Cauterised
Chapter:10
Bobby pushed Sara through the door of the stone room and she stumbled in.
“Later,” he said looking at her and then leaving.
Sara crumpled to the floor, held her hands to her face, and cried, hard.
Kate left her implement heating in the flame for a second. Picking up a small block of wood from the table she walked back to Grissom. The perspiration pooled down his face, he was shaking now. His heart beating rapidly.
“Aghh!”, Grissom cried as Kate squeezed the wood under his injured hand raising it slightly from the chair to give her easier access.
“Amazing what you see and learn in prison. Such useful things. My cell mate showed me this in my second year. Some newbie had pissed her off, tried to take her spot, so she taught her a good lesson in the work shop. Not quite the same implements, but at the time, improvisation was all that she had. Hmm, memories. I‘ll tell you about it later,” she chuckled.
Grissom looked on, terrified as she walked back to the table and picked up the pole. Now glowing bright yellow, smoke smouldering from the top, the heat intense.
Grissom swallowed hard as she walked back to him. He was as white as snow, his eyes wide and he uncontrollably shook at the sight approaching him. She took his hand holding it still.
“Now”, Kate said “This may hurt a little so don’t be afraid to scream…..!”
Sara sat, her knee’s close to her chest, wiping away her tears. Then she heard it….the most agonising scream she’d ever heard, ripping at the pits of her soul.
She shot to her feet. “Oh god! What are you doing to him?” She screamed and began banging on the door.
Kate pressed metal harder onto Grissom’s skin as the sound from his lungs echoed around the room. Cauterising flesh was an interesting thing. It only took about 10 seconds before he passed out from the pain. The heat burned his skin, but clotted the blood, causing the flow to stop. Now where his finger had been lay black burnt flesh. Kate stood back admiring her handy work as Bobby returned. She began to un strap Grissom. As she untied his neck his upper body fell limply forward onto her. She pushed him back.
“Give me a hand would you darling?”
Bobby nodded and held Grissom’s unconscious body while she untied the rest of him.
“Take him back to her baby. I’m sure they will have a lot to talk about when he comes too,” she smirked.
Bobby bent and picked Grissom up.
Sara stood back as she saw the door open. Not knowing who or what would be coming at her.
Bobby walked in and dropped Grissom on the floor, turning and leaving without a word.
Sara hesitated slightly before going to him. She knelt beside him and stroked the hair from his brow. She reached down and looked at his injured hand. She gasped loudly seeing how chard it was.
“Jesus, god!” She mumbled. His wound looked horrific. If it got infected he could loose his hand. She ran to the cabinet as fast as she could. She needed to clean and strap his hand as quickly as possible….
As she placed the last strapping on, his eyes slowly opened. He could feel his hand throbbing constantly but yet he felt numb. Probably through the shock he was suffering.
He looked at her caring for him, but she looked away. She couldn’t look him in the eye.
“Sara…,” he whispered. She ignored him. “Sara!” He now pleaded.
She thought for a few seconds before finally turning to look him in the eye. Her own eyes now tearful once again.
“I’m sorry,” she chocked. “I….had too….or she would have…..” Grissom placed a finger on her lips.
He shook his head. “Don’t,” was his simple statement. He sat up and managed to hold her. As tightly as he possibly could. She cried into his shoulder, and his tears quickly followed.
They held each other for a long time. Grissom contemplated telling Sara about Kate, but decided against it just yet. He hadn’t got the whole story and the thought of this being his fault ripped at his gut. He needed to know the whole story before he could tell her, and he didn‘t have the heart too at that moment.
Sara leaned them both against the wall and felt Grissom relax against her body. His head resting on her right breast. He tried to stay awake but his eyes fell shut and he drifted back into darkness.
