Chapter 13
By LKraemer
Christian hung up in a daze.
His thoughts began to run wildly in his tired mind. “Was this a dream? Was Julia really coming over?”
Sighing, he sat on the edge of the bed for a few minutes with his head in his hands.
Sliding off the bed in a confused state, Christian ran his hands through his head and began to pace in the bedroom.
The obvious that stuck out in his mind was the threesome with Kimber and Sean, he decided, scratching his head vigorously.
“This is bulls***,” he muttered under his breath, shaking his head.
Meanwhile, Julia got into her car trembling, nervously placing her purse on the passenger seat.
She breathed a deep sigh, hesitating, her hands gripping onto the steering wheel.
She leaned forward to flick on the radio, pausing in her tracks as she listened to the lyrics of the song, “Secret,” by the 80s group, OMD.
I’ve got a secret I can’t explain
And all the time I’ve waited for this day
All along I was never in doubt
I always knew it would never get out
There are things that I cannot tell
And there are things that you know damn well
This is getting very hard for me
I guess you’d better just wait and see
This is all this is all
Secret
Julia blinked, tears coming to her sore eyes as she started the engine right away to head over to Christian’s condo.
You heard a message and the message was clear
And all the time you wipe away that tear
All I want is to hold your hand
To see the sun and walk the sand
You make me sad and you make me glad
And now you see all my secret is this love
Is love, is love
All my secret is this love
Christian trudged to the bathroom, suddenly realizing it was not a dream. “Shit!” he cursed, realizing that there would be no time for a shit, shower and shave before Julia arrived on his doorstep.
He stretched and yawned, deciding he’d just comb his hair. Looking in the mirror, he quickly ran the comb through his hair.
As Julia pulled up to Christian’s condo, the ending of the song played out …….
Everyday you’re always there
You comfort me and make me feel it’s worth my while
And then I look around and you’re not there
And everyday you say you care and I’ll beware
Secret
This is all, this is all
I’ve got a secret and I can’t explain
All I want is to hold your hand
All along I was never in doubt
To see the sun and to walk the sand
In haste, Julia flicked the radio off, grabbing her purse before she got out of the car, quietly closing the door behind her.
She arrived at his door, timidly knocking.
Christian, startled by the knock even though he was expecting Julia, dropped his comb right away.
He lingered cautiously down the hall pausing at the door resting his head against it briefly. His heart was beating fast.
He partially opened the door, leaning in the frame with his arms crossed over his chest, a few buttons of his shirt, unbuttoned.
“May I come in, Christian?” Julia asked in a soft tone as her eyes darted to the floor.
“Sure,” he replied with a stare, a serious tone in his voice, he opened the door further so she could walk on by.
He cautiously followed her to the living area where she sat down warily on his couch.
Avoiding eye contact, she tucked her skirt to sit down then nervously looked for a place to put her purse.
Christian’s hands began to sweat in his pockets where he leaned back against the wall, sheepishly looking at the floor.
Her timid actions made him more nervous by the minute.
Julia began to ramble on about troubles at the spa, stresses, lack of sleep and in his tired, day-dreamy like state, his mind quickly shifted to anticipation of meeting Miss Diva again. He began to fantasize what she would be wearing when he would meet her and what her home would be like, more specifically her bedroom. But as his mind continued in his deep thoughts, Sean’s words also echoed about solving the problem with Miss Diva at the time.
Julia noticed that he appeared withdrawn from the conversation and quipped, “Snap out of it, Christian! I need your complete undivided attention!” she snapped impatiently, making distinct eye contact with him finally.
Christian cleared his throat nervously and as he looked up he said in a dry, but curious tone, “What is it, Julia? What have you come to talk about?”
“Christian, I… I….” she stammered on her words, suddenly bursting out into tears…..
“I …miscarried the baby…” her voice trailed off, biting her lip as she leaned forward clutching her stomach.
In shock, Christian’s mouth dropped open as he folded his arms tightly across his chest.
“When?!” he asked in a dead-pan voice.
“Not long after I saw you, Sean and Kimber together in the office, Christian. I guess I went into complete shock, I don’t know....” her voice trailed off as she tucked a strand of her hair behind her one ear.
“Have you told Sean yet?!” Christian snapped, leaning forward.
She then got up and moved across the floor, folding her arms across her chest too and stood right in front of Christian.
“NO! I guess I needed TIME, Christian,” she retaliated, her eyes narrowing with anger as she stared at him.
“And how MUCH time was that?!’ he sneered.
Julia suddenly paused, her face scrunched up, remarking, “Oh, God, Christian you reek of perfume and sex!” When are you ever going to grow up and quit your old habits?!” she retorted with sarcasm as she put her hand to her nose.
“I am not the issue here, Julia” he reminded her matter-of-fact tone as he leaned back against the wall. “And for that matter, WHY do you always come to me first before Sean?!” he demanded.
“I came here to confide in you, Christian…….Don’t you have ONE compassionate bone left in your body, Christian!?” she snorted.
Christian’s temper escalated with her comment, growling “WHEN are you going to tell Sean, Julia?!” he hollered.
Julia suddenly pounded her fists against his chest, “WHY do you have to be such an ass****, Christian?!” she screamed in a fit of rage then, turned snatching her purse and marched out in a huff to her car.
She jumped in the car and quickly started the engine.
Christian could hear the song, “Sorry” by Madonna blaring from Julia’s radio as he stood in the doorway, watching Julia drive off, squealing the tires.
The lyrics echoed in his ears until she was far away that the tune faded.
I’ve heard it all before
I’ve heard it all before
I’ve heard it all before
I don’t wanna hear, I don’t wanna know
Please don’t say you’re sorry
I ‘ve heard it all before
And I can take care of myself
I don’t wanna hear, I don’t wanna know
Please don’t say ‘forgive me’
I’ve seen it all before
And I can’t take it anymore……
