I

This fic is the result of a House episode where House himself is lying in a hospital bed, because he's electrocuted himself, copying a patient. Wilson pays him a visit and suddenly, out of nowhere, House says 'I love you'.
I couldn't believe what I'd just heard! I had to rewind it, and then, of course, write a fic about it.

He had begun calling it ‘an incident’ by now, because it couldn’t have been more than that. He still couldn’t believe it had happened, and blamed it on House’s state of mind at that moment: recovering from an electric shock, his palms burnt, his brain half asleep. He had tried not to think about it again, in conversation with House, let alone mention it. House had probably forgotten it.

Okay, he didn’t believe that himself. House never forgot anything, because he needed every single spoken word to use against you. Still, it didn’t make any sense. How could he have meant what he had told him? Was it simply the promise of more drugs?

He could still hear the exact way he had said it. In a soft tone. He probably only spoke that way when he had just opened his eyes in the morning, or when he was fascinated by some medical problem. Not when he was talking to him. Not when he was talking to anyone. Wilson closed his eyes. Maybe he had meant every word. All three of them. The biggest cliché, the climax of almost every movie story, the words everyone hopes to hear and say one day, and genuinely mean them.

His hands trembled, House’s file still in them. He hadn’t even tried to make him repeat himself. He’d heard him perfectly. He felt his tired, but still piercing eyes on him, waiting for him to answer his stare. He couldn’t do it. In a second, he thought all the things these words could mean. All the things he shouldn’t think and he knew it. Hands going through his hair, wet lips, whispers. And a second after that, his body responded to those things.

Oh my god, oh my god.
