Chapter 9
Sam breathed in the relaxing aroma of vanilla and Dean. He had basically fallen asleep when Dean whispered in his ear.
“So, what should we name them?” Dean asked before placing a kiss to Sam’s temple.
Sam thought for a few minutes before answering. “Mary and Jessica.”
“I love it. Mary and Jessica. Hey Sammy, why did you go through all of this alone?” Everything was kept at a whisper. Neither wanting to break the relaxing atmosphere, or wake the girls.
Sam grabbed Dean’s hand, lacing their fingers, before answering. “I thought you would think I was a freak. I looked it up, ya know. There have only been ten reported cases of male pregnancy. Of course, I didn’t look up male pregnancy.”
“I could never think you a freak Sammy, but what did you look up?” Dean already knew the answer, but he wanted to hear Sam say it.
Sam blushed, as always, before answering. “I looked up gay sex. The male pregnancy website was a few down, so I clicked on it. It explained everything. Why I was gaining so much weight so quickly. Male pregnancy gestations are only three months long, so that’s why I was so big. Well, that and the fact I was carrying two babies instead of one, like the website said was the ‘norm’ for male pregnancies. Whatever the ‘norm’ may be at this point.” Sam’s last comment causing Dean to give a chuckle.
“I know what you mean. You want to know something Sammy?” Dean whispered into his ear. Sam turned his head to Dean, and gave him a look of child like curiosity, causing Deam to give another quiet laugh. “I already knew about male pregnancy.”
“What?!” Sam gave a whispered yell. “How do you know?”
A small smile graced Dean’s lips. “Both my parents are men. John got pregnant when he was eighteen. At the time, him and Bobby, my other dad, were just best friends. They were celebrating graduating high school. They got wasted off their asses and ended up sleeping together. Cliché, I know. The next morning, Bobby freaked out, screaming he wasn’t gay, and bolted. Dad had told Bobby back in their sophomore year that he was gay, so I think that was a big reason Bobby had freaked out. John spent the next week pretty much locked up in his room. He finally came out, but wouldn’t tell anyone what happened. Him and Bobby didn’t talk for months, so Bobby never knew dad was pregnant. Dad figured out eventually what was going on and did the same thing you did Sammy, went through everything by himself. When he went into labor, he was so scared that he called Ellen, they had been friends since kindergarten. He told her he needed her help. She was over there without even asking why.” Dean paused in his story to look at Sam. He had a look of amazement on his face. Dean took that as his sign to continue.
“Dad told me he heard Ellen burst through the door like she was a stampede of elephants. She called out for him, and he yelled back that he was in his bedroom. She ran through the door and saw John sitting on the bed, crying and sweating, pushing with everything he had. She didn’t ask any questions, just hopped up on the bed, in between his legs, and helped. Dad told me she coached him just like I did to you. Unlike you though, he had time to breath between pushing the head out, and pushing the shoulders out. According to Ellen, when dad had to push the shoulders out, he screamed so loud that she thought her eardrums would burst. Of course, dad denies it with a passion.” Dean paused in his story to chortle.
“I was born at 7:35 A.M. Dad said he had never cried so hard in his life. Said that I was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. He told me that he held me and stared at me while Ellen cleaned him up. She eventually asked what was going on. He explained everything to her, including the part that he hadn’t told Bobby. John was stunned when she wasn’t mad at him for that. She said, ‘No, I understand, but you’ll have to tell him sometime, but no matter what happens, I am going to spoil my nephew rotten.’ Dad was totally okay with that. Ellen stayed at the house the entire next week helping Dad out. It was the day Ellen was going to leave that Bobby came by. Ellen answered the door , and I’m telling you, if looks could kill, Bobby would be very, very dead. According to Dad, Bobby nearly shit his pants. Ellen growled out a ‘What are doing here?’ before stepping aside to let him in. Dad stood in the hallway, staring at Bobby, holding me against his chest. Apparently, he forced himself to stay put and not run for cover.”
“Holy shit,” Sam whispered. Dean gave him a light glare for interrupting his story. “Sorry.” Dean smiled lightly and continued.
“So, according to both Ellen and dad, Bobby stood there catching flies with his mouth. He got a mumbled ‘idiot’ from Ellen before he snapped out of his stupor and started walking towards dad. Now don’t get me wrong, my dad is anything but a coward, but he was backing away from Bobby with me still in his arms, their fight still fresh in his mind. Bobby eventually stopped, seeing that he wasn’t getting any closer to John. ‘Where’s the baby from John?’ Bobby had asked. When he didn’t get an answer, he asked again a little more fiercely. Dad told him the truth, ‘Me.’ ‘What?’ ‘The baby, Bobby, is from me. I carried him, gave birth to him, he came from me.’ ‘What the fuck do you mean John? Men can’t have babies.’ ‘Obviously they can Bobby.’ Was dad’s answer with his famous ‘you’re an idiot’ look.”
“Before he could start arguing again, Ellen piped in. ‘Men can have babies Bobby. I helped him deliver Dean.’ ‘You helped?’ ‘Yeah, I helped.’ Bobby looked back at dad, who had stayed silent. ‘Why didn’t you tell me?’ He had figured everything out. Dad didn’t get a chance to respond before Ellen did. ‘Why didn’t he tell you? Why didn’t he tell you?! Because you freaked out on him, and left him heartbroken you bastard!’ Apparently Bobby was completely floored. Before their argument could continue, I gave a whimper. It snapped everybody back to reality. Oh, hey, before I tell you anymore, you should know that you can breast feed.” Dean grinned as Sam blushed.
“What?!” he squeaked. Sam looked down at his chest, thinking that the weight he had gained there was from the pregnancy. Guess not. Damn.
“Yep, that’s right Sammy, you can breast feed.” He could hear the amusement in Dean’s voice.
“It’s not funny,” Sam grumbled.
“Yeah it is. Anyways, on with my story. I whimpered, interrupting their arguing. ‘You hungry babe?’ Dad asked me as he took me back to his bedroom. Bobby started to follow, but Ellen told him 'stay put.' At that point, Bobby was terrified of Ellen, and stayed exactly where he was. Ellen followed dad back, asking him if he wanted her to make Bobby leave. He said no. Ellen told me she had never been so pissed in her life, but shut up. The conversation dad and Bobby had lasted hours, Ellen sitting on the sidelines glaring daggers at Bobby, making him squirm. Bobby apologized profusely, but dad didn’t forgive him till I was nearly six. They’ve been together nearly twenty years now, and are they happiest people I know. Well, besides us.” Dean leaned down and gave Sam a gentle kiss, expressing everything he felt. When he pulled away, Sam was smiling up at him. “Oh, and Ellen does spoil me rotten. She’s the one who bought me the impala.” He grinned.
“Why did you tell me all that?” Sam whispered.
“Because you deserved to know. You’re the person I’m going to spend the rest of my life with. I needed to let you know that you weren’t a freak. You had our children Sammy; I want to have more with you someday. I love you.” Sam didn’t get a chance to reply, their girls giving small whimpers from the bedroom. “Feeding time Sammy,” Dean grinned, gently lifting Sam from the tub.
