"Mr. Pierson, we have an assignment for you, unlike anything you are used to dealing with," A stuffy British woman told him. They had a branch of Watchers in Britain, but none of the others knew what these Watchers did. Adam had a feeling that he was about to find out.
"Okay..." Adam Methos said carefully.
He had to protect his identity, he was the oldest known immortal. They hadn't a clue who he really was. Adam Pierson was a watcher.
"What do you know about...Vampires?" she asked expecting a shocked response. Adam Methos knew all about them, Adam Pierson was the one who laughed.
"This is Serious, Mr. Pierson," the woman said sternly, "This is important."
"Capes, bats, bloodsucking, shapeshifting..." he shrugged, "Why?"
"Were wrong about everything except the bloodsucking, follow me Mr. Pierson," She sounded annoyed and he couldn't suppress a smile.
The woman lead him into the basement, flipping on the light there was a huge room. All kinds of things set up, then he heard the growl. From the shadows something moved. She backed toward the door, but gestured towards a selection of weapons. "I'd grab one if I were you."
He looked over the many weapons and found to his delight a sword, not at all like his broadsword, this was a Long Sword. It would do. He looked back making sure to give the woman and unsure look. She was behind the door, but he could here her voice.
"It may look human, Adam, but it is not, though they carry all the memories and the likeness, even a darker version of their personality, they in fact are a demon reanimating a corpse...you must take decapitate it, or put a stake through his heart to kill it Adam."
"Cut off it's head...I..." he didn't get time to finish pretending that he hadn't a clue what he was doing. It jumped at him from the shadows, and Adam dropped back with the sword point up causing it to impale itself.
She was shouting to him that he wouldn't kill it by just stabbing it. Adam kicked it off of him and the sword. He tossed a glare at the woman. As the creature snarled in pain, he whirled around and easily cut off his head. For a second he paused. Almost expecting the lightening storm that normally came after, but anticlimactically he turned to dust.
Adam glared at the woman once more who struggled to unlock the heavy door to let him out.
"I must apologize for how quickly and unceremoniously I introduced you to our world, but you passed the test...with flying colors I might add," the woman looked at him suspiciously, "One would think that you had done that before."
"You don't spend time watching people behead each other and not learn a thing or two," Methos commented.
She snorted a bit, "Finding people is what you all are best at, that is why we recruited you. Now that you know about Vampires, Let me tell you about the Slayer, 'Into every generation a Slayer is born: one girl in all the world, a chosen one. She alone will wield the strength and skill to fight the vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness; to stop the spread of their evil and the swell of their numbers. She is the Slayer."
"So you all rely on a girl? To kill them, that's rich," Adam rolled his eyes, he knew about her of course, Methos knew many things.
"She is special, and at this branch of watchers, we train them, to fight, we educated them on demonology. We have no time to train you correctly, we hear you are well educated in martial arts that will have to suffice. We have books for you to study, Watchers Diaries, books on demonology, study them, on your way back to the states to find her. She's been active for two years and we can't find her.We know she is in the LA area but, she's homeless and very good at hiding, Victoria Creed is her name, a seer told us that much, and her general location, but..." she said her voice strained.
"So you want me to find a girl, and train her to fight things that you are giving me a crash course in? Fucking beautiful, when do I leave?" he snapped.
And that was how he got here, in his hotel room surrounded by piles of musty books. He wanted to try and learn a bit more than he did about demons before he found her. It had only been a few days but they were hassling him. After it took them two years. He sighed tossing the book down and stuffing money in his pocket. He made sure to have cash, he guessed he would have to bribe some homeless people into helping him.
