Chapter Ten

Chloe was sitting at a table in the Talon just typing away on her laptop when she looked up to see Lana walk over and sit down across from her. She quickly saved her article about Vampires in Smallville and closed the top down.

Lana let out a slow breath that reminded Chloe of peppermints as she said, “I’m sorry Chloe.”

Chloe showed every pearly white in her head, “Me to Lana.”

“School starts tomorrow,” Lana mentioned in order to strike up a normal conversation as she handed Chloe her third cup of coffee that evening.

“Yeah,” Chloe said taking it with a smile and her fingers slightly brushed Lana’s, “Hoped the meteor freaks will sleep this school year in.”

Lana felt the light contact and pretended not to notice, “If only,” she said, “I just feel off.”

“Really,” Chloe asked in concern, “Like how?”

“Like something really bad is,” she started only for Chloe to see Lana’s olive green eyes go wide and she turned around to what it was she was looking at.

Her eyes almost popped out of her head when she saw Clark walk in with Ronan by his side. She tore her gaze away to see that Lana had stopped breathing altogether.

She poked Lana who suddenly took a deep breath that sounded more like a hiss, “Who is Clark’s friend,” she asked as she watched them take a seat in a secluded corner.

“That,” Chloe said, “Is Ronan.”

“Ronan,” Lana hissed and Chloe arched a brow at the venom she poured into his name.

“I think he’s renting the loft in the Kent’s barn until they move,” Chloe told her.

“He’s what,” Lana shrieked getting glances from other customers and she took Chloe’s hand whispering, “He’s what?”

Chloe fought not to run away, “I think he’s renting Clark’s loft.”

“I bet that’s not all he’s renting,” Lana hissed really making Chloe want to run for the hills.

Lana got to her feet and snapped her teeth at the girl who had won at rocks, paper, scissors, with another girl to take Clark and Ronan’s order. The girl paled and backed away as Lana smiled beautifully at Chloe, “I’ll be right back.”

She smoothed out her clothes and ran her fingers through her long silky hair as she made her way over to their table. She graced the both of them with a perfect smile that screamed, “I’ll fucking cut your fucking heart out with a fucking spoon if you so much as fucking think about touching Clark!”

“Lana,” Clark said a little uncomfortably from their confrontation yesterday.

“Hi,” Lana said coolly as Ronan looked up at her, “Can I get you anything or are you just here to socialize?”

Ronan smiled and Lana matched it and his voice matched her temperature, “I’ll have an iced tea.”

“Of course,” she said writing it down as she mumbled in her brain, “Would you like that with the poison my dear?”

Lana turned her icy gaze to Clark and cocked her head to the side waiting for his order. He squirmed from being looked at like a snake looks a baby bird, and Ronan put a beautifully pale hand over his golden one, and Lana hissed like an angry cat that was about to scratch a bitches eyes out.

Clark asked, “Are you okay?”

Lana forced a perfect smile that felt like it was going to break her face, “I’m fine,” she lied, “I just have this crick in my neck.”

“And what a lovely neck it is,” Ronan thought and quickly banished the thought. He was not hungry, right now.

“Okay,” Clark said as he looked the menu over again even though he got the same thing every damn time, “I’ll have the grilled chicken sandwich with a glass of Mountain Dew.”

Lana wrote it down and gave Ronan a feral grin as she stalked away like the evil queen who just discovered she was not the most beautiful being in the kingdom. She stalked passed Chloe and hissed at the two young waitresses who were looking all hot for Clark and Ronan, “Go Clean Something!”

Chloe just shook her head to keep from running out the door screaming into the night. She got up with her stuff and moved over to sit at Clark’s table. She smiled at the two of them, “May I join you two studs?”

Clark made room for her and Ronan smiled warmly at her.

Clark whispered, “Is Lana okay?”

Chloe bit her bottom lip and shrugged her shoulders as she started typing again, “I dunno.”

“Nothing has happened,” Clark asked, “Has it?”

“No,” Chloe said calmly as she thought of Pompeii, “Nothing yet.”

“What’s that supposed to mean,” Clark asked.

“Did I just say that out loud,” she asked and Ronan nodded. She quickly came up with a good lie, “She is just nervous about school starting tomorrow.”

“Oh,” Clark said looking over at Ronan who was looking at everyone and everything not even blinking at all.

“School,” Ronan asked and Clark laughed as he told Chloe, “Ronan is enrolled in some night Classes here at Met U.”

“Oh,” Chloe said and then asked Ronan, “How old are you?”

“Eighteen,” Clark said, “He’s eighteen.”

Ronan smiled, “I do so love having my own hot Metatron,” he said with a chuckle, “Its good being God.”

Chloe smirked and then asked, “What are you majoring in?”

“Anthropology,” Ronan said eyeing the napkin holder that distorted his reflection. It made him laugh, “I love culture and its many hidden secrets.”

Chloe nodded her head, “So, you came here from Ireland.”

“Yes,” he said with a lazy smile, “I got a full scholarship.”

“Awesome,” Chloe said as Ronan leaned over, “What are you working on?”

“An article,” Chloe said looking it over, “For the front page of tomorrow’s edition of the Torch.”

“Sounds hot,” Ronan said winking at her, “What’s it over?”

“It’s about how they’re vampires in Smallville,” she told him.

Clark paled, “Vampires?”

“Yeah,” Chloe said and Ronan looked like he was all ears, “They found two bodies out in Lander’s field last night.”

“Really,” Ronan asked calmly.

“Their heads, hands, and feet were completely removed,” she said as if this didn’t faze her one bit, “Two bite marks on their necks and blood completely drained.”

Clark looked at Ronan from out of the corner of his eye, “Mom didn’t mention anything like this happening.”

“It’s not in the paper yet Clark,” she told him.

“Then how did you,” he asked and then made a face, “Oh.”

“I get to have secrets to Clark,” she said just as Lana brought over their orders.

“Here you go,” Lana said in a voice dripping with poison laced with honey, “One iced tea for you.”

Ronan took it with a thanks and she smiled sweetly screaming for him to die in her head as she handed Clark his order, “I hope you enjoy your meal,” she said and went back to rant in front of her enchanted mirror that refused to tell her she was the most beautiful of all.

Chloe winked at Ronan, “I think she likes you.”

“Really,” he asked as he pretended to drink his tea, “I would never have guessed.”

“About these vampires,” Clark asked, “How do you know it’s not some cult killing or something?”

“Uh-huh,” Chloe said as she typed some more while he took a bite of his sandwich, “This just reads vampiric meteor freak.”

Ronan stirred his drink knowing it was Edge and the clown as he thought, “Jenna.”

-------------------------

Jenna smiled viciously as his spell was now almost complete. All he needed was just one more little something and he could get on with his plan torture Ronan. Smallville was a great place to feed. The miserable humans just blamed everything on the meteor freaks, whatever the fuck they were.

Being so far from home had zapped his power of being able to do that which he does best. He now had to do it the slow way and it was taking forever. Everything had to be perfect, otherwise it would fuck up and he would have to start all over again.

He took flight out into the night to gather that which he seeks, and he was going to have fun doing it. He was just bubbling with anticipation to see the look of horror on Ronan’s face when all was ready. His cold laughter filled the night sky and the stars hid behind the rolling clouds.

--------------------

Chloe could not take it anymore because Lana was really starting to get on her damn nerves. She loved Lana to death, but enough was enough, really. She got up from her bed and just smacked Lana across the face with a pillow.

Lana blinked and her face became deadly, “What the hell was that for?”

“You,” Chloe said pecking her on the head, “You are getting on my last nerve. My rubber band is about to snap.”

Lana frowned, “Who is that boy? What is he? He can’t be normal. Nobody is so…”

“Beautiful, perfect, flawless, gorgeous, sexy,” Chloe filled in the gap for her, “He’s all that.”

Lana cocked her head to the side and Chloe saw he flex her long fingers as if they would turn into claws at any minute, “Is Clark gay, Chloe?”

“What makes you ask that,” she asked not really sure if she liked where this conversation was going.

“The way the two of them were looking at each other,” Lana hissed, “He has Clark under some spell like that one bitch had Lex under hers.”

Chloe laughed, “Are you jealous Lana.”

Lana just looked at Chloe and then just deflated, “After everything he’s been through Chloe.”

“You don’t want to see him hurt,” Chloe finished.

“He’s always been there for us Chloe,” she said hugging her pillow, “I worry about him.”

“He’s a big boy Lana,” Chloe said taking a seat next to her, “I’ve even seen him tie his own shoelaces.”

Lana snorted and then glared at her, “That boy is too…pretty.”

“Pretty,” Chloe scoffed dramatically, “That man is a fucking God.”

She never saw the pillow until it was too late.
