Chapter 11
Dean awoke the next morning, spooning Sam, thinking everything was a dream. When he heard soft movement from the other side of the bed, he knew it wasn’t. A dopy grin broke across his lips as he slowly ran his hand over Sam’s slightly distended stomach. He still wished Sam had told him before he had discovered him in labor, but there wasn’t anything he could do about it now. Now, now he was just happy that he had Sam in his arms again, and that they had two beautiful little girls. Dean was brought out of musings when Sam began to shift in his arms, turning around to look at Dean. His hand went down to join Dean’s on his stomach. He marveled at how small it was now.
“Morning sexy,” Dean whispered as he bent down to kiss Sam. As he drew back, Sam lifted an eyebrow in a teasing manner.
“Sexy?” he whispered back. “You can’t be talking about the guy who just pushed two babies out and still looks like he swallowed a cantaloupe.” He jibbed.
Dean leant in, lips brushing Sam’s as he spoke, “That’s exactly who I’m talking about,” he answered before pressing his lips to Sam’s.
They broke apart, giggling quietly as the girls voiced to their parents that they were awake.
“The first of many interrupted moments,” Sam grinned.
“I’m excited. How ‘bout you?” Dean answered.
“Defiantly.” Sam answered back. He tried to sit up by himself, before quickly realizing that it was pretty much impossible. His body still hated him for pushing out previously stated babies. “Could you help me up? I need to pee, then feed the girls. As of right now, can’t do either by myself.” Sam blushed.
Dean helped Sam up without question. He slowly guided Sam to the bathroom, where he had him sit on the toilet, making Sam blush even worse, but knowing that Sam didn’t have the strength to stand. When he was done, Dean helped Sam back to bed, helping him sit against the headboard so he could feed the girls. When that was done, Dean stepped over to the girls’ makeshift crib and grabbed Mary. He brought her back over to Sam, placed her in Sam’s arms, watching as Sam began feeding their little girl. Dean was positive that he’d never get sick of the sight. When Mary was done, Dean put her back in her crib and repeated the process with Jessica. When the girls where finished eating, they happily went back to sleep.
Dean watched Sam close his eyes, leaning his head back. He was already exhausted. “Alright my one and only, after you eat, we need to talk.” Sam gave a barely noticeable nod opening his eyes.
Dean trasped through the kitchen, making himself a nice bowl of lucky charms, while he made Sam a couple pieces of toast and an extremely large glass of water. He figured Sam wouldn’t be able to handle anything else. Dean carried everything on a tray back into their room where Sam hadn’t moved at all. Sam cracked an eye open as he felt the bed dip. He lifted his head as Dean settled the tray between them, eyeing the contents.
“Toast? That’s all you brought me?” Sam teased.
“And water,” Dean replied as he picked it up for Sam to examine. “What? Do you want something else?” Dean inquired, looking doubtful.
“God no. Toast is perfect.” Sam attempted to reach over to retrieve the toast as proof, but his body protested the movement loudly, making him groan and sit back.
Dean shook his head and handed Sam the elusive toast. Sam smiled in thanks and began slowly eating his much wanted toast. Dean handed Sam the water when he was done, making sure he drank it all. Sam wanted to glower at him, but didn’t because he knew Dean was right. When everything had been eaten, Dean took the tray back to the kitchen, returning in record time. He maneuvered Sam so he was laying down again, before taking his place next to him.
“What did you want to talk about Dean?” Sam knew it wasn’t anything bad, but was still dreading the conversation and didn’t know why.
“We need to go shopping Sammy.” Dean stated. Ah. Now he knew why he was dreading it. “We need more supplies for the girls. I saw that you already have a couple bags of diapers, wipes and a little bit of clothing, but it’s obvious you weren’t expecting two babies. We need a bigger crib. More diapers, wipes and clothing.” Sam groaned inwardly.
“Agreed, but I don’t think I’ll be up and moving around for a good week or so without help. You can go get those things by yourself if need be, but I’d prefer to be with you when we bought the girls clothes.”
“Absolutely Sammy! I’ll wait until you’re up and moving around on your own to go get the girls more clothes, but the rest of I can get on my own. Although, I think we need a stroller.”
Sam shook his head in disagreement. “No stroller. Backpacks. It’s what my mom did for me. Takes up less space too.”
Dean looked dumb founded. “Backpacks? They have those for babies?” Giggles racked Sam’s body at Dean’s question. It caused his stomach to cramp, but he couldn’t help it. He nodded in between gasped intakes of breath. Dean glared at him, but there was no heat behind it. Dean knew how to get him back.
“You need to call Cassie still.” Sam stopped giggling instantly.
“Oh shit.”
“Yeah, oh shit. I’ll go get the phone.” If looks could kill, Dean would be very, very dead. He came back and handed Sam the phone, number already dialed. All Sam could do was put the phone to his ear and wait for her to answer.
“Sam? Sam! What’s going on? Is everything okay?” Sam pulled the phone away from his ear as Cassie blew out his eardrum.
Taking a deep breath, Sam placed the phone back against his ear before he spoke. “ThereasonI’vebeensodistantlatelyisbecause I waspregnantwithDean’sbabies.”
Dean stared at Sam wide eyed. ‘I’ll be impressed if she can decode that.’ He thought.
“Huh.” Was her answer.
“Huh? That’s your answer? Huh?” Sam was stunned.
‘So she did decipher that. I’m impressed.’
“Yeah. Huh. So, when do I get to see them?” Sam took the phone away from his face and stared at it.
“You don’t think I’m a freak?” Sam saw the hurt cross Dean’s face, but couldn’t help but ask.
“Of course not you moron! You’re my best friend! I accept all oddities that come with you!” Cassie stated proudly. “So, boys or girls?”
“Girls.”
“Names?”
“Mary and Jessica.”
“Do you have enough diapers? How ‘bout formula?”
“Sort of. Not using it. Don’t ask. Explain later.”
“Huh. Okay. I’ll be over tomorrow with more diapers and to meet my new nieces.” Cassie hung up before Sam could answer. He laid the phone on the bed, staring at it, but not really seeing it.
“Sam, what’s going on?” worry tinged Dean’s voice.
“Cassie’s okay with it. She coming over tomorrow with more diapers and to meet the girls.” Sam reported robotically.
“Isn’t that a good thing?”
Sam nodded.
“Then what’s the problem?”
“There isn’t one. She’s okay with it. I’m just surprised it was that easy.” Sam was trying to figure out how to get Dean back for the phone call, even if it had turned out really well. An evil grin captured Sam’s lips as he looked over to Dean. Dean visibly recoiled from the look, fearing what was to come.
“Don’t forget, you still have to call your parents.”
Dean paled.
