ch 13
Sara paced the house until the doorbell rang. She was excited and nervous both at the anticipation of meeting her daughter. Jim Brass stood in the doorway with a child that was about ten. She had curly brown hair and the gap in her teeth.
Sara was speechless. The young girl looked at her.
“Sara, this is mini Sara.” Jim laughed.
“Who are you?” The child asked.
“I’m Sara. What’s your name?”
“My name is Amy. Are you my new foster family?”
“If you want us to be.” That would be wonderful…
“I’m sick of the group home.” The young girl admitted.
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault.”
“Actually it may be my fault.”
“Why?”
“You are how old?” Sara asked.
“Ten.”
“Well ten years ago, you were my baby.”
“What?”
“I had you when I was in college. I’m so sorry. I was alone; I couldn’t do it by myself. They assured me you went to some place nice. If I’d a known I would have never given you up, I would have done it.”
“I was happy until Dad died.”
“I’m so sorry.”
“I would like to stay here, if you will let me.”
“Sure thing. Did they tell you I am having a baby?”
“No, you are?”
“Yes.”
“Wow.”
Sam cried.
“There is a baby already?”
“Yes, it is a long story. That is Grissom’s daughter, you are my daughter and this is our baby.” Sara rubbed her belly.
“I’m so excited, I will have siblings.”
“Yes.”
Sara held out her arms and the child fell into her embrace.
“I’m so sorry, sweetie.”
“It’s ok, Sara.”
“Please call me mom.”
“Alright mom.”
Sara smiled.
