Chapter 10

Green
Flora Winters

I do not own Smallville

Summary: Something bad is going down in the small town of Smallville and it’s all Lex’s fault. He has always been too curious for his own good. If only he had not tripped and fallen that day while snooping around the Kent farm when the elder Kent’s were out of town and Clark was at school.

Chapter 10

Glowing emerald eyes snapped open to glare at the miserable ape who dared to strike her vessel across the face. She looked around to see everything frozen in her wake and smiled. Her powers were getting stronger with each outing that she took. She looked down to see a small piece of metal frozen in place before her breastbone. Reaching out with a pale hand she snatched it up between her thumb and index finger looking at the strange shape.

Her voice was so quite and yet it rang as clear as a crash of thunder over a raging sea, “So tiny.”

She looked at the ape who almost killed her vessel in which would have cast her essence into oblivion. Rage swelled and power bubbled dangerously below the surface and she flicked the small piece of metal back at the ape causing everything to crash back into motion.

The bullet struck the man right between the eyes with so much force his brains exploded out the back of his skull sending him head over heels though the shattering glass door. His partner cried out and everyone in the establishment screamed at the gunshot.

Kryptonia spun around in slow motion to see Kal-El racing right for her. Her eyes widened as he swooped her up in his arms and whisked her away in a blur of black and green.

Clark sat Kryptonia down on her feet about fifteen blocks away from the establishment only for her to pin him to a wall. He glared at her as she hissed, “Do not ever touch us!”

He grabbed her wrist which only made her lift him off his feet, “Now you try and use your strength against us?”

He coughed and kicked trying to get her to release him, “Do not ever presume that you are a match for us Kal-El.”

She dropped him on his ass, “You killed that man!”

“We did,” she snapped, “If it had not been for us your lover would be lying dead this very second.”

“You didn’t have to kill him,” Clark argued, “We could have just left.”

“Kal-El,” Kryptonia said looking down at him, “We do as we please.”

“It’s not right,” Clark said.

She raised a delicate green eyebrow, “Who are you to judge us?”

“Who are you to,” Clark asked which made her laugh scornfully, and he was taken aback. He had no idea that such a laugh could ever come out of Lex’s throat.

“Kal-El,” she cooed, “We are a God. Our ways are above your puny moral senses of good and evil.”

“More like an egocentric bitch,” he snapped, “Who was scorned by my father!”

He did not know what hit him until his back cracked through a solid stone wall, “Do not ever mention that loathsome creature to us ever!”

Clark grinned, “Did I pinch a nerve oh great one?”

Green lightning crackled from the corner of her eyes, “You walk a dangerous line Kal-El,” she whispered, “Do be sure not to trip it.”

He pulled his large frame from the wall to stand up to face her. Lex looked so beautiful with ankle length hair and those emerald eyes, but he had to remember that this was not Lex. This was a creature that created the word dangerous and unpredictable.

She was brushing her fingers through her long green hair while looking at him intently. He pulled his shirt down, “Do you always use violence to get your point across?”

Kryptonia put a hand on his cheek and Clark noticed the long green nails that looked to be sharper than razors, “Not always.”

Her touch was gentle and soft and he knew it could turn harsh and hard at any second, “Why Lex?”

She pulled her hand away to look her surroundings over, “We do not like it here.”

Clark looked around and suddenly panicked, “Oh my god!”

“Yes,” Kryptonia asked which made Clark snap, “Not you!”

“What is it,” she asked.

“The restaurant,” he said, “The cameras.”

“What is that,” she asked while combing her hair again with her long nails.

“It could have picked us up,” he told her, “It could see what we just did.”

“And your point is,” she asked.

“You don’t understand,” Clark said, “They’ll come for Lex.”

Kryptonia ran this through her vast and boundless mind, “This could be bad,” she said, “We command you to go and get that camera.”

“Excuse me,” he said, “I’m not leaving you here to go off and do only god knows what.”

“We always know what we’re doing Kal-El,” she told him matter of fact.

Clark almost raised his hand, almost, “You’re coming with me.”

She glared at him but remembered her promise to the vessel, “Very well,” she told him, “We shall go with you but only because it pleases us to.”

“Whatever,” Clark said motioning quickly, “Come on.”

Kryptonia slapped his hand away, “We’re just as fast as you Kal-El if not faster.”

Clark rubbed his hand, “I don’t trust you.”

“Deal with it,” she said, “For we care not,” and she was gone in a green blur.
He quickly followed.
***********************************************************

A few minutes later Clark was holding the film from the camera and Kryptonia was watching the bright flashing lights from the ambulance and police cars. People were crying and holding each other as the medics carried off the body of the dead robber. Clark melted the tape with his heat vision and let it fall to the pavement to watch it smoke and curl.

Kryptonia walked over to stand next to him, “Human bodies are so fragile,” she whispered, “If we are forced to Kal-El we will break more.”

Clark looked at her, “Why?”

“He was just a man Kal-El,” she told him as the ambulance drove away,” Lex would be dead right now if it had not been for us. You would not have been fast enough to stop that bullet Kal-El because the man was too close. The ape got his punishment.”

Clark closed his eyes, “You could have just knocked him out or something,” he told her, “You have great power and you don’t need to flaunt it.”

“Flaunt it,” she asked, “we flaunt nothing.”

“Yes,” Clark said, “You do.”

She narrowed her eyes, “Explain.”

“First off,” Clark said, “You killed Lex’s father, then you beat the hell out of me for having an opinion, then you go and kill that man,” he told her, “If you don’t get your way you resort to violence until you get it.”

“Ok Kal-El,” she asked, “What would you have done if Lex was shot dead?”

Clark froze, “What?”

“Answer us Kal-El,” she snapped, “Tell us what the pious Kal-El would have done had his lover been killed.”

Clark punched his fist through the brick wall and Kryptonia nodded her head, “Never judge us Kal-El Less you judge yourself.”

He looked at her, “I want Lex back.”

“He’s resting right now,” she told him while leaning back to rest against the wall.

“I don’t care,” Clark told her, “I want him here now!”

“Do not,” Kryptonia warned, “Raise your voice to us Kal-El.”

He stalked right up to her and looked down into those electric green eyes that crackled and hissed with dangerous power, “Don’t tell me what I can and can’t do.”

She cocked her head to the side smiling, “You play with fire Kal-El.”

“Well,” he said matter of fact, “Good thing fire can’t hurt me.”

She frowned slightly, “You really aren’t afraid of us.”

“I’m afraid for Lex,” he yelled, “I want him back now!”

He was lifted off the ground by the neck faster that lighting striking a poor unsuspecting tree, “Now listen to us Kal-El,” Kryptonia roared causing the wind to blow and thunder to boom overhead, “We may not be able to hurt you too much but your lovely parents can feel my sting!”

She dropped him, “You promised Lex,” he shouted and she froze, “And you’re doing it again! You’re resorting to violence to get your way!”

She suddenly felt conflicted and kicked him in the stomach sending him back into the wall, “Silence!”

He fell to his knees and looked up at her with tears stinging his wrathful eyes. She took a step back when he yelled, “I hate you!”

Her eyes softened slightly and she knelt down before him taking his shaking hands in her own, “Don’t get in our way Kal-El and your parents won’t be harmed.”

“Why him,” he asked, “Out of all the people why Lex?”

Kryptonia closed her eyes, “We don’t like it here,” she whispered, “It’s too loud.”

Clark took his hands back from her, “We can go back to the penthouse?”

“Fine,” she said.

“But,” he said, “You can’t be seen looking like that.”

“Like what,” she asked narrowing her eyes at him.

“Lex does not have green hair or green eyebrows,” he told her.

She pursed her lips, “What are you telling us Kal-El?”

He took a deep breath, “You have to get rid of your hair and the green eyebrows.”

She took a deep breath and he prepared himself for a punch, kick, lightning, earthquake only for her to say, “So be it.”
**************************************************************

Clark led a bald Kryptonia into the penthouse and closed the door behind them. He watched her walk around the room and then turned around as hair began to sprout from her head. It flowed down along her shoulders and back to stop at her ankles.

She listened and smiled, “It’s quite.”

Clark followed her into the living room and she started to strip off her clothing and Clark froze, “What are you doing?”

“This color is atrocious,” she stated, “We do not like it.”

“You can’t just strip off your clothes,” he said blushing.

She looked around, “This is Lex Luthor’s abode.”

“I know that,” he snapped, “You can’t just strip in front of me.”

She walked closer to him, “You’ve seen this body before Kal-El.”

“Not like that,” he blushed, “And not you.”

He pointed to Lex’s bedroom, “Go change in there.”
She looked to where he was pointing and nodded, “Very well Kal-El.”

“And close the door,” he shouted and it slammed shut.

He sat down on the sofa rubbing his eyes in gentle semi-circles with his palms. Something just seemed off and he did not know what it was. Lex was in a lot of meetings today and none of them looked to be like official to help fine the ‘whereabouts’ of Lionel. Plus, what did he promise to help Kryptonia find? Clark really hated secrets even though he still has a trillion of his own. He needed to find out what it was Kryptonia needed or wanted.

He removed his shoes and went to go get something from the fridge to drink. He opened it up to see lots of blue bottles that was the water Lex was never seen without, and lots of orange juice bottles. He grinned, “Lex.”

He opened lots of cabinet doors until he found the glasses and pulled one out. They were made from what looked to be solid crystal. Clark rolled his eyes and poured himself a big glass of the yummy goodness. He turned around and almost dropped his glass when he saw Kryptonia a nose hair away from him.

Clark looked down to see all that creamy pale skin was covered by a deep forest green robe that looked to be made out of the finest silk on the planet. He noticed that she seemed to be waiting for something and he blushed, “You look nice.”

“Thank you Kal-El,” she said giving him a graceful twirl which made the silk flare and her hair billow magically, “It’s the only article of clothing Lex Luthor has in green.”

It was hard for him to stand their and be looking at Lex and talking to a completely different being. She looked at his hand, “What is it you are drinking Kal-El?”

He forgot about his glass, “Its orange juice,” he said offering the glass to her, “Want some?”

He watched the pale hand with long green nails take the glass from him and he felt her lightly caress the back of his palm which made him gasp. Kryptonia smiled to herself and held the glass to her nose and sniffed.

Clark saw a smile grace that beautiful face as she took a small sip and then paused for a second then downed the entire glass. She opened her eyes to see him looking at her with wide eyes, “It tastes similar to a drink that was once served on Krypton.”

“Really,” he asked,” What was it called?”

She gazed off and whispered in Kryptonian only for him to say that he did not understand.

“In this language we would assume it would be called the fruit of the rising sun,” she told him.

“So,” he asked, “It was served at breakfast?”

“The morning meal,” she said gazing at her reflection in the crystal glass.

“Why Lex Kryptonia,” he asked, “Out of all the people in the world, why him?”

He watched a chair slide across the floor and she sat down gracefully in it, “None of this was our intention Kal-El.”

“What do you mean,” he asked.

“We were imprisoned in a mystical crystal,” she said, “Lex Luthor broke it and our essence was released.”

Clark flashed back to the day at the farm and frowned, “Curiosity killed the cat Lex,” and a tear slid from his eye.

“Why do you weep Kal-El,” she asked softly.

“Why did you come to be in the crystal,” he asked pulling a chair up to sit in.

She turned her head to the side, “We do not wish to discuss such things.”

He looked down at his bare feet, “Please.”

She looked over at him, “Why would you even care?”

“If it was not for my father you would not be here at all,” he said, “And Lex and I could be happily dating right now.”

A harsh laugh escaped Kryptonia’s throat, “If it were not for that insect our world would not have blown up and you dear Kal-El would never had a way to come out to Lex Luthor,” she told him and then snapped, “You would not even be on this planet!”

Clark opened his mouth to argue and then snapped it shut. She was right. If it had not been for his father none of this would have happened. He would never have known his parents or fell in love with Lex.

“Speak to us Kal-El,” she said, “It seems very noisy in that lovely head of yours.”

“I’m glad it happened then,” he said barely in a whisper.

Kryptonia caught every word and the Goddess was shocked, “Why?”

“If it were not for my father I would never have known my parents here or fallen in love with Lex,” he said.

She looked away from him. The pain of loss was starting to hit her again. She had loved Jor-El and he had betrayed her. She had given him her heart and he had smashed it to shards on that lonely barren ice field. Her very screams of loss and anguish were starting to fill her ears. It was not a pretty sound.

A crystal green tear slid from the corner of an emerald orb. She had not realized that the wound was still fresh and it felt like someone had rubbed powdered glass into it.

“He must have hurt you badly,” Clark said softly.

Kryptonia wiped the tear away. That was twice now she had shed a tear in front of her inferiors. Clark scooted closer, “I did not know Gods could cry.”

She looked at him but it was not cold or harsh, “we never let anyone see.”

“Tell me how you got in the crystal Kryptonia,” he asked.

Her eyes snapped up to the annoying object on the all and she hurled a bolt of green lightning at it which blasted it to bits. The clock would never tick tock again, “How does one think with that constant noise,” she bellowed with her hair blowing and snapping wildly around her face as she prepared to hurl another one at it.

Clark shouted, “Stop! It’s dead! You killed it! No more knowing the time for you!”

She calmed instantly and listened intently, “It’s silent.”

“Yes,” Clark said trying not to pee on him self and laugh at the same time, “The tick tock is dead now.”

She nodded and hissed at it as she stalked from the room. The phone rang and Clark quickly grabbed it before she could blow it up to and told the man on the other line that Lex did not like the clock on the wall and sent it straight to hell where it belonged for being one minute off. The man on the other end grunted as if that explained everything and proceeded to tell Clark to have a goodnight.

Clark hung up the phone and followed her into the bedroom only for her to turn and look at him, “We wish to be alone.”

Clark looked at her pleadingly, “Tell me why?”

Her eyes glowed poison, “We wish to be alone.”

Clark shook his head, “Please.”

“Why,” she shouted, “We should never have said anything!”

“I need to know,” Clark bellowed at the top of his lungs, “Please!”

She flashed back to the alley and those three hurtful words rang in her ears, “I hate you!”

Her lower lip trembled slightly as she really gazed at him. He looked just like Jor-El had all those years ago. She was a God who had fallen in love with a man. She gave Clark a weak smile, “Sit with us Kal-El.”

“Will you tell me,” he asked.

She gently nodded and sat down on the soft water bed and motioned for Clark to join her. He hesitantly sat down and she whispered, “Make your self comfortable Kal-El, it is a long story.”

He nodded and pulled out a pillow so he could prop himself up. She looked him from the bottoms of his feet to the hair on the top of his head. He was indeed the spitting image of Jor-El and her heart was breaking all over again. She was a God. She was above all of this. It was only a man. She was power and immortality graced with endlessl beauty.

She looked at the candles that were placed around the room and everyone of them lit instantly, “Once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away,” she started only for Clark to interrupt her, “Kryptonia?”

She rolled her emerald orbs, “What,” she asked, “We can’t begin like Lex Luthors collection of Star Wars comics?”

Clark shook his head, “No.”

“Fine,” she said, “Where do we begin?”

“How about the beginning,” Clark offered.

She cocked a green eyebrow, “Do you have an eternity?”

Clark shrugged, “Maybe.”
