I do not own the television series that this fanfiction is written for, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Prologue
Notes: This does contain RPS, and I do not expect Derek or Phil to act like this in any way. This was written without their permission, and purely just for my enjoyment. I wrote this because it was keeping me awake at night and it is a way to mentally purge it from my mind. Therefore I don't expect anyone to enjoy it. If you do, yay for me.
Abhorrence - a feeling of repugnance or loathing; one that is disgusting, loathsome, or repellent.
Phil had to hand it to Yvette; that woman was as stubborn as a mule when she made up her mind, and sometimes it was the team’s saving grace, but not now. He stared down at the open case file resting on the table but refused to read the words, as if that made Yvette’s decision any less real. He’d voiced his opinion, even knowing it wouldn’t change her mind. He left that up to Karl and Derek, when the two men arrived, along with the rest of the team. For now, he was left with Yvette glaring a hole in his forehead from her seat across the conference table.
His eyes inadvertently focused on the exposed page he was trying so hard not to look at. McCeigh Manor was one of the places he wished had been torn down, burned down, or otherwise didn’t exist. By nature, Phil was not a man to be frightened of anything, save full body apparitions, but he was quickly developing an aversion to houses that had a resident who was demonically possessed. The Manor had some very interesting history that Phil would have enjoyed reading about while sitting in a comfortable chair by the fireplace with a hot cup of tea on hand, but no, Yvette wanted to take that one step closer and actually investigate the bloody thing.
He jumped when the door opened. Derek and Karl entered the room followed by the rest of the team: Stuart, Richard, Kath, Tom, and the other members who would be attending the investigation. He avoided Derek as the man sat down next to him. He was dressed for what seemed like a funeral, black slacks, a black button down shirt, and a black blazer. A sliver tie was the only colour that adorned his outfit. He seemed tired, but then again, they all were, having just finished an investigation a few days earlier.
“On time as usual,” Yvette said, smiling. She was greeted with smiles in return, except from Phil, whose mood only got darker when she turned to him. “Phil, I think you should explain to the team where we’re going next.”
Phil pushed away from the table and stood up, closing the file and scowling. Without any humor, or any emotion at all, really, he said, “I hope none of you mind spending the night in a house haunted by demonic entities.” He saw the slack faces of the team around the table and his lips twitched in a smile. “I though not.”
He hoped his sarcasm was evident.
