Chapter thirteen
AN: Ok my friend made up the name for the frat house DDK= Dartmouth Delta Kappers. What do you think? I was wondering considering it wasn't me, who came up with the name, I'm a bit worried about that.
A different beginning
The Fraternity. DDK. 13
Brian and Justin's fathers had been in a fraternity when they attended Dartmouth. It was the Dartmouth Delta Kappers house. They had seen the rings their father’s always wore on their right index fingers. The ring was a plain golden band like a wedding band, with the letters engraved on the front of the ring DDK. And the tattoos, Brian thought they were cool. There was a tattoo of the American unijack with the letters DDK in black capitals across the flag. Their fathers had that same tattoo on their right shoulders. Their fathers had explained that the ring and tattoo on their right shoulders represented their fraternity, that every member was given a ring and had the tattoo placed on their right arm.
Brian found out his uncle Marty and Justin's uncle James were also members of the DDK fraternity, as were their grandfathers. It was a family tradition that had been apart of Brian's and Justin's family since their grandfathers. It was like a chain link; Justin’s grandfather Stuart Taylor had first met Brian’s grandfather Jack Kinney in the fraternity in 1952. They had become the best of friends, and then when they each had a son Craig Taylor and Daniel Kinney those boys were introduced to each other and they two became best friends. They were also placed in the DDK house at eighteen, in 1974. And finally they obviously had sons Justin Taylor and Brian Kinney who have also been placed in the DDK house in the year 1998.
Ben and Ted were in the same house. Brian and Justin were sharing a room in the large house, Ben and Ted would be sharing the room next door to them. They received their membership rings with the other new members of the house from the head member of the DDK house, the first weekend in the house. They would be taken to the tattoo parlor off campus that same weekend with the other new members. Ted had been nervous about getting his required tattoo, but he had gone through with it and was in the end glad he had gone through with it. It had hurt like a bitch but to Brian, Justin, Ben and Ted, it had been more then worth it, seeing as they were now official members of the Dartmouth Delta Kappers fraternity.
And much to their surprise the head of the house was gay. Plus thirty of its fifty members were either gay or bi sexual. They were the only house on campus that was not against homosexuals and bi sexual's entering the fraternity, as most fraternities on the campus frowned at two guys fucking. One of the main rules in the house was that if you were homophobic in any way you would be kicked out of the house and be stripped of your membership to the Dartmouth Delta Kappers.
Brian and Ben had joined the Dartmouth Soccer team. Justin and Brian had both signed up for an arts and graphics, business and marketing and advertising classes they both needed to take. In short their majors were business, Marketing, advertising and graphics. Ben had signed up for business studies and other lectures that would lead to him getting his teaching degree, as he wanted to be a professor. Ted on the other hand was taking chemistry and physics. Once he finished Dartmouth he would be heading to John Hopkins for another four years to get his medical degree. Ted wanted to be a doctor. His father is an accountant, but he wanted to help people who were ill, not deal with their bloody taxes and savings.
It was a month into the first semester and just under three months left before they all returned home for Christmas and New Year. It was a Friday night at nine thirty when Melanie called Brian on his cell phone. Brian had hung up just as a few of the house members had past the open door of his and Justin's bed room. Stephen keegan and Dean Stanford had teased Brian good naturedly. "So Kinney who were you just professing your love to?" Dean jokingly asked. Brian smirked and replied "my girl friend Melanie actually."
Stephen took in the photos on Brian's side of the room and then on Justin's side of the room. Each teen had pictures of friends and family on the walls. He spotted a photo that was on Justin's side of the room, and a copy of the same photo was Brian's side of the room as well. It was the one of the pictures Melanie's father had taken of the four of them on prom night. Brian and Justin were standing behind Melanie and Lindsay with their arms wrapped lovingly around their waists with the side of their faces resting against their dates. They all had wide smiles on their faces I they looked straight a head at the camera.
Dean had noticed the pictures of the whole gang on prom night and another one them in their uniforms and a picture each of Brian and Melanie on prom night and another one similar of Justin and Lindsay. Stephen asked "so who are the extreme hoties you two have your arms wrapped around?" Justin and Brian grinned at each other, Justin told him "the blond girl in my arms is Lindsay Peterson my girl friend since we were seventeen and my friend since we were fourteen." Brian added "and the gorgeous brunet is my girl friend Melanie Marcus, who has been my girl friend since we were seventeen and my friend since we were fourteen."
Stephen asked "so where are your hot girl friends now?" Justin answered Lindsay is back home in Pittsburg, where is attending the PIFA which stands for the Pittsburg institution of fine arts. I was originally meant to attend there as well but got accepted he at the last minute." Brian added "and Melanie is currently attending Harvard, to get her law degree."
Dean asked "so who are all the people in the photos you two have got on your walls? Ben and Ted I recognize in a few of the photos." Justin went first "well, as you can see both me and Brian have got pictures that are the same. In this picture here" he pointed to the left hand side of the wall. "Is the entire gang me, Brian, Ben and Ted went to school with since we were fourteen. This photo was taken by one of the cheerleaders from our school.
In the back from left to right is me, Brian, Ben, Michael Novontony, and Emmett Honeycutt. And the people in the front each wrapped in a set of arms from left to right are, Lindsay Peterson, Melanie Marcus, Paige Matthews she is Ben's girl friend since they were fifteen. Next to her wrapped in Michael's arms is Daphne Chander's, she has been Michael's girl friend since they were fifteen. And finally there is Ted, who is wrapped in the arms of his boy friend Emmett since they were fifteen.
And as you can see the other photo has got the same people in, only difference is that were are in our school uniform we wore to st James academy. It's a private school in Pittsburg. And this photo here is of my mum and Dad Jennifer and Craig, and my baby sister Molly who turned four in July." Brian added "and obviously the pictures of prom night and the school photos are copies of the ones Justin's got over their. This photo here is of my mum and dad Joan and Daniel, and my baby sister Cara who also turned four in September."
Stephen turned to Justin and asked "what exactly do you mean when you say you were going to attend that art school where you’re from?" Brian and Justin shared an uneasy look, both Stephen and Dean immediately caught onto the uneasiness instantly. "Ok. It's obvious he has mentioned something that has meaning to the both of you, and by the looks of it, it hasn't got pleasant meaning has it?"
Brian answered "no it isn't myself and all those people in that photo, witnessed the whole reason Justin never attended the art school his girl friend currently attends. On the night of our prom back in late May, just as we were leaving the hotel the dance had been held at. Chris Hobbs a foot ball jock came up behind Justin and bashed him in the head with a base ball bat. This in return landed him in a coma in intensive care for two weeks. Then after that he went through two weeks of intense therapy, and another two months of counseling before we even came here."
Stephen and Dean looked horrified. Dean choked "holy shit you mean Justin is the same Justin Taylor that got bashed at his prom. Shit it was all over the news and in the papers all over America. We live in New York that's how we'd heard about it before you even told us. I don't think there is a guy in this house who lives in New York, Pennsylvania and America who doesn't know what happened to you. Of course I doubt any of the others realise it's actually you. Shit Justin I truly am sorry, no one at all should have to endure nightmare shit like that."
Stephen looked at Brian with Sympathy and commented "that means you Ben and Ted saw the whole thing happen didn't you?" Brian nodded and replied "yeah we saw it all right, neither of us can forget we honestly all wish we could." Justin added " I don't remember a thing after the last song at the prom ended, I don't remember entering that garage or anything after that either. I honestly wish my friends didn't have to witness that, or actually remember it for the rest of their lives."
Brian added "me and Lindsay were covered in Justin's blood when the ambulance arrived ten minutes later. I Melanie and Lindsay didn't leave the hospital once with in the two week period Justin was in that coma. I remember the sickening crunching noise we all heard when the bat connected with the side of Justin's head. I just wish I could have stopped him in time. At least I busted that mother fucker’s knee cap with his own bat, and in the process ended his soccer career. Plus it also prevented him from escaping. I hadn't cried since I was eight years old, I cried more that night and with in that two week time period then I had in eleven years."
Justin's eyes nearly bugged out of his head "you mean to tell me neither you Lindsay or Melanie left that hospital the whole two weeks I was in that coma." Brian simply nodded. Justin was stunned, he knew his friends loved him and cared about him but he had no idea it was to that extent. And the fact both his best friend and girl friend were covered in his blood made Justin feel sick to his stomach.
