Chapter 13
"So Boss, just what did you have in mind?" Steve asked, lowering his 6'5" frame onto a kitchen chair and motioning for Boss to join him.
Swallowing hard as he looked into the other man's cold brown eyes, Boss began to have second thoughts.
"Well, what did you have in mind to get Bo away from that idiot sheriff?" Steve snapped after waiting for Boss to begin.
The moment Steve reminded him of his purpose, Boss shook off his second thoughts and began to explain. "Well now, as I said I saw the way you were looking at that Duke boy, which is what gave me the idea. You know Rosco is not only my sheriff, he's my brother-in-law and I worry about him. I don't believe that Bo Duke is the ri..."
"Cut the bull, you think I don't know that Rosco ain't helping you anymore? If you ain't gonna tell me the truth, I don't think we got anything to talk about." Steve snarled at the fat man as he began to rise to his feet.
"Alright, alright, no need to get all worked up," Boss tried to placate the other man. JD sighed in relief when Steve sat back in his chair, and waited. "The truth is, as long as Rosco is involved with a Duke he ain't gonna help me none. Now you want Bo Duke for yourself and I want Rosco back where he belongs...working for me, and I have an idea to make that happen. I know Rosco pretty good and the way I've got it figured is; if he thinks the Duke boy is cheating on him he'll end the relationship. As soon as that happens we both get what we want, you get the boy and Rosco will work for me again. All you have to do is seduce Bo Duke into your bed and I'll make sure Rosco catches the two of ya together," Boss explained with glee.
"That sounds good, but how am I supposed to get Bo alone?" Steve asked, beginning to like this idea and relieved he'd missed his shot.
"Why that's easy my boy, you just tell him that you saw Rosco in trouble up at the old Perkins place. When you see him headed there, call me and I'll wait an hour before letting Rosco know that there's a problem up there. He walks in, catches the two of you together and both our problems are solved."
Running a hand through his long red hair, Steve thought about the plan. As plans went, it wasn't a bad one and if Bo didn't want to cooperate, well he could deal with that too. Giving Boss a chilling smile, Steve held out a hand, "Deal." Shaking hands in agreement, they set about working out the details of their plan.
A week after revealing their relationship to the people of Hazzard, Bo and Rosco were relieved to find most people accepting of it. There were, of course, some who were completely against them, and surprisingly, some who thought they made a great couple. So far, those who were against the relationship hadn't done anything except talk, not counting that one shot. When the phone at the Duke farm rang, Bo reluctantly answered it, wondering what nastiness he would hear now. The words he heard nearly made his heart stop as he sucked in a deep breath, terrified for his lover.
"Listen, I don't think you should be doing what you're doing but I don't want to see anybody hurt."
"Look mister, I ain't got time for this. If you got something to say, just say it," Bo snapped, thoroughly tired of these calls.
"Alright, your boyfriend is in a fix up at the old Perkins place. I seen a couple of guys up there with him and they don't look like they want to talk."
For several seconds Bo stood holding the phone to his ear, not realizing that the other man had hung up. When he let go the breath he was holding, Bo slammed down the phone and ran outside to jump into Jesse's pick-up. "Uncle Jesse, I got to go take care of something, can I take the truck?" Bo asked, as he put the key into the ignititon.
"Yeah, but what's wrong...Bo! Dang that boy, run off, don't say where or what's going on. Keep him safe Lord," Jesse prayed quietly glancing upward, worried by the way Bo had raced out of the yard.
As he raced down the road Bo couldn't help wishing he'd had the General. *Dang it, why did Luke have to choose today to go to Capital City? Please be okay Rosco, please God don't let me lose him.* Bo prayed as he drove. Stopping the truck at the end of the drive, Bo got out and quietly shut the door. Sneaking towards the house, he wasn't sure if the silence was a good sign or not. Moving carefully up to the front door, Bo peeked in the window a few feet from the door. Seeing nothing, he began to open the door, wincing at the squeak of the old door. Pausing, he waited to see if the sound would bring anybody running. When nobody appeared, he pushed the door further open and crept inside the old house.
"Hello Bo."
Jumping at the unexpected voice, Bo whirled around, surprised to see Steve Olsen standing there. "Steve, what's going on? Somebody called and said...you're the one who called ain't ya?"
"Yeah I am. I'm sorry I lied to you Bo, but I couldn't think of any other way to get you up here."
"So Rosco's okay?" Bo asked, desperately needing to be sure that his lover was in no danger.
"Yep, he wasn't ever even here," Steve told him.
"I'm leaving," Bo said, not liking the way the other man was looking at him. As he headed for the door, Steve grabbed his arm, holding him back.
"Bo please, just hear me out," Steve asked in a deceptively soft voice.
"Alright Steve, why did you trick me into coming up here?"
"Could we sit down first?" Steve asked, leading the way into the old parlor, smiling when Bo reluctantly followed him.
Sitting down on the sofa, the only piece of furniture left in the room, Bo moved as far from Steve as he could. "Okay, we're sitting down, now answer the question."
"Bo I knew about you and Gary. I knew how he treated you too and I hated it. But I wasn't sure you'd listen to me, so I didn't do anything. Then Gary died in that wreck and you were hurt, I tried to approach you a couple of times. I don't know if I was too subtle or you were just too traumitized by Gary, all I knew was you didn't respond and I decided to leave Hazzard. A few months ago, my uncle died and I came back to Hazzard figuring on selling his place. Once I was here though, I saw you and I knew that I still had feelings for you. I didn't know if there was a chance, but I decided that I owed it to myself to stay and find out."
"That's real nice Steve and I'm flattered, but I love Rosco and I ain't planning to leave him," Bo explained.
As Bo started to stand up, Steve placed one hand on his arm. "Bo how many men have you been with?"
"What business is that of yours?"
"That's what I thought, Rosco and Gary, right? You ain't got to answer, I can see the answer on your face. Bo how can you be sure that you really love Rosco, I mean maybe it's because he's safe."
"What the hell are you talking about?" Bo demanded, getting angry at the things Steve was saying.
"Oh come on Bo, he's a lot older than you and I don't know anybody that would consider Rosco threatening. After the way Gary treated you, maybe you just needed somebody you knew wouldn't be able to hurt you."
"Sombody like you, ya mean?"
"I don't want to hurt you Bo, I love you," Steve whispered as he leaned forward, trying to claim Bo's lips in a kiss. When Bo moved away, Steve tightened his grip on the younger man's arm. "I said I don't want to hurt you Bo, but that doesn't mean I won't. I was there for you after Gary died, you owe me a chance," Steve snarled, pushing Bo back into the corner of the sofa.
"Owe you? I didn't ask you to be around after Gary died, for that matter if you love me, why didn't you stop him?" Bo demanded, pushing Steve away and jumping to his feet.
"I explained that Bo. I didn't think you'd listen, besides Gary promised..."
"Gary promised what?"
"He promised I could have you when he got tired of ya," Steve explained. "And you ain't gonna cheat me out of what I was promised," he snapped, grabbing Bo and throwing him against the wall.
"You jerk! Who do you think you are? Gary had no right to make a promise like that and you...you got no right to expect anything. I'm leaving and if you're smart, you'll leave me alone," Bo yelled, shoving his way free and heading for the door.
Tackling Bo to the floor, Steve used his body to keep Bo pinned to the floor. "You shouldn't have done that Bo. I would've much rather done like Hogg suggested and seduce you, but I'm sure by the time I'm done Rosco won't want ya anyway. You'll have no choice but to be with me and Hogg gets his sheriff back in his pocket," Steve growled into Bo's ear. Reaching under the body beneath him, Steve tried to unfasten Bo's belt.
At first Bo couldn't move, shocked by Steve's words. However, when he felt the hand on his belt, he came to life with a vengenance. Bucking upward he threw Steve off and jumped to his feet, fists raised and prepared to fight.
As Steve came towards him, Bo threw a punch at the other man's face. Ducking under the punch, Steve caught Bo in the gut with an uppercut, knocking the breath from him. Stumbling back, Bo was unprepared for the haymaker Steve threw at the side of his head. When the punch hit him, Bo fell to the floor. Steve was on him before he had a chance to move. Straddling the younger man, Steve delivered several punches to Bo's head and chest. Stunned, Bo lay on the floor, trying desperately to catch his breath. Knowing he had to fight, Bo forced himself to ignore the pain and threw the other man off of him, again.
"Give it up Bo, you ain't gonna win. Make it easy on yourself," Steve taunted.
"You're crazy! You can't really think I'm just gonna let you rape me!" Bo yelled, refusing to let Steve see his fear.
"I don't think you'll have a choice Bo. I'm gonna win and then I'll take what I want, so why fight it, sweetheart?" Steve asked, a smirk spread across his face.
Hearing that name coming from this man, Bo saw red. "Don't you ever call me that!" He yelled, rushing the other man and throwing several wild punches in his anger.
"Damn kid, that hurt. I should've just went ahead and killed you after all, too bad I missed," Steve hissed out.
"That was your first mistake," Bo told him, delivering another round of punches. Bo was so intent on hitting Steve that he never saw the other man reaching for the knife on Bo's belt.

The phone in the sheriff's office rang, Rosco answered it, hoping it wouldn't be another call about him and Bo. Ever since they'd revealed their relationship a week ago, both men had been subjected to calls from people who disapproved. Most of them said nothing worse than telling them they would burn in hell for what they were doing. A few though were threatening, those were the ones that he worried about the most and most hated to deal with. "Hazzard County Sheriff's office, Rosco P. Coltrane."
"Hello Sheriff I'd like to report a vagrant up at the old Perkins place."
"A vagrant ya say?"
"Yes sir," the woman on the phone answered. "I wouldn't bother you, but I don't like the way this man looks at all. I would feel so much safer if you or one of your deputies could make him move on."
"Yes ma'am, now if you could just give me a description of the man?" Rosco asked, picking up a pencil and preparing to take down the information. After getting the description of the vagrant, Rosco called Enos and told him where he was headed.
Fifteen minutes later, Rosco was pulling into the drive of the Perkins place, surpised to see Jesse Dukes' pick-up. Not sure why the truck would be there, Rosco called Enos again and told him to come over to the old house. As he slowly drove up the drive, Rosco kept a careful eye out for either this so-called vagrant or Bo. Becoming more concerned when he reached the top of the drive without seeing anybody, Rosco climbed out of the patrol car. As he got out of the car, Rosco's concern turned to genuine worry at the sounds of a fight from inside the house. Creeping towards the front door, Rosco stopped just outside the door to draw his gun. Stepping inside, he made his way towards the sounds of the fight. Coming around the corner, Rosco was just in time to see Steve Olsen flip Bo onto his back, knocking him unconscious. Seeing the knife in the other man's hand, Rosco felt his blood run cold, "Freeze!"
Turning towards the sheriff, Steve gave the older man a grin of triumph and evil. "If I can't have him, neither can you," he calmly stated, plunging the knife towards Bo's chest.
Rosco saw the knife heading for his lover's chest and fired. The force of the bullet threw Steve backwards. Keeping his gun ready just in case, Rosco moved towards his lover. As he looked down at the unconscious young man, covered in blood, Rosco felt himself beginning to shake.
A few minutes later, Enos ran into the house, he was shocked to find the sheriff holding a bloody Bo Duke in his arms, tears running down his cheeks. "Sheriff? Is he...?" Enos tried to ask, afraid to hear the answer.
"Enos? Help me Enos...I can't lose him," Rosco begged, a lost, desperate look on his face.
"I'll, ca...call a ambulance," Enos told him, before running outside to his patrol car. Grabbing a blanket from the trunk, Enos hurried back inside and draped it over Bo. Moving to check on the other man, he was surprised again when he saw who it was. Reaching out, he felt a weak pulse beneath his fingers. Looking at the sheriff, Enos decided it might be best to keep that to himself for now. "Ambulance is on it's way Sheriff," Enos told the older man as he took off his uniform shirt and applied pressure to the hole in Steve's side. As he sat there, listening to the sheriff begging Bo not to die, Enos did the only thing he could think of...pray.
