared Rangers gazed up at the results.

“Well, we’ve got them together and according to all the data, they’re structurally sound,” Tommy said as he wiped a hand over his eyes, and Kimberly grinned up at the ships and gripped Tommy’s arm tightly.

“And they look great too!” She giggled. “And they’ve got some WAY nice stereos! Way to go, Billy . . .and everybody!”

“They do look great, “Zack said. “And, according to all the data and the ground tests, they’re ready to fly.”

“But are we ready to fly them?” Aisha asked.

“Well, we’ll just have to find out,” Adam nodded stubbornly, his jaw set with resolve.

“So, we need to get this show on the road!” Jason declared, and Rocky nodded.

“I’m ready!”

“Ay-yi-yi Rangers!” Alpha exclaimed as he waved his long arms, and they ducked. “I hope you can rescue Billy!”

“So do we, Alpha,” Kimberly said suddenly somber as Alpha paced, as if his energy wouldn’t allow him to stand still.

“I tried to contact Aquitar, but the signals, with the Command Center/Power Chamber only being partially up and running, are not getting through. That means that contacting Ardaxia is absolutely out of the question.
However, the coordinates to Ardaxia have been fed into the onboard computer, and the autopilot is set. Once you get out of Earth‘s atmosphere, you‘ll be able to simply press the auto button, and be on your way.”

Together, the seven stood in a circle and clasped hands for a moment.

“Go Rangers!” They grinned, and Zack laughed as he did a small dance.

“I’ve missed saying that!” He exclaimed, and the others grinned.

“We know what you mean,” Adam nodded, and a moment later, seven colors; red, yellow, black, pink, white, gold, and purple streaked into the various waiting ships.

“Okay, gang,” Tommy said, as they all put on their communication headsets, and was amazed at how easily he slipped back into ‘Power Ranger Leader‘ mode. “I’ll take the lead. Kimberly, Jason, you flank me. Rocky, Aisha, and Adam, you’re behind Kim and Jas. Zack, you’re bringing up the rear. It’s up to you to keep us informed of anything that may sneak up on us.”

“But Tommy,” Kimberly broke in confused. “All the bad guys’ve been defeated. Who’s going to try and attack?”

“Remember,“ Tommy said. “We’ve been out of things for a while, and are basically flying blind. And, although it’s almost unthinkable, it is entirely possible that there is some kind of evil that is just too evil to change, even for Zordon‘s energy. Also, even though we . . . I mean, the Zeo Rangers, defeated King Mondo, we’ll still be going right past where the Machine Skybase was. Even though Zordon’s sacrifice changed some of the evil creatures we battled to good, that might not mean much, especially for the Mechs. After all, they were created from parts, not people with hearts who could be changed or spells that can be turned to dust once said spell gets broken.”

“I hadn’t thought about that,“ Aisha admitted, and Adam sighed.

“I hadn’t wanted to think about it. Especially since they almost killed Billy when he tried to get back to us last time he visited Aquitar.“

“You mentioned that before,” Zack frowned. “And I think that’s a story you need to tell. Remember, I’ve been out of the loop for a while.”

“We’ll tell you when we get out there. It‘ll help pass the time,“ Rocky said, and Jason nodded.

“Yeah. For now, let’s just get going. The longer we talk, the longer Billy’s in that jerk’s clutches,“ Jason said.

“I agree,” Adam said quietly, and for a moment their grim silence was louder, and said more, than any shouted words ever could.

“All right then, gang,“ Tommy broke the silence. “Let’s do this!”

“Right!” Kimberly said, and she was echoed by the others as they gripped their controls.

Alpha went to a control panel, keyed in a short sequence of buttons, and with open mouths, seven very surprised Rangers watched as the side of the mountain opened.
