Trained Killers

I'm just going to let you guys figure it out for yourself.

"It sucks," Kendra groaned.
Max looked over at her.

"What sucks?" She asked, slightly confused.
"I come home, it's 3:00 a.m.," She glared at Max, "You're still out. I feel like I got hit by a cement truck and you've been up for an hour bouncing around. That, by definition, sucks."
She handed Kendra a mug, feeling a bit sorry for her friend.

"I made you coffee," She told her, "That ought to help cope with the injustice of the world a little."
Kendra took a tentative sip, then sighed and smiled.

"Thanks," Kendra looked at Max, "It's starting to kick in. I feel almost human."
Max laughed and shook her head.

"Yeah," She agreed, "Me, too."
Just before Max turned to head to the door, there was a knock. Max cocked her head. The scent was familiar...very familiar. She walked slowly to the door and answered it before the next knock. There stood a 6' 3" brunette with familiar chocolate eyes.

"D?" She said in disbelief.
The man smiled.

"Hey, Maxie," He replied.
Max practically jumped 'D', hugging him tight. Kendra looked rather amused by the whole display, to tell the truth.

"Max?" She called, laughing internally at the deer-in-headlights look on her roomie's face.
Max loosened her hold on 'D'. Her arm was still around him and her head was still leaning on his shoulder.

"Kendra, this is Dwight," She said, feeling rather sheepish.
Dwight laughed and shook his head.

"I met Maxie when she was a little kid," He confessed, obviously omitting certain things.
Kendra nodded, cupping the warm mug in her hands.

"Theo's waiting for you," Kendra reminded Max, who practically dragged Dwight out the door.
--
Dwight McCarthy was glad to see the girl, that he had befriended when she was tiny, after so long. After all that shit that happened to him when he left Manticore at 17, and little Maxie...she still remembered him. He let the feline transgen drag him to this Theo's place.
--
"Knock, knock! Hey, guys."
"Hey!"
"Let's roll, hotshot."
"Thanks, babe."
Theo's wife nodded a silent greeting to Dwight, who returned the greeting with a smile.

"I'm going to have to take a personal day. I'm biting it bad."
"It's payday. Need me to pick up your check?"
"You're the best, Maxie."
"Come on, Little Bit. You going to be late for school. Three more bites."
"Two more."
"But big ones."
Theo had noticed Dwight and pressed Max to make introductions and she did. When they had reached Jam Pony, Dwight had wanted to shove his pistol down Maxie's bosses throat, but he kept that thought in his fantasies.
--
Herbal and OC noticed Dwight watching Max like a hawk.

"Who's that?" OC asked Max when she came up to them.
Max looked over at Dwight and flipped him off, Dwight only rolling his eyes and shaking his head in return.
