CHAPTER ONE

“I always follow the case where ever it leads, but I sure as hell never thought it would lead here.” Veronica thought just before all thought was interrupted. She grabbed a handful of the rumpled sheets with one hand and pressed her hand to her mouth to turn the cry that started to bubble from her throat into a strangled squeak as her body tensed and her back arching off the bed. She quivered while her sex clenched and wrung out a heavy flood of hot grease on the jolting current of pleasure that washed through her from his sucking lips and talented lashing tongue.

She mewled and writhed, her hand twisting and pulling at the sheet below her and she cried out softly having had to take her other hand away to pant, her breathing short and shallow to try and catch her breath as he relentlessly continued his tongue lashing. Pleasure wreaked havoc across her body and she both reveled in it even as she fought to retain control.

It had all started so innocently, just another case to help out an acquaintance. Brie Aston sidled up to her as she was putting her books into her locker, being more conspicuous by trying to be inconspicuous. Veronica closed her locker door and spun the tumbler before looking expectantly at the loitering blonde cheerleader. She sighed as the silence drew out.

“Can I help you with something?” She asked with just a touch of impatience in her voice and felt a little guilty as the other girl almost shrank away from her. “Are you okay?” Veronica changed tack, keeping her exasperation in check, in a softer tone and the other girl shook her head. Veronica sighed inwardly, but kept a soft gentle smile on her lips as she took the girls arm and guided her to the nearby ladies room. Leaving her at the door, Veronica quickly checked the stalls to make sure they were alone and then jammed the door shut with the trusty wedge she kept in her bag. Veronica vaguely wondered why and what kind of people procreated and named their offspring after soft cheese.

“Okay, Brie what’s the matter and how can I help?” Veronica enquired briskly, figuring a take-charge and business-like approach might get through to the distressed cheerleader before she broke out into tears. Brie sniffed and Veronica fished in her bag and handed the dark-haired girl a tissue.

“Someone stole my laptop out of my locker.” Brie said and Veronica frowned, not quite sure why the wealthy Oh-Niner would be so upset over such a relatively minor loss.

“Report it to the principal’s office, you might even get it back.”  Veronica suggested although she thought the latter was highly unlikely.

“I… I can’t. I… I don’t care about the laptop itself, but… But, there’s something on it that… That, well, I really wouldn’t like to become public knowledge. I need you to make sure that the contents are deleted, I don’t care what happens to the damn laptop.” The cheerleader admitted and the distress on her face was partially replaced by an embarrassed blush. Veronica’s eyebrow rose in silent question as her curiosity was piqued and she thought: “What have we here?”

“I can do that. It will cost you one hundred bucks a day plus expenses with a hundred up front.” Veronica proposed a more exorbitant fee than she usually would have to test Brie’s resolve, but in true blue Oh-Niner fashion, the cheerleader didn’t even bat an eyelid, just dug in her purse and hands Veronica a crisp hundred dollar bill. She took it and tucked it away in her back pocket. “Okay, that gets you private investigator / client confidentiality. So, what’s on the laptop?” Veronica enquired, needing to know that she wouldn’t be covering up anything illegal or get any other kind of nasty surprise.

“It’s personal. No one else knows about it.” The cheerleader mumbled, her blush returning in force. Veronica reached out and touched Brie’s shoulder lightly.

“Are you sure? I have to know, it might have a bearing on the motive of whoever took your laptop and who I have to deal with.” Veronica explained although she had ruled out something illegal, Brie’s reaction was embarrassment, not guilt. The golden-haired girl sighed and then took a deep breath. “You know my boyfriend, Simon Tully?” Brie started and Veronica nodded. “It’s our one year anniversary on Friday and…” Brie paused, gnawing at her lower lip as she searched Veronica’s eyes.

“Well… We haven’t… You know… And, he’s been like real patient and sweet about it, so…” She started to explain and faltered, her eyes dropping away from Veronica’s as she frowned. Brie’s chin rose slowly until their eyes met again. “I… I wanted to do something special for him, so, I used the built in camera to… To film myself… Film myself stripping and then masturbating and… And, when I was done I… I told him I wanted to do it with him. If anyone, but him saw that… I…” She admitted haltingly, unshed tears glistening in her eyes. Veronica handed her another tissue.

“Wow! It’s always the quiet ones.” Veronica thought feeling a little strange as her body reacted with a soft flush of heat as her mind created a mental image from the cheerleader’s words. “It’s okay, Brie. I’ll find your laptop and make sure no one else sees or talks about what they might have seen on it.” Veronica stated with confidence she didn’t feel.

“Promise?” The cheerleader asked with such pitiful hope in her voice that Veronica couldn’t bring herself to tell her the real odds for success.

“I promise.” Veronica responded, half-lying. She was fairly certain she could recover the computer, but as to the rest, it depended on who took it and why. She asked Brie a few more pertinent questions and didn’t get the answers that would make it easier for her.

The cheerleader had no enemies or rivals or feuds or disgruntled ex-boyfriends and to add insult to injury she sheepishly admitted that her locker hadn’t even been locked. She’d forgotten to lock it because she was late for cheerleading practice. Veronica accompanied Brie back to her locker to check out the scene of the crime. It was starting to look more like a random crime of opportunity which made things both easier and more difficult.

The last hope she had for an easy fix disappeared as she noted that there were no surveillance cameras near Brie’s locker. The only good news she’d got was that the computer was password protected, so it would take whoever had it some time to access what was on it.

She told Brie to relax and that she would be in touch as soon as she had some news. Her next port of call was the same person the authorities would have spoken to. If anything of value disappeared at Neptune High, Eli Navarro was the guy that ended up in the principal’s office first. Whether he was involved or not he would know where the laptop was or he’d be able to find out, with a little incentive of course. She didn’t, obviously, condone what he did, but she’d never admit it to him of course, but she did kind of respect him. An official looking out of order sign made sure she could turn one of the girl’s bathrooms into her private office and then she just loitered until Weevil and his entourage swaggered by on their way to the quad.

“Yo, Eli, I need to talk to you in private.” She greeted and informed him, grabbing his forearm and using the element of surprised to drag him into the bathroom.

“What the hell, Mars?” He growled at her indignantly as he pulled out of her grasp with anger flashing in his eyes while she kicked the wedge into place to block the door.

“I’m in the market for a laptop.” She told him, ignoring the glare he shot at her.

“Do I look like the Apple Store to you?” He shot back along with the glare.

“Yeah, like I can afford to pay retail, but moving right along. A certain someone had their laptop stolen from their locker and I would like to know who the thief is so that I can get it back for them and that way, you know, the authorities don’t have to get involved. You know what they’re like.” She explained with a hand on her hip and a challenging stare of her own.

“Ooooo, a certain someone… Real mysterious.” He commented and then his eyes narrowed speculatively before his face lit with a smug grin although his amusement didn’t reach his eyes. “Whose is it and what’s on it?” He asked and stepped forward into her personal space and in her face. He wasn’t stupid, he knew if she was involved it wasn’t just a simple property theft.

“That’s confidential.” She replied shortly.

“Oh, confidential, that changes everything.” He shot back sarcastically. “You drag me in here, accuse me and then threaten me, but it’s confidential, so that makes it alright, just who the fuck do you think you are?” He continued, his tone a low and menacing rumble, closing even more of the distance between them so that the breath carrying his words tickled her lips, his eyes hot with anger. Veronica tried to back up, but quickly found cool tiles against the back of her head.

“Look, Weevil, I’ll make it worth your while, no accusations or threats. I just need to know who has that laptop.” She changed tack. Their relationship was pretty much always antagonistic, but she had never felt anger like this from him or the answering fear that made her stomach flip. She was starting to reconsider her gung-ho strategy.

“Make it worth my while and us alone in a bathroom. Why, Veronica…” He commented in a low, smoky tone and she just barely caught the change in his eyes before all she could do was let out a surprised squeak as he reached up and cupped and squeezed her breast through her thin t-shirt and bra.

Her mind froze with shock, but her body reacted to his touch, her skin flushing with heat and her nipples hardening as he brazenly fondled her. Veronica blinked and finally opened her mouth to protest, her hand reach for her bag and the Taser it held, only to have his lips capture hers in a hot, hungry kiss.

Her eyes widened and her fingers clenched as her body stiffened and things low and deep inside her tightened. His lips plundered hers and her tongue wrestled with his out of self-defense. Her fingers were wrapped around the Taser, but it stayed in her bag as he kissed her and just when she started to kiss him back, he suddenly pulled back.

Veronica stared at him in shocked disbelief, breathing hard, her now-stiff nipples scraping and tingling against the cups of her bra as her chest heaved. She watched the tip of his tongue make a slow circuit of his lips. She could still feel and taste those lips on hers. “What the hell?” She asked softly when she could finally find her voice.

“You said it would be worth my while, Veronica, and it might just be. See you at my place this evening, say nine, a high school bathroom is not the place for what I have in mind. I’ll have this laptop you’re looking for and then we’ll see just what it’s worth to you.” Weevil told her by way of an answer and with a smirk and a swagger to his step, he kicked aside the door stop and left the bathroom.

She sagged against the cool tiles and finally let go of the Taser before she slid down the wall to sit leaning against it. “What the fuck just happened?” She asked herself. Weevil had assaulted her, didn’t he? And, she’d kind of liked it. Her nipples were still hard although her skin prickled with heat and as she unconsciously rubbed her legs together noted her panties were damp as evidence of that fact. He had asked her what the laptop was worth to her, not how much.

“Has the currency of our relationship suddenly changed?” She wondered and a shiver ran through her. What would he want and would she give it to him? Veronica sat and let the questions run around her mind until the door started to open and she all but jumped to her feet. She straightened her clothes as she walked out past the girl who was entering, not even bothering to retrieve her wedge.

Veronica went to her locker and using the open door as a shield tried to pull her head back together. She should just return Brie’s money and tell her she couldn’t get the laptop. Walk away and put all this behind her. She touched her lips as the memory of Weevil’s kiss returned.

“What the hell is wrong with you?!? It’s Weevil for God’s sake.” She admonished herself and slammed the locker door drawing strange looks from the passing students, which she studiously ignored. The rest of her school day was a blur and she was just grateful that none of her teachers had pulled a pop quiz on her. She got home to find a message from her dad that he had to go out of town on a skip trace and she absently scratched Backup behind the ears with a sigh.

“Not like he could help her with this particular quandary. No one can.” She muttered before heading to her room and throwing herself down on her bed.

Her thoughts kept whirling and she closed her eyes and threw her arm over them to put her in complete darkness. At some point, she must have fallen asleep because it was Backup’s wet nose and slobbery tongue that woke her and it was dark outside. She pushed the dog away and got to her feet and stretched. Veronica checked her watch; it was just before eight and so her dilemma still remained.

She could go to Brie and give up the case or go to Weevil’s and try and solve it. She fed Backup while she see-sawed back and forth between her two options. At eight thirty she grabbed her bag and went to her car, but just sat there after she got in. “I’ll go to Weevil’s and if it gets to hinky, I’ll split and then tell Brie it’s off.” She told the empty vehicle, not sure if she believed herself and started the car.

She sat outside Weevil’s place for another ten minutes, so it was a little after nine when she knocked on his door. Veronica had noticed a distinct lack of his posse with only his motorcycle parked in front of his house. “Hey, Mars. Welcome to my humble abode.” He greeted her and gestured for her to enter. She arched her eyebrow at him, but followed his gesture and walked in. She just stopped herself from jumping when he closed the door behind her with a soft, yet ominous thud. He wasn’t wearing a shirt and she couldn’t help but notice how well-defined his muscles were and how hard and masculine his body was with little islands of blue-black art on his dusky-bronze skin.

“Do you have what I’m looking for? She asked him, crossing her arms over her breasts defensively while looking everywhere but at him. His home was actually a semi-detached room next to his mom’s house which was quite spartan except for a sofa, a large flat screen and his unmade bed. “Yeah, I got what you’re looking for and a certain cheerleader’s laptop to boot,” He quipped as he non-chalantly leaned up against the door blocking her only way out.

“So, you know whose it is?” She enquired carefully, avoiding his eyes.

“Oh please,” He answered in a tone of disgust and she followed his hand as he made a show of locking the door. Veronica should have felt fear and she did in some form, but it was overridden by a sense of thrilling anticipation instead. “Make yourself at home, Mars. Kick off your shoes. Take off your jacket or anything else you might have a mind to and take a seat.” He suggested as he pushed away from the door frame.

“I’m not staying that long.” She countered levelly, but she did put her bag down on the sofa and he made an amused sound at the back of his throat.

“You ain’t leaving until I say so, Veronica.” He informed her in a low whisper, him using her full name sending a shiver down her spine as he walked passed her and casually sat on the edge of his bed. She turned to face him and leaned against the back of the sofa with a raised eyebrow and an “Oh Really” expression.

“Do you know what’s on it?” She asked, trying to ignore the way his eyes swept up and down her with speculative attention of the way that his was sitting put the bulge in the front of his jeans on display.

“No, but I bet it must be quite juicy for that blonde cheerleader to enlist your services.” He replied and held up his hand to stall her as she opened her mouth to speak. “And, no, the idiot freshman who nabbed it couldn’t get past the password either, but I have friends in low places, so if my curiosity happened to get the better of me, I suppose I could.” He continued, anticipating her next question and adding a none too subtle threat.

Veronica felt herself shifting nervously. The way he was looking at her was doing things to her body and as hard as she tried to keep her eyes on his face, she still saw that bulge in his jeans shift and grow. She swallowed heavily. “What do you want… For the laptop, Weevil?” She asked, not sure she wanted to hear the answer. He tilted his head to the side with a lopsided smile.

“What do you think I want, Veronica?” He asked and she watched as he reached down and adjusted the bulge in his pants. She stilled herself, realizing that she had been rubbing her thighs together and was hugging her breasts across her now, stiffening, tingling nipples. She licked her dry lips.

“I’ll give you one hundred and fifty bucks.” She offered deciding to put in some of her own money to sweeten the pot even though she was uncomfortably certain he wasn’t looking for cash. His smile turned smug as he shook his head as he got up off the bed and slowly walked over to her. He stopped so close to her the toes of his boots touched the toes of her sneakers, she could feel his breath against her face and she could smell the masculine musk of him. She wanted to shrink back, but there was nowhere to go, so she met his eyes as boldly as she could.

“What I want, Veronica Mars, is you. All of you. And just so there is no mistake, I mean that I want you naked in my bed for sex. I want to know what you taste like, what you smell like, what you feel like on my dick and what you sound like when you come.” He informed her and she jumped when he put his hands lightly on her arms, but she didn’t resist as he undid the hug she had them in and lowered then to her sides. Veronica’s pulse started to race as she stared into his intense gaze.

“It… It’s not even my laptop.” She breathed inexplicably defensively as his hand slipped from her arm and his other joined it at her waist. Veronica gasped as his fingers tightened and he pulled her off the back of the sofa and hard against him. His breath tickled her lips once again like it had in the bathroom earlier that day and she knew what was going to happen next, but she made no attempt to stop him.

She braced herself for the same forceful assault and was surprised when his lips lightly brushed across hers and then followed it up with a swipe of the tip of his tongue between them. She parted her lips with a soft moan and unconsciously tilted her head as he slowly deepened the kiss and his hands slid around behind her to cup her ass and hold her tight against the throbbing heat of him. Her wide eyes slowly relaxed as her breathing grew ragged as she kissed him back and this time he didn’t back off, nipping and sucking at her lips while their tongues fenced and wrestled, and his hands flexed to knead her ass and grind her against him.

Her core clenched and she felt a flood of slippery, liquid heat slither from it along with a flare of heated arousal along every inch of her skin while her nipples swelled to tight points as if she had stepped into a refrigerator. She blinked at him rapidly as he slowly broke the kiss whether more surprised by his tenderness or her reaction she could not say. Her chest was heaving once more and her clothes felt rough and uncomfortable against her skin.

“No.” She whispered with a slow shake of her head, yet she followed him as he released her ass and took her hand to draw her with him as he stepped back towards his bed. She had never been one to be ruled by teenage hormones, especially after what had happened to her, so she was surprised at her almost violent physical reaction of sexual desire.

“Yes.” He countered as he dropped her hand when he reached the bed and she shook her head to deny him. “The laptop’s right there in that backpack if that’s all you want.” He told her and her eyes followed the direction of his nod and then came back to his face.

“That’s… That’s all I came here for.” She said softly, but made no move to go for the backpack or to just turn around and leave.

“Just this once and no one ever needs to know. You’re as curious as I am, aren’t you?” He asked, but his tone made it a statement more than a question. She didn’t remember what happened to her at that party, she only knew she wasn’t a virgin after. Her curiosity wasn’t just about him, but the whole sex thing too, but he couldn’t know that.

“What are you doing, Veronica?” She asked herself and was shocked by the direct, crude answer her mind presented.
