“Bud, could you put these in the cooler for me?”
“Sure Harm, I’ll wrap them so the box won’t get wet.”
“Thanks Bud.”
Harm makes his way to the back of the bus.
“It’s about time, Sailor,” Mac says as Harm takes his seat in the back, next to his fiancée, “I was about to send out S & R.”
“Miss me, did ya?”
“What did you get me?”
“They’re for later.”
“Mmm.”
“Let’s get this show on the road driver,” says Harm’s mother.
The bus starts up and they are on their way to the airport. An hour later Harm went up to the front of the bus while Mac slept against the window.
“How are you guys back there,” asks Frank.
“Mac is out. I covered her up. Listen, since I really wanted to take Mac on the yacht, can we make that our Honeymoon trip?”
“I’ll check when we get home. I’m sure I can try to arrange something.”
“Oh, I am so glad my baby is going to get married, finally.”
“Well, I was going to do it first for Valentine’s Day but she beat me to it.”
“Oh Harm, if I had known I might have waited before helping her.”
“It’s ok mom. I’m still going to do something on Valentine’s Day. But, I’m not going to invite an army of friends and family to this event.”
“But Harm, you are still going to call me with the details. I insist.”
“Trish, leave the boy alone, he wants it to be private,” says Frank.
“I’ll see what I can do about getting video of the event,” says Harm.
“That’s my boy. He knows what his mama likes,” Trish states with a smile a mile wide.
Harm goes back to his seat and Mac rolls back over to lean her head on Harm’s left shoulder, her sleep still undisturbed. He smiles and nods off himself. The traffic is bad on the way back to the airport. Frank makes some calls on his cell phone, and arranges to have cots put up in the back of the plane, because at this point, they might be getting back to Small Airstrip at eleven pm.

“Harm, I think we ought to stop and stretch a little,” says Trish Burnett.
“Yeah mom. We need more food and a good stretch,” says Mac waking up from Harm’s shoulder.
“I’ll go let the driver know to get off at Avenida Pico.”
“But mom, we can’t stay long with the traffic.”
“Harm, don’t worry. Frank has taken care of it. I did some research and there’s a Albertson’s, Carl’s Jr., etc out here, so I’m sure we can stock up.” Mac smiles.
All of a sudden a male burst of laughter comes from the front. Bobbi and Sturgis are having a thumb war and Sturgis wins. Bud and Harriet, Commander Manetti, A. J. and Tiner are well into a game of poker. Frank plays travel battle ship with Chloe. Her Grammy is napping with Little A. J. Meredith and Trish had been chitchatting about nothing in particular. The bus pulls off the road at Avenida Pico and turns to the left. It pulls into the huge parking lot at Wal*Mart. As soon as the driver puts it in park, Mac’s up and grabbing her sweatshirt from the seat. She gets out her wallet from the overhead compartment and heads off to the Albertson’s with Harriet at her tail. Harm goes off to IHOP and gets a couple of things to go. The rest of the gang stretches and goes to use the facilities at one place or another. They had all given up on using the toilet when they ran out of air freshener. Twenty minutes later, both Harriet and Mac look like they have been contestants on some supermarket shopping spree game show. They both had a cart of food. Mac and Harriet had agreed that one cart is for Mac and Harriet’s cart is for the rest of the bus.
Sturgis and A. J. bring out the cooler and open the drain plug to drain out the cold water. Harm pulls out his strawberries, and Harriet takes the new ice, and refills the cooler. Harm safely tucks away his strawberries and h Mac Mac onto the bus.
“Uh Mac, I got something for us that is warm in the back of the bus. Since you didn’t get anything frozen, this stuff can wait.”
“Sure Flyboy. What did you get me?”
“Chocolate chip pancakes,” says Harm, flashing his killer smile.
“Ooh. You’re right, this stuff can wait.”
Mac slides into the seat near the window, and puts her table down. Harm places a Styrofoam box on her table and then serves himself up. Mac takes a sip of something cold.
“Did you get me fresh squeezed orange juice?”
“Nothing but the best for my Ninja Girl.”
“Damn straight,” Mac says before pouring syrup all over her pancakes.
Harm laughs and the bus starts up. They get back on the freeway, and the traffic lightens up a little until they get to Oceanside, and it backs up again. Harm gets up and goes to see Chloe.
“Hey Harm.”
“Hey Chloe, are you staying at Mac’s tonight?”
“Yeah, why?”
“Well, I have a mission for you.”
“Sure, what is it?”
“Could you make sure that her bed is cleaned off, and every boat, coconut, lei, and grass skirt is put into a big trash bag? Then I want you to hide it best you can.”
“Okay why?”
“No questions. If you can do it, there’s a bottle of Martinelli’s Sparkling Cider and $100 in it for you,” Harm whispers in her ear.
“I’m yours Harm. I choose to accept the mission and you can count on me.”
“I knew I could squirt and don’t tell Mac anything. This is top secret. Here’s my cell. Call me when you’re done. Ring once.”
“Okay. My lips are sealed.”
They shake on it and Harm leaves.
“So what were you doing to corrupt my little sister,” Mac asks when he gets back to his seat.
“Nothing, I just made her an offer she couldn’t refuse.”
“What kind of offer?”
“Can’t say. She said to tell you its classified.”
“You can’t do that to me. You know, I’ll find out.”
“You can try, but if she blabs, she doesn’t get the prize.”
“I was talking about you.”
“You can try your best Marine, but this Squid ain’t talking.”
“You know some Marines eat Squid for dinner,” Mac says rubbing his groin.
“Red light Mac. Oh god.”
San Diego Airport
San Diego
7:00pm.
The bus pulls up to the 747 four hours late. The troops unload the bus and get on the plane. Harm says good-bye to his parents with a promise to call as soon as he has taken a nap at home. Mac gives them a hug and thanks. The crew has put the partition back up. Everyone sits in the front of the plane until they are in the air. Harm is a little agitated because he wants to be alone with Mac and she can sense it.
“Just hang in there baby, they’ll be gone soon,” Mac whispers in his ear, Harm looks down at her.
[How does she know what I’m thinking?] Harm thinks, contemplating another facet of his fiancée.
Soon they level off and one of the crew makes an announcement that in the back they have cots set up for anyone that wanted to rest. One by one they all go into the back and grab a cot. Then Mac stretches out and puts her head on Harm’s lap.
“Not you too Mac,” Harm says, frustrated because he had to wait so long.
“It’s going to be late when we get back. We’ve had a long day. You should try sleeping too.”
“But you promised once they were gone.”
“I didn’t promise anything. I was just waiting for them to leave so I could fall asleep on you,” Mac says standing up, “Now come on Flyboy, lay down.”
Harm does as ordered stretching out on the cream colored sofa, it is very comfortable, stuffed just right. Mac climbs up on top of him and snuggles into his right side, close to the top of the sofa. She rests her head on his right shoulder.
“Like this better?”
“Oh yeah. I like this idea better,” says Harm.
“Sleep sweet Harm.”
“You too Mac.”
Small Airstrip
Somewhere in Va. or Wash D. C.
10:00pm
The plane is about to land and the crew wakes Mac and Harm before heading into the back to get everyone up. Soon they all start filing back in.
“Did you two rest? You’re in the same spot we left you in,” asks Sturgis.
“Yes, very well, and thanks,” says Mac.
“Are we all going to be ok to drive home,” asks Bud.
“I think we are,” says Manetti, who will be glad to get rid of Tiner for once.
The plane lands and taxies to the gate where they had started their adventure. The troops unpacked the plane rather slowly, even though they had all slept on the way home. Harm and Mac had to figure and refigure how to get everything they bought home safely. A. J. and Meredith were the first to leave, in separate cars. Sturgis takes Bobbi home to her place. He stays a little longer for a nightcap and heads home about midnight. Lt. Commander Manetti takes off like Mario Andretti in her car. Tiner follows, but not as fast. Chloe gets Mac’s keys from Harm and Grammy drives over to Mac’s to accomplish her mission and sleep. They have a flight back home in the afternoon the next day. Bud helps Harriet by putting their bags into the van, while she straps in Little A. J. into his car seat. Harriet then decides to drive them home. Bud climbs into the passenger seat and straps himself in.
“Mac, Harm, are you sure you don’t need any help?”
“I think we’ve got it Bud,” says Harm.
Then the Roberts’ leave and Harm and Mac are all alone with everything out on the ground.
“Ok I will pack the back and then you can handle the back seat Squid.”
“Fine by me Marine. Just get a move on before we get ambushed out here.”
“Well leave it to a Squid and we’d only have enough room to ride home on your lap, and since it’s your baby, I thought you might want it to get home in one piece.”
Mac expertly packed all the large items, all but one, and even a couple of the small ones in the trunk.
“See, leave it to a Marine and the car is almost packed,” Mac proudly brags.
“Really, and just how do you plan on getting the Pooh bear home?”
“On my lap of course,” says Mac, smiling.
“Okay, and I’ll get the rest of everything into the back seat. Since he’s riding in your lap, you won’t mind riding with the top down do you?”
“No, I don’t mind, but it is freezing out.”
“I can warm you up when we get back to my place,” he says with his killer smile.
“No, flyboy. You’re taking me home.”
“But Mac, it would be better to have you sleep over and I could take you home in the morning.”
“It’s my last night with Chloe. I have to take them to Dulles tomorrow.”
“Oh all right. I’ll help you unload when we get to your place.”
On the chilly drive home, Harm’s cell phone rings once and he smiles brightly while Mac tries to stay awake in the cold.

Harm pulls up and shuts off the engine.
“I’m sure Chloe’s out by now. I’ll pull my stuff out of the back if you want to hold him.”
“Can I help?”
“Got it covered,” Mac says as she pops the trunk open and starts to unpack her stuff.
Harm gets her stuff from the back seat, waits until she has her luggage, and then follows her to her door.
“Good night Harm,” Mac says.
“Good night Mac,” Harm says and gives her a sweet kiss, as if to mark how good the night had been.
Suddenly, Chloe opens the door.
“There you two are. We were beginning to worry. Harriet’s called twice.”
“What are you doing up young lady,” asks Mac.
“Grandma made hot chocolate and we were waiting up for you. Grandma just went to bed, she said I could sleep with you, since I was still up.”
“Well, I think this is my cue to hit the road,” says Harm.
“Can you come see me and Grandma off tomorrow?”
“Sure. Mac, call me with the details when you get up.”
“I will.”
“Night Harm.”
“Night Chloe.”
“Sleep sweet Harm,” Mac says.
“You too.”
Mac turns to Chloe and they bring in the luggage outside the apartment. Chloe brings in the huge Pooh bear last.
“Where do you want this Mac?”
“Bedroom. Then bring the rest of the luggage in. I’ll just unpack it all in there.”
“After you Mac.”
Mac and Chloe pile the bed up with luggage.
“I think we better leave this until later,” says Mac looking at the pile.
“Yeah it’s late and we’ll have time for this later. I’m climbing in.”
“Night Chloe.”
“Night Mac. Oh, may I just say that you are positively glowing. To be completely honest, you never looked like that while you were with Mic. I know you tried to look it, but this is genuine Mac. I am proud of you.”
