Chapter Ten

“Coach Teague,” Chloe called out as she ran up to him with her video camera, “Hey.”

“Hey,” he said looking at her and he seemed a little frazzled.

“I’m doing a story in the Torch on Dan Cormay,” she said getting right to the point, “And I was wondering if I could talk to you?”

“Can it wait,” he asked because he really was not in the mood, “I’m in the middle of practice right now.”

“It’ll only be a couple seconds,” she said keeping up with his longer strides.

“I’ll do it later,” he said really trying to get away.

She narrowed her eyes to deep blue slits, “Okay?”

“I will,” he promised because he did not like the way those eyes were looking at him.

“Okay,” she said with a bright smile because she got her way and turned away from him as he went over to the cooler to get a drink.

Mandy looked at her little blond friend and then at him, “I hope you have someone special in your life Coach Teague.”

“That’s really none of your business,” he said filling up his cup, “Mandy.”

She watched him take a sip and then a look of wonder came over his face, “But, yeah, I do have somebody.”

“Hey,” he yelled in anger at the team, “You idiots need to give your quarterback some protection if you want to win!”

“Hey, Clark,” Chloe said walking over to him, “Can I talk to you?”

“Not a good time,” Clark snapped because he was pissed at the team for being such ass holes to him and ran back out onto the field.

“Okay,” she said with a look, “What the hell is his problem?”

“That’s a good question,” a voice said from right beside her and it made her jump.

“Lex,” she turned around to look at him, “Why are you here?”

“I donated the new uniforms,” he said watching Clark with sad gray eyes, “I wanted to see if they were being put to good use.”

“Oh,” Chloe said and turned around and took a cup so she could get a drink of the Powerade.

She took a drink and then heard Clark shout, “Blue 23! Blue 23!”

“Clark,” she whispered with a soft smile as she watched him race around looking all golden and perfect.

Lex just sighed and leaned back against the table to watch what could have been. There must be some way he could fix this. There is always a way. He was a Luthor! He always got whatever the fuck he wanted and right now he wanted Clark’s love back.

“Hello,” Chloe said to Lois as she walked into the Torch closing the door behind her, “I’m going to need you to run with that psycho quarterback story.”

“Hi,” Lois said even though she was not in the mood to care about some damn quarterback, “Still trying to get out of this cow dropping, Chloe.”

“That’s fine,” Chloe smiled, “Do whatever you want. You’re in charge now because I quit the Torch.”

“Wait,” Lois said spinning around to watch her cousin dance happily around the room taking things down off the wall, “You quit? Why?”

“Because I finally know now why Clark and I never worked out,” she said smiling like a Stepford wife and it was really freaking Lois out.

“Okay,” Lois said trying to hide how seriously freaked out she was right now, “Why?”

“I am always too busy for him,” she said putting the papers onto her desk, “I was here working on this waste of time that nobody really gives two shits about.”

Lois looked around the room wondering where the hell her real cousin was and who the hell this psycho in front of her was.

“I simply wasn’t devoted enough to him,” Chloe giggled and it made Lois shiver, “But that’s going to change, Lois.”

“Would you please stop with all this crazy talk,” Lois begged, “You can’t quit. I need the credits and how many times are you going to let him break your heart?”

“You want to know what’s crazy,” Chloe asked turning around to look at her with hurt written all over her pretty face, “I actually thought you’d be happy for me. Now that Lana and Clark are simply a thing of the past, I might actually have a shot with him.”

She walked up to Lois and got right in her face making Lois almost gulp when she asked in an icy voice, “Why are you getting in my way?”

“Fine,” Lois said backing away from the crazy lady and picked up her stuff, “Look, I’ll go cover the pompom squad.”

“Thank you,” Chloe said even though she was actually wondering where a sharp object was.

88888888888888888888888888

Lois was seriously freaked out right now. What in the hell was wrong with her cousin? This freaky new obsession with Green Eyes was not natural.

“Seriously, Mandy,” an annoying nasal tone said, “The 24 hour mourning period is over. You like seriously need a new boyfriend to like totally take to our pool party.”

“This is too easy,” Lois said to herself and listened in and rolled her eyes, “Why the hell do they talk like that? Maybe I‘ll kick ones ass just to let off some steam.”

“I’m so not taking a step down from Dan, Rhonda” Mandy said getting pissed now.

“Clark Kent’s the new quarterback,” she said while fixing her lips, “He’s kind of hot.”

Mandy snorted, “I’ll look into it.”

Rhonda noticed that Lois was listening in and poked Mandy as she walked over.

“Mandy, right? I’m Lois Lane,” she said getting to the point with the bimbo while having some fun, “I’m like so totally doing this article for like the Torch and I was wondering if you would like totally explain to me what like happened to your toy…I mean your boy…friend.”

“She doesn’t want to talk about it,” Rhonda hissed at the taller girl while seriously thinking that her pompom uniform was going to protect her from Lois beating the shit out of her.

“I really don’t want to write this article because seriously,” Lois said, “The guy obviously went psycho and you’re all just lucky he didn’t try and shoot your “brains” out.”

“Like I said,” Rhonda hissed, “She doesn’t want to talk about, freak.”

Lois took a step forward and looked down her breasts at her, “I think Mandy can talk for herself, bee sting.”

She looked right at Mandy, “My cousin needs me to do this for her and I really need the extra credit, so, any words about your psycho love toy…or do I need to simply make it up?”

“I wouldn’t give that geek a quote if it were the last paper on the planet,” Mandy said.

“Wow,” Lois said clapping her hands, “Did you actually come up with that all by yourself…well done.”

Mandy narrowed her eyes which made Lois’s grin get even bigger. She was just itching for a fight because she was pissed as hell. She was stuck here in Podunk because that stupid college would not let her in because she failed some stupid classes. Lois really wished the dumb bitch would take a swing.

All of a sudden some of the football players walked up and Lois rolled her eye, “Looks like your toys are here, except, you don’t have one anymore. Do you Mandy? Did he take a look at your yahoo? Is that why he went psycho?”

Mandy didn’t know what to think. This bitch was seriously looking for a fight.

“I can have another boyfriend,” Mandy said snapping her fingers for everyone to see, “Like that.”

“Not with those nails and those bags under your eyes sweetheart,” Lois said.

A folder hit the floor and Rhonda reached down to get it only to cringe when Lois’s spiky heeled foot stomped on it with a delicious click.

She looked down at it to see that it read “The Love Molecule.”

“Advanced Chemistry,” Lois asked with a snort, “How many cheerleaders does it take to draw a double helix?”

“You really want a quote,” Mandy asked looking up at her.

“You mean you actually have the balls to give me one,” Lois asked in surprise and then her eyes frosted, “I eat bitches like you for breakfast.”

Mandy took a step back, “Bite me, bitch.”

Lois smiled, “Mandy, you’re a genius.”

“What,” She and Rhonda asked at the same time while the boys held their belongings.

“You just gave me the title for my article,” Lois said with a big ass grin, “Thank you so much.”

“By the way,” she said throwing the folder at Mandy, “You have lipstick between your teeth and the color does not compliment your skin tone.”

She turned on her heel and stalked past the people who really though the new girl was going to kick some cheerleader ass but the insulting was more fun. Mandy just stood there fuming and screamed at the guys, “Get me a god damn mirror!”

Clark got home late that night and he was so tired. He was not physically tired but emotionally. He just wanted to curl up someplace warm and sleep. That was when he looked up to see Chloe sitting on his sofa with nothing but his jersey on.

“Chloe,” he asked taking a look around, “Why are you here so late?”

She patted the spot next to her playfully and he took off his backpack to sit down on the opposite end. What the hell was going on? He was too tired for this.

“So,” she said looking at him with a sparkle in her blue eyes, “Do you remember that conversation we had this morning?”

He turned his head to look at her, “Yes.”

“I decided to quit the Torch,” she said getting up on her knees to move closer to him, “I have no reason to be there if you’re not going to be there with me.”

“Okay,” he said getting really nervous because she was really close and acting really strange, “Why are you only wearing my football jersey?”

“I would do anything for you,” she said getting back up on her knees again with a playful smile on her face.

He narrowed his eyes and she giggled, “Things to help relieve your stress.”

She put a soft hand on his chest and he looked at her really confused now, “Like what?”

Her hand slowly moved down his chest, “Chloe,” he asked and it only moved lower, “Chloe!”

He quickly grabbed her hand and began to pet it, “Are you feeling alright?”

“I’ve never felt happier,” she laughed and quickly straddled his lap, “Clark.”

She put her hands on his shoulders and he had his hands up because he was afraid to touch her.

“Don’t you see,” she asked, “I’m in love with you, Clark. I would do anything for you.”

He didn’t know what to say. She was his best friend. What was she talking about? That was when he remembered the journal entry and suddenly she was kissing him. What should he do? He didn’t know. This was weird. Chloe would never do something like this. Something was wrong.

The next day Lana was walking down the hall with a note in her hand.

“Hey,” she called when she spotted Jason and went to him, “Is everything okay?”

“Yeah,” he said walking up to try and kiss her, “It is now.”

“What are you doing,” she hissed and put her arms up looking around.

“Kissing my girl,” he laughed.

“No, I was talking more in the big picture sense,” she said still looking around and then held up the note, “The lady from the attendance office announced to my advanced literature class that Coach Teague needed to see me.”

He moved to pet her hair and she brushed his hand away looking behind her and said, “I don’t want you to take this the wrong way but this sudden spontaneous outburst is a little strange, even for you.”

“Hmm,” he said because he was completely lost in her eyes.

“You have sacrificed a lot to be with me,” she said getting more upset, “But I will not cost you your job.”

“Who cares about my job,” he asked wanting to kiss her hand, “I only want to make you happy, Lana.”

“I know,” she said as he touched her cheek and she looked around before taking his hands, “And I love that, but we should really talk about this later.”

“Okay,” he said smiling like an idiot, “Come by practice after school.”

She smiled, “All right.”

88888888888888888888888888888888

Clark was getting thirsty and thanked god that Coach Teague was finally giving them a break. He moved to follow the other guys when he caught sight of Lindsey sitting with Lana on one of the benches. He walked over to them because he had not seen either of them for awhile.

“Hey,” he said running up, “When did you two meet?”

“Hey, Clark,” Lindsey said looking up at him, “We have advanced literature together. The principal let me add an extra class.”

“Oh,” he said smiling, “Why are you all here?”

“I heard you were the new quarterback,” Lana said, “And I just had to see you play.”

“Really,” Clark asked with bright eyes burning into hers and then at Lindsey.

“I’m here to see my friend practice,” Lindsey said with crystal clear violet eyes that seemed to shimmer.

“Hey, Kent,” Jason shouted and he was pissed that he was talking to Lana, “You want to join us or what?”

“I got to go,” Clark said with a frown.

“Looks like our new assistant coach is working you pretty hard,” Lana said.

“No,” Clark grinned, “He’s really cool.”

Jason was drinking more of the Powerade and he was getting more and more pissed.

Lindsey frowned from below Lana, “He looks mad.”

Clark turned to look, “I better go.”

“See you,” Lana said.

“Bye, Clark,” Lindsey said watching the coach curiously.

“Bye,” Clark said and almost fell over Lois when he turned around.

“What the hell did you do to my cousin, Green Eyes,” she hissed in anger, “She’s really freaking me the hell out.”

“Nothing,” Clark said in confusion, “She’s the one kissing me.”

“You must of done something or said something to get her all worked up,” Lois snarled.

“I have a game coming up,” Clark said getting upset, “Oh, and Lois?”

“Yeah,” she asked.

“I’m gay.”

“Hey,” Chloe called out as she came running up to the both of them wearing a cheerleading uniform, “Hey, Clark!”

“Holy shit,” Lois said looking at Clark and then at Chloe, “Holy shit, what the hell are you wearing?”

“Hi,” she said only looking at him.

“You’re a cheerleader,” Clark said and was loving Lois’s reaction.

“I found it in the storage locker,” she said bouncing around on her heels, “What better way to support my new staring quarterback than to join the cheerleading squad? This way we can be together all the time.”

“Holy shit,” Lois gasped again.

Chloe’s eyes turned to poison as she hissed, “What’s she doing here?”

He looked at Lois who was speechless and then jumped when Jason yelled, “Hey, Kent! Get over here!”

“Good luck,” Chloe squealed and ran to join the cheerleaders, “Bye!”

“Holy shit,” Lois said again.

“I need you to keep her away from me,” he said.

“Holy shit,” she said and then snapped, “With what?”

“Something’s wrong,” he said, “And I need time to figure it out.”

“Figure it out,” she asked, “You?”

“Just do it,” he snarled showing teeth which made her slightly jump, “Please?”

“Okay,” she said throwing up her hands and walked away.

She was in shock. She was in fucking shock. Clark just told her that he was gay and Chloe was a fucking cheerleader. The world was going mad. How in the world was Clark gay? He didn’t have any memories. So, how the hell does he know he’s gay. Did Jesus come back? Did she not get the memo? She always got the memo? She was the one wearing the damn earpiece.

“I will not maim,” she chanted and got some weird looks from some students that passed by, “I will not maim.”

88888888888888888888888

He had told Lois he way gay out of anger. He was terrified now. What if she turned against him? What if she told his parents? He was not going to yell. He was not going to break something.

He quickly fixed himself a drink and took a sip of the green liquid. All of a sudden a sharp pain shot through his system and he doubled over in pain. He felt like he was on fire. Meteor rock?

“Kent,” Jason roared, “What’s wrong with you?”

“I don’t feel so good,” he gasped holding his stomach and feeling like he would fall at any second, “I think I better leave.”

“Are you a baby,” Jason asked with scorn, “Are you just going to walk away?”

Clark was finding it difficult to breathe and Jason snarled, “Maybe I was wrong about you.”

“Coach,” Clark tried only to double over again to lean on the table.

“Your teams waiting for you,” Jason said feeling really good that Clark was ill, “Are you a leader or not?”

Clark fumbled and put his helmet on. He stumbled out onto the field on very unsteady feet. Jason smiled evilly as he watched him go and stopped a random player.

“Tell the guys that they got the green light on Kent.”

“Coach,” the player asked.

“I’ve been too easy on him,” Jason smiled and turned to look at him, “Do it.”

Number 89 nodded, “This is going to be fun.”

Jason took another sip of Clark’s poison.

88888888888888888888888888888888888

Lindsey was watching Clark get pummeled like there was no tomorrow. His team mates were not guarding him and some that were suppose to be were knocking him flat on his back each time the ball was tossed to him. He hissed when Clark was struck from both sides and went down hard.

“God,” Lana said, “That had to hurt.”

“Yes,” Lindsey agreed and a smile broke out across his beautiful face when Clark got back up, “But he never gives up.”

Lana turned to look at him. He really was as beautiful as Chloe said he was. She even noticed that she was not the only girl looking at him. His violet eyes smiled at her and she felt the small of her back sting a little.

“Are you alright,” he asked when he heard her hiss and move to scratch her back.

“Sweat bee,” she lied.

He nodded and turned to see three guys tackle Clark to the ground hard. The three of them got up and gave each other high fives. Clark was not moving.

He got to his feet and his voice rang out even over the cheerleaders, “Stop!”

Lana and those near him jumped because he was so loud and he was running towards Clark who was stirring slightly. Chloe was the only one cheering because she was lost in her own little world.

“Hey,” Jason snapped jumping in his way, “I call the shots on this field pretty boy.”

Glowing violet eyes narrowed as he looked at the smaller man, “Remember who you serve, boy.”

Jason was lying flat on his back momentarily stunned at just what happened. What the hell did just happen? He looked up to see that damn pretty boy helping Clark off the field who was limping pretty badly.

“What happened Coach,” Brad asked in concern, “You just went down.”

“What,” he asked.

“You were just standing,” he said, “And then you were just flat on your back.”

He turned to see Lana looking at him with worry but he knew she could not come to him. She looked over at Clark and went to help.

That Kent was going to pay! What the hell just happened?

888888888888888888888888888888888888888888

Clark was sitting in his loft later that day in a lot of pain. Lois was keeping Chloe away from him and he could only imagine what a nightmare that must be. So far she did not say anything about him being gay and whatnot. He was thankful for that but he knew he was going to get an earful later. He gently put the icepack on his bruised ribcage and sighed. He had gotten the crap beat out of him today and he didn’t know why. What did he do to deserve this? It wasn’t his fault Dan had gone psycho and shot at the Coach. What was up with the cheerleaders and the cooler?

Lindsey had been so nice to him. He had been too weak to eve get up on his own. It was Lindsey who had helped him off the field and it was Lois who drove him home with Chloe fussing over him the whole way. Lois literally had to use the child safety locks to keep Chloe in the car.

His head snapped up when he heard footsteps and sighed in annoyance, “I don’t feel good right now, Chloe.”

He slowly got up and limped to the railing to see that it was the Coach, “Hi.”

“We really need to talk, Clark,” Jason said from under his hood. Why was he wearing a hood?

“Look,” Clark said knowing that their was meteor rock in the drinks, “I think there’s something in the cooler.”

“You should have stayed away from my girl,” Jason said getting closer to him.

“What,” Clark asked only to get punched in the ribs causing him to bend over crying out in pain.

Jason then struck him the back causing him to fall forward into a bunch of stuff to lay there dazed and in pain. He was then pulled up by his shirt collar and slugged across the face three times before he was lifted to his feet to be thrown against the railing.

Clark’s lip was busted and it really hurt. Why was this happening? What did he do?

He turned around to face Jason only to be slugged across the face again. He spun around and broke through the railing to ground below with a loud thud.

Jason walked to the edge to see that Clark was laying below curling up into the fetal position. That boy was going to pay!

Clark slowly felt his lip and saw the blood. He cringed because sweat was getting into his cut above his brow making it sting. His ribs were killing him. His face really hurt.

He turned over to see Jason looking down at him with pure hate in his eyes and Clark braced himself for the kicks that didn’t come.

Jason felt someone grab him from behind and he cried out when his head struck the metal pole in the wall. He shook his head and took off running.

Clark saw that it was Lex and nearly passed out from the pain he was in, “Lex?”

“Clark,” Lex cried in concern while racing to his side to see that he was bruised and cut, “Are you okay? Who was that?”

Blood was trickling down into his eyes and Lex moved to help him sit up so he could see if anything was broken. Who the duck dared to do this to his farm boy? If only he saw the bastards face. He would have him killed in a matter of hours. Bad Lex! Clark wont like that and knowing how Scooby like Clark is, he would find out in no time.

“Are you sure you don’t want to call the police,” Lex asked for the third time that night.

“I didn’t see his face,” Clark said as Lex turned his back to get a rag. Something green then dripped from Clark’s nose.

All of a sudden he started to feel better as he looked at the small green splash on the ground. He opened his shirt to see the bruises begin to fade only leaving perfect golden skin to be seen. He quickly closed his shirt when Lex turned back around to suddenly stop and stare.

“That’s odd,” Lex said looking at him.

“What?”

“I could’ve sworn there was a cut above your left eye,” he said blinking.

“I’m feeling a little better,” Clark said putting his foot over the green drop.

“I still think you should call a doctor,” Lex said as Clark to got up to walk around him.

“I’m lucky you were here,” Clark said feeling the sadness hit him and it hurt worse than the bruises and the cuts did, “Why are you here?”

Lex heard the tremble in Clark’s voice and closed his eyes, “I wanted to give you something.”

Clark turned around and Lex tossed him a big folder, “It’s every file I ever had on you.”

Clark caught it and looked down at it in sorrow. Why Lex?

“How do I know you don’t have more?”

“You don’t,” Lex said honestly, “But it’s the truth.”

“If our relationship was so important, why did you lie to me for so long,” Clark asked remembering his journal. Lex thought he had his memories back.

“Why wasn’t I enough for you?”

“I don’t know,” Lex said while freezing the tears, “There’s a darkness in me that I cant keep under control all the time. I’m starting to think that’s my curse why every relationship I have ends badly.”

“We all have a dark side,” Clark said holding the file tightly to his chest as if it were a shield against the pain.

“Yeah,” Lex whispered in sadness, “But I can feel mine creeping over the edges Clark. Your love helps keep it at bay. I don’t want to lose you.”

Clark had to turn around and he was thankful that he did because a tear fell from a burning emerald orb.

“Goodnight, Clark,” Lex whispered and made his way down the stairs.

Clark turned back around to watch him leave while holding the folder tight. He would take a look at it later. He would talk to Lex later. Right now he needed to calm down so he could get to the school and find Lois. They needed to figure out what was going on. Why did Jason attack him? Who was this girl he kept talking about? What was up with Chloe? Why was there meteor rock in the Powerade…where was his jacket?
