Chapter 14

Christy was sitting at her house a few days later. She looked at the clock and went to get ready. Her lamaze class was due to be starting in about three hours and sometimes it took her that long to get ready and arrive there. She quickly laid out her clothes and then went to take a shower.

At Lucy's house Paulie was sitting in the front room talking to his dad. " Pop's. Do you really think Whitney had something to do with Christy's wreak that day?"

Paul thought long and hard on how to answer this. "Well son. You have to look at it from our point of view. Now let us lay all the facts out on the table. One, she never seemed concerned at all that Christy could have been severely injured and along with that note your child also. Two, she was madder than a wet hen whenever she found out that she wasn't going to be having your child. Three, the day she was arrested she said and I quote.. I see she is still living. Four, She was more clingy to you then ever once we started hunting for Christy. Look at it from that angle son. What would you think? I am saying that based on the facts I do believe she wanted Christy dead but I can not say for sure until the courts find her guilty."

Paulie nodded his head and watched Lucy come out with pillows. "You about ready to go hon?" She took a look at Paul and then over to Paulie. "Paulie. You know I still love you no matter what decisions you have made in the past few months. You are more than welcome to tag along tonight but I do not want any smart mouthing from you if you come."

Paulie not having anything better to do nodded. "Where are we going?"

Lucy smiled. "To Christy's Lamaze Class. She has them once a week now."

Paulie nodded and they all walked out the door and got into his father's SUV.

Lucy got out at Christy's house and knocked on the door. She opened it and smiled and then turned to get her jacket.

"Christy. I know we didn't clear this with you first and well he was over at the house and I kind of invited him to come along tonight so that he could see what was going to happen. I made him promise not to be a smart ass and well I understand if you hate me and Paul."

Christy put her jacket on. "I take it we are talking about Paulie here."

Lucy nodded. "Well it is right. He is the father and if she is found guilty I am hoping that he takes a more active part in the baby's life and the delivery. So now with that said let us go. But first." She went into the nursery and got a small piece of paper. And the two of them walked out the door.

As they approached the truck, Paulie got out and opened Christy's door for her. "You are looking well."

She smiled. "You are looking well yourself but unlike me you are not caring around a motor in your stomach."

After they got situated and started driving she smiled and reach the paper to him. He took it and turned it left and right and then she smiled. "That is one of the first pictures of our child. I was meaning to give it to you but it kept slipping my mind."

Paulie looked down and felt the tears pricking his eyes. "Thanks Christy. It means a lot to me."

She nodded and got out of the truck and went inside to her lamaze class while Paul and Paulie sat outside and had a long father and son talk.

The next day Christy's phone rang. "Chris honey. It is Pop's. Tomorrow is her court date and they want to try to do it all in one day. I have asked Paulie to sit with me and Lucy and not with you. We really don't need a big uproar at the courthouse. Jamie is going to come and get you in the morning so try to get some sleep." They talked for a few more minutes and then hang up the phone.

Jamie arrived bright and early the next morning and at nine a.m. they were sitting in the courtroom waiting on the judge. Christy watching Whitney trying to get Paulie's attention out of the corner of her eye, had to keep from laughing out loud. Soon the judge arrived and the hearing began.

"Your honor. I would like to call Christy Jenkins to the stand."

Christy walked up and swore in under oath and then the questioning began.

"Could you state your name please?"

"Christy Constantine Jenkins."

"Miss Jenkins. How do you know the person on trial here?"

"I know her from the business named Orange County Choppers."

"I see. Could you also state to us what the person has been doing?"

Christy closed her eyes and took a breath. " Every since I have arrived here and she found out that I was pregnant I have been receiving threatening phone calls and letters from her."

"I see. Now Miss Jenkins. Why would she have done that? You mean no threat to her."

Christy looked up at Paul and he nodded. "Because at the time of conception of my child, the father was her ex- boyfriend. But she didn't think they had broken up and she got upset because she wasn't the one having the child."

The lawyer nodded. "No further questions your honor."

Christy looked over at Jamie and then looked up at Whitney's lawyer as he stood in front of her. "Miss Jenkins. Could you tell the court who the father of your child is."

Christy looked at the judge. "Mam. Please answer the question."

She took a deep breath. "Paul Teutul Jr."

The lawyer nodded. "And you say at the time you slept with him and conceived that he was separated from my client."

Christy nodded. "He stated in front of at least ten workers at the shop that him and her were currently broken up. So at that time by his words I believed them to be."

" I see. So you and Mr. Teutul were not dating."

"No sir."

"But yet you slept with him and conceived a child. Could you tell the courts how why you did that?"

Christy's lawyer stood up. "Objection your honor. The way my client conceived and why is not on trial here. I do not see what this line of questioning has to do with the case."

The judge looked at the lawyer. "Substanded. Mr. Connor. Please stick to the questioning that pertains to the case."

The lawyer nodded. " So Miss Jenkins's. You have stated to the courts that my client made threatening phone calls to you?"

"Yes. Sir."

"Well then how can you prove that?"

Christy rolled her eyes. "I have Caller ID. And phone records stating the calls came from her house."

"But you say the phone calls never started until you started sleeping with her ex boyfriend."

"Objection. Your honor."

The judge looked at the lawyer. "Mr. Connor. If I have to tell you again. You will be banned from this trial."

"No further questions your honor."

The man looked at Christy. "You may step down honey."

Christy walked down to her seat and sat down. "Mr. Miller. Do you have any other witnesses."

He nodded. "Your honor I would like to call Steven Cline to the stand."

Everyone watched as a young man walked into the court room and took the stand.

"Could you state your name?"

"Steven Cline Sir."

"Mr. Cline. Do you know that woman over there."

"Yes sir. I do."

"Could you tell us how you know her?"

"Yes sir. She contacted me through person to person contact and offered me twenty five thousand dollars to hit that woman over the with my truck."

"And you agreed?"

"At first no sir. No amount of money is worth a persons life."

"But your truck did hit Miss Jenkins."

"Yes sir. I agreed only after she threatened my wife, unborn child and my two year old son. Her exact words were it would be pity if I came home and found my family dead. I did it out of fear for my family. That is why I timed it the way I did and prayed that Miss Jenkins would survive the wreak. I am willing to serve time for what I did to that young lady over there."

Mr. Miller smiled. "Thank you Mr. Cline. I have no further questions."

The judge smiled. "I will allow the jury to take a short recess. Mr. Connor due to the statements I have already heard there is no reason to place your client on the stand."

Mr. Connor nodded and everyone stood as the jury and judge walked out.

Christy started to fidget in her chair and Mr. Miller looked at her. "Are you ok Christy?"

She nodded. "The baby is just really active."

They then both looked up as Steven stood in front of them. "Miss. Jenkins. I do apologize for what I did. I am just happy that nothing happened to you or the child. I was scared for my family is all. But as I stated I am fully ready to accept whatever I have coming to me for my part in all of this."

Christy nodded. "I understand Mr. Cline. Family is the most important thing. Did she already give you money?"

He nodded. "Half of it and I placed it in for my children's collage fund." He turned and walked away as the judge and jury returned into the courtroom. Once everyone had seated the judge turned to the left.

"Have you reach a verdict?"

One juror stood up. "We have your honor. We find the defendant Whitney McGuire guilty as charged."

The judge nodded. "Miss McGuire. Let it be on record that you are found guilty of attempted first degree murder in two counts. One on Miss Jenkins and one on the unborn child. Your sentencing will be twenty five years with no chance of parole. Take her away."

The judge waited until they had handcuffed her and then watched as she looked at Paulie. He turned his head away from her and stayed that way until the door shut. It was only then he met Christy's eyes and smiled. The judge then spoke again. "Mr. Cline. "

Christy stood up. "Your honor if I may?"

The judge nodded. "I would not like to press charges against him. He was acting in fear for his children and wife. He could have killed me but he choose to act in a way that I would possibly survive with no harm to either of us. Please your honor. Have mercy on him."

The judge stared at her wide eyed. "Christy, He tried to kill you."

"Not kill your honor. Hurt. If you feel that he must be punished for protecting his family then send him to work for Mr. Teutul at the shop. Do not put him away for acting on his fear. I am sure that any parent faced with the decisions he did from her would have done the same."

The judge nodded. "Well then Mr. Cline. It seems you have an angel watching over you. I will do as Christy states and hereby order you to report to the shop tomorrow morning. Mr. Teutul will let you know the time and you will continue to work there until he deems you have served the proper time. Court is adjourned."

Christy nodded to Paul and Steven. Steven got the information from Paul and went home to his family. Paulie looked at her. "Christy why?"

Christy looked at him. "Put yourself in his shoes Paulie. What would you do if she threatened your child?" And with that she walked out the door.
