Chapter Nine

If walls break down, I will comfort you
If angels cry, oh I’ll be there for you
You’ve saved my soul
Don’t leave me now, don’t leave me now
Oh

_Take That

Kyle was in the loft looking out over the back of the farmland. He watched how the pink lightning seemed to dance in the dark storm clouds as soft thunder echoed from somewhere in the distance. It was so pretty. The lightning reminded him of the rattle snake. It was the way the pink bolts seemed to slither and coil from cloud to cloud.

He could hear Clark down below using what he had called a hammer to fix a mechanical contraption he called a tractor. It was this big red thingy on wheels that made this really loud noise when it came on. He did not like the noise the tractor made at all. It was too loud and it had startled him.

He turned from the window to walk over and look at some of the objects that were sitting out on the wooden desk. There was a blue contraption that looked like a metal bird, and there was that thing Clark called a radio sitting on it. He had all kinds of books and magazines scattered here and there as well. He liked looking at all the pretty pictures. It was all the colors and the designs that really caught his attention. The words didn’t really mean much to him. It was the emotion in all the pictures that told him what he needed to know.

He opened up a drawer and smiled at some of the pictures that were lying inside. There was a picture of Clark with the girl he called Chloe. She was very pretty and seemed to always be smiling when around him. He saw a picture of another girl that was very beautiful but she did not have that spark Chloe had in her eyes. This girls olive green eyes were lost, sad, haunting. Who was she?

Oh, what’s this I see here?

A glowing pearly white hand lifted up a drawing that appeared to be of a man kissing another man under the light of a shooting star. He walked over and held it up to the light so he could get a better look at it. He could definitely tell that one of the men was Clark. It was the way the hair had been drawn and the eyes were the only trace of color in the whole thing. The eyes were the color of green grass.

“Ah,” Clark said with a laugh, “I see that someone is as snoopy as Chloe.”

“Your art is beautiful,” Kyle said as he showed Clark the drawing he had discovered.

“Just a dream I had a long time ago,” Clark said as he sat the hammer down on the table in the corner.

“Dreams speak from the heart,” Kyle said as he handed Clark the drawing, “This one speaks of wanting love…acceptance from someone.”

“Eh,” Clark said with a soft smile as he sat the drawing down, “It was just some silly daydream I had while skipping PE.”

“You look sad when you look at it,” Kyle said as he walked over to the bigger boy, “It must have meant something to you.”

“At the time,” Clark said as he looked down at Whitney, “But then I saw how cold people can be.”

“Not everyone is cold, Clark,” Kyle told him as he put a glowing hand on his arm, “One can never put boundaries on love.”

“No,” Clark asked, “Then why is there always a price?”

Kyle moved his glowing hand up to caress a rosy golden cheek, “So lonely.”

But his lips had not moved.

Clark’s eyes widened, “Did you just speak without moving your mouth?”

Kyle took those big golden hands in his and looked them over, “Oh, such pain.”

“Stop it,” Clark said and pulled his hands away from him and Kyle’s molten blue eyes watered with crystal light.

“I’m sorry,” Kyle said and his glow seemed to vanish as he turned his back to him.

Clark tripped over his tongue, “No, I am.”

“You wished for love,” Kyle said and began to walk away.

I did,” Clark said and moved to stop him but froze.

“You don’t see me,” Kyle whispered as he reached the steps to go down.

Clark frowned, “I do see you…you’re right in front of me.”

His emerald green orbs widened.

Kyle was about to take that first step down only to gasp when he felt powerful arms wrap around his waist to stop him. He leaned back into that warm breast and began to glow when Clark rested his head on his left shoulder and nuzzled a glowing cheek.

“I do see you, Kyle,” he said as he led him backwards away from the steps down. He did not want to be left all alone in his Fortress of Solitude.

Crystal clear tears that glowed like silver moonlight streamed from Kyle’s eyes as Clark pulled backwards to the couch, “Do you?”

Clark turned him around and gazed down into those molten blue stars, “I see you.”

Kyle smiled and his whole body seemed to pulse with a brilliant silver and ivory light. He felt as though his heart was singing out in some great chorus.

Clark lowered his head at an angle and Kyle’s radiant blue eyes widened when that kiss came. Warmth he had never known before began to spread throughout his entire body. He wrapped his pearly glowing arms around Clark’s neck and smiled as the kiss deepened into something sweet and unknown. Having Clark’s tongue in his mouth excited him even more and it made him moan for those big hands to touch more of his body.

“Clark,” a voice called out from below, “Did you get that tractor fixed…why is it so bright in here?”

Clark pulled away from the honey sweet mouth and opened his eyes to see that Kyle was like some molten silver flame burning in his arms. The smile on his face was breathtaking and his eyes were filled with something that Clark wanted to take and hold forever and ever. He would snarl and snap at any who dared to try and take it away from him.

“Yeah,” Clark rasped out, “I got most of it finished.”

“All right,” Jonathan called up, “Why is it so bright in here? What’s going on up there? Is Kyle alright?”

“I’m fine, Mr. Kent,” Kyle called down and his voice was like smooth silver moonbeams fluttering through clouds, “I’m just glowing a little brighter tonight.”

“Oh, okay,” he said, “It’s almost bedtime, Clark.”

“Yeah,” Clark said not really paying all that much attention. He couldn’t take his eyes off his silver star.

“You have school tomorrow,” Mr. Kent said, “Did you get your homework done?”

“Yeah,” he called down.

“All right,” Jonathan said and the two boys listened to his retreating footsteps.

Clark ran his hand through Kyle’s silky smooth hair, “Sleepy?”

Kyle shook his head, “I won’t set for a few more hours.”

Clark smiled and caressed a luminous cheek with a big hand, “We’d better go in and get ready for bed or else Dad will start mooing at the moon.”

Kyle laughed and took Clark’s hand in his, “Okay.”

“I call the shower first,” Clark said and began to lead the way.

Kyle playfully pouted.

The witch queen was strolling through Palmer’s Woods lost in her thoughts. Her silk gown billowed in the warm night breeze as pink lightning danced in the black clouds overhead. It was such a beautiful night.

She had seen the school and a big castle. It really had surprised her that there was a castle out here in the middle of nowhere. That would be a great place to set up base.

“Ah,” she said aloud to herself as she glided across the ground, “So this is where the pretty shiny fell down and went boom.”

She walked around the crater and smiled, “It won’t be long now, my Beloveds.”

“You really should hurry it up Sister,” the youngest witch queen said from the enchanted ring, “Before something happens.”

“Yes,” the middle sister said, “What if he leaves the city and becomes nothing but stardust?”

“That won’t happen,” the eldest said, “The star will be ours.”

“We shall do another scrying,” the youngest said, “And come up with a plan that shall not fail.”

“Yes,” the eldest said, “That sounds like a wonderful idea.”

“We shall get to it then,” the middle sister said.

“You know my number,” the eldest said and the red glow to the ruby vanished.

She continued to walk around the crater and threw out her hand, “I, the eldest of the Lilim, command the spirit of this area to reveal unto me the events that happened here.”

“Well, you see,” the spirit said as it appeared like a wispy vapor before her, “It all started 500 years ago.”

“Oh, stuff it,” the witch queen snapped, “Just show me what took place when this crater first appeared.”

The spirit rolled its misty eyes, “So impatient.”

The witch queen whipped her hand out and gripped the spirit by the nose bringing it level with her raging amber orbs, “What was that?”

“I said that a boy named Clark Kent came by for his usual emo visit and found the fallen boy from the heavens,” the spirit said.

“Clark,” the witch queen asked with a poison voice, “Kent?”

The spirit nodded, “That’s right.”

“And,” she asked.

“Well, he zipped on out of here like his feet were on fire with that boy in his arms,” the spirit told her.

“Zipped,” she asked with flashing eyes.

“He has these amazing powers,” the spirit said, “He is like a God in this world.”

The great and powerful witch queen, the eldest of the Lilim cocked her head to the side, “A God you say…”

The spirit trembled because thousands of years of insanity and power filled the witch queen’s molten amber orbs, “That’s right.”

“Hmm,” the witch queen said and released the spirit’s nose, “I need a drink.”

“Do you require anything else, your majesty,” the spirit asked with a small voice.

The witch queen shook her head and waved her hand, “You may go.”

The spirit vanished with a pop.

“A God,” she smiled evilly as she turned on her heel and glided back towards her car, “I need to find a phonebook.”

I wonder how many Kent’s live in Podunk.
