Chapter 12

Sofia and Catherine were huddled over around Catherine’s locker.

“It’s beautiful.”

Sara eyes zeroed in Sofia’s left hand. A diamond in a simple modern setting. Sofia was engaged. She and Matthew were getting married. Matthew Grissom had been in town all of three months and he had done what Grissom would never be able to do. How could two men who seemed so alike on the face of it be so different at the core? Blue eyes and brilliance aside, Matthew Grissom had not allowed the demons of their family to consume him and scare him.

Catherine heard the sorrow in Sara’s voice.

“Congratulations, Sofia, I am very happy for you.”

Sara was surprised when Catherine took hold of her hand. “Sofia and the ring?”

Sara didn’t give any answer.

“I thought things were going well with you and Vartan.”

Sara blinked trying to keep the tears at bay.

“I just want to be over him, Cath.”

The sobs caused Sara’s body to convulse and Catherine’s heart to contract.

Catherine was at a loss for words. She loved Gil. She loved him like him like her own flesh and blood, but he didn’t seem to be capable of any meaningful romantic relationships. She knew that Sara had worked hard to move on with Hank and now with Vartan. Working with Gil just would not allow it. How could it? How did you get over someone when you saw them almost every day? The answer was that you couldn’t.

Sara hiccupped. Embarrassed at her mini breakdown she attempted to regain some dignity.

The tears continued to roll down her sculpted cheeks
