Vesta

The weeks passed so quickly.

Clark went back to work at the Planet,plus doing the other good deeds he was known for.

Vesta was now enrolled in the Lang school for gifted children .

A school especially for meteor affected children.


One Saturday afternoon when Clark was in town with Chloe Lois came by for a visit.

Vesta was sitting at the table drawing pictures , and Martha was washing up lunch dishes .

“ Lois it nice to see you”, said Martha .

Hi Lois”, Vesta curiously looked at bag Lois had.

“ What is in the bag”?

“ It is something I picked up for you pixie”.

Vesta eyes gleamed with excitement.

“ Let me see Lois!"

“ Okay just a second”.

Lois handed the bag to Vesta .

She poured it out on to the table.

“ Wow my favorite raspberry suckers!”

“ Thank you Lois!”

“ Your welcome.”

Lois sat down beside Vesta .

Vesta unwrapped one of the suckers ,and took a lick .

Lois this is”.

Vesta could n’t finish what she was saying before started to convulse profusely.

Martha stopped washing dishes

Lois picked Vesta up .

“ Lois I’ll call Clark on the way to the hospital”.

Martha dialed the number while holding Vesta in her arms.

Her tiny body was still shaking , and her breathing was getting sallow.

The phone rang

“ Hello”

“ Clark Vesta is really sick meet Lois , and I at the hospital”.

Clark was waiting on them at the hospital.

Lois ran up ,and handed Vesta over to him.

“ Clark she started to convulse after taking a lick of this sucker.

Vesta had gotten worst her body was now limp, even with his super hearing he could barely hear her heart beating.

One of the nurses took Vesta from Clark .

“ Mr. Kent your mother has already called the hospital”.

Clark saw the Dr walking down the hall .

“ Mr. Kent Nurse Chandler will put your daughter on a breathing machine”.

“ You can go on in the room”.

Martha,and Lois walked in the room after him.

The nurse hurried to get Vesta on the breathing Machine.

It made her breathing a little better,but she was still gasping for what air she was trying to take in to her tiny lungs.

Clark was standing by her bed .

Lois hugged him, her eyes filled with tears .

“ Clark I’m so sorry”.

“ Lois it not your falt”.

“ Mr. Kent I will take this sucker to the lab”, said Dr. Billingsley.

“ Clark I’m going to call Lana", Chloe,said dailing the number on her cell.

Martha was holding Vesta hand.

“ Come on Honey”.

“ Mom she has to be okay”.

“ Sweetheart I can’t make you any promises , but she is a tough little girl”.

Clark was pacing the floor .

A Few minutes later Dr. Billingsley came back into the room.

“ We found what is causing your daughters allergic reaction to the sucker”.

“ What?” Martha,and Clark could not believe their ears .

“ The sucker had traces of red meteor rock in it”.

“ The candy manufacturer probably used it in there food coloring”.

“ Nurse Rosenthal will start giving her the antidote intravenously”.

A moment later Lana,and Chloe rushed into the room”.

“ Clark what happen”? , They asked simultaneously.

“ She had a allergic reaction to a sucker that was tainted with red K “.
