Chapter 1

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chloe found herself in her apartment above the Talon, a café in the small town of Smallville, Kansas at 1AM in the morning unable to sleep. She had tried everything she could think of to fall asleep, but sleep just wouldn’t come. She hadn’t been sleeping well much since she and Jimmy had gotten divorced, she had learned Davis Bloom a man she thought was a friend was really the other Kryptonian boy sent to Earth to destroy everything but especially her best friend and the destined hero of Earth, her friend Clark Kent. “God, I’ve almost lost him too many times to count…I don’t think I could handle really losing him...if he and Davis ever met in battle…I don’t know what I’d do? I like Davis, I feel for him and his lot in life, but….but Clark is…Clark, my Clark, the hero sent to us, to Earth, to me…”

As Chloe fought to reach sleep it just wouldn’t come. She fought endlessly for hours and hours, but sleep would not come. She had just sent Clark away saying she needed time and space to figure things out a few hours before and then spent almost two having dinner with Davis who had been hiding in the basement of the Talon. Afterwards she had taken the trash out and found blood all over her hands from one of Davis’s kills and begun crying.

~First part of Blame it on the Weatherman by B*Witched starts ~ She had been doing this for weeks and she just couldn’t handle it anymore. She cared for both. She didn’t want to have to choose between the two and that’s what she feared would happen if they ever met.

She would have to choose between the two, the man she had grown up with and watched grow into the hero she knew he always was even before she knew of his powers and the man she had just met a few months ago and felt an instant trust and friendship with.

She had pushed Clark away for good reasons; she was protecting him from Davis who was now invulnerable to everything. Even the one thing that could hurt and kill Clark if there was enough of it around, Green Kryptonite. Even though she sent him away all she had wanted to do as he watched her with his caring blue eyes and open heart, if only to her and his mother at the moment seeing as at this moment in time they were the only ones he was that truly open with, was hold him close and beg him to make all her problems go away. But she couldn’t, to protect him she had to keep her distance. Because if she did that it meant Davis and Clark would never have the run in she feared would make her lose one if not both of the two men she had come to care so much about. “maybe it was self-sacrificing maybe not, but she would do what little she could to protect the only man that had saved her in more ways than she could count, that would go on to save the world if he ever found the strength to embrace his destiny completely, yes he was and had been doing such good in their little area of the world for many years but he could do so much more and he hadn’t found the strength to step up that far yet.”

~Song ends ~

With a sigh she got out of bed and made herself a bath to soak in to try and relax so she could get some sleep hopefully. As she floated in the little haven she had made herself she found her eyes drooping so she climbed out of the bath and got back into her bed. Finally drifting off to the sleep her mind and body were so desperate for.
