Chapter 1
Rhonda slammed into the computer room and stomped over to Rhiannon
“Mr. Cowley wants to see you in his office immediately.” Rhonda snapped at her. The two girls had never particularly got along and Rhonda was in a filthy mood again. Great Rhiannon thought what now?
“Did he say what it was about?” She asked worried.
“No, The Great Poo Bah does not deem it necessary to explain himself to mere secretaries.” Rhonda replied sarcastically. She’d been warned before about her attitude.”
“You’d best watch it Rhonda. Mr. Cowley is OK.” Rhiannon had always quite liked the older Scotsman. He reminded her of an older Uncle or something.
“Yes well, I’m not one of his pets am I?” George was about to step in between the two girls but he waited.
“Mr. Cowley does not have pets as well you know. If you’d knuckle down and do what you should and spend less time and effort in flirting with the agents, he’d have nothing to reprimand you about. He’s a fair man if you treat him the same.” Rhiannon was sick of Rhonda knocking Mr. Cowley. He was tough but fair and played no favourites. George was surprised to find himself pleased by her comments. He did have people he favoured and Rhiannon was one of them, which was why he’d asked for her. George went back to his office to wait for Rhiannon. The knock on his door came about 10 minutes later.
“Come in.” he called at her knock. Rhiannon walked in looking apprehensive. It was not often that you were called in the big bosses’ office.
“Ah Rhiannon, take a seat. I need you to do me a favour.” George smiled at her.
“Yes Sir, what’s that?” Rhiannon was curious.
“I need a secretary for about 6 weeks and I’d like it to be you!”
“Me Sir,” Rhiannon was shocked “What happened to Betty?” Betty was Mr. Cowley’s regular secretary.
“Broken ankle and she’ll be away for at least 6 weeks. You come highly recommended. Will you stand in for Betty for the 6 weeks that I’ll need you? Rhiannon was amazed but pleased.
“Oh yes Sir, I’d be glad to.” Wow, chances to work with the big man himself.
“OK, there is some work on Betty’s desk; I’ll leave you to it.” Rhiannon stood to leave. “Oh and Rhiannon, I overheard what you said to Rhonda. Thank you, I’ll deal with that particular lady later.”
“That’s alright Sir. She’s just a bit of a flirt, nothing serious.” Rhiannon closed the door softly behind her and stood there grinning like a Cheshire cat.
Rhiannon walked back into her office with two cups of tea and could hear voices from Mr. Cowley’s office. She smiled when she recognised the voices, Bodie and Doyle. Probably the two biggest heart breakers in the whole of CI5. Ray Doyle was a cheeky flirt with a mop of unruly curls, gorgeous green eyes and a quick smile. He was a charmer and had no hesitation in using it to get his own way in the dating stakes. Then there was Bodie. No one knew his first name or if they did, they never used it. He was just Bodie. Smooth, sleek and very dangerous to any unsuspecting heart. He’d broken a few in his time and if she was not careful, Rhiannon’s would be one of them.
“Oh come on Sir, who is it?” Bodie asked from Cowley’s office. He knew that Betty had broken her ankle and someone was filling in for her and Bodie was curious as to whom.
“What is it to you Bodie?” Doyle was grinning as Bodie copped it from Cowley again.
“Well nothing really Sir but you know if I see someone strange prowling around the corridors then I’ll know where she belongs and I could bring her right on in for you, Sir.” It was a good excuse but that was all it was, an excuse.
“Not that it is any of your business Bodie but its Rhiannon from the secretaries’ pool.” You could see Bodie visibly brighten at that point of information and Doyle looked a little more interested.
“The beautiful redhead Sir? Bodie was definitely interested now.
“Just what is it to you Bodie whether she’s beautiful or not? So long as she can do her job?” Cowley loved to stir both these two. They attracted women like bees to a honey pot and with about as much effort. George could appreciate a beautiful woman as much as these two and had had many beautiful women in his time, not that either of these Romeos would believe it.
“Well Sir, I’d much rather look at a Monet then a Picasso.” Cowley was stunned that Bodie even knew the painters little known the difference in their works.
“Tea Sir.” Rhiannon walked into the room and ignored both Bodie and Doyle. The only way to keep your heart in tact with these two around.
“Ah thank you Rhiannon. I believe you know Bodie and Doyle.”
“Yes Sir, Hello boys.” In addition, she walked right out of the office again. Cowley nearly laughed aloud at the look on their faces. Obviously, they were not used to being ignored by beautiful women. Oh yes the next 6 weeks should be fun.
“Not very talkative is she?” Doyle grumbled to Bodie.
“No, she has a job to do and so do you so get out there and do it.” Cowley shooed them out of his office and sat back and enjoyed his tea. It was going to be fun watching those two try to impress the beautiful but unreachable Rhiannon.
“She’s one stunner.” Bodie was hunched down in his seat daydreaming about Rhiannon while Doyle drove. “What I’d like to do to her.” At Doyle’s snort he sat up straighter.
“What you snorting about. I've got just as much of a chance as you have.”
“OK you're on.” At Bodie’s puzzled look Doyle continued. “First one that gets a date with the beautiful Rhiannon – say 50 quid?” they often did this, bet who could woo a particular woman first.
“Righto, I hope you have the money ready my son because it will be a pleasure to take it from you.” Bodie was confident he could do it.
“Oh I’ve got the money but you won’t be getting it.” Ray’s smug grin told another story.
“Hello Darling, Cowley in?” Rhiannon looked up from her computer to see Ray’s smiling face beaming down on her. He was dressed to the nines, which was a change from old scruffy jeans and windcheater. He was out to impress, determined not to have to give Bodie 50 quid.
“He’s been waiting for you for 10 minutes, you’re late. Where’s your other half?”
“Here I am Darling, worried about me?” Bodie sauntered in wearing a suit and looking every inch the proper gentleman.
“Hardly, you two can worry about yourselves and you should be if you don’t get in there fast. Mr. Cowley is not in a good mood today.” That was an understatement. He’d been snappy and bad tempered all day.
“If you two have quite finished annoying my secretary would you kindly grace me with your presence?” Cowley demanded sarcastically from the door to his office. The look Bodie and Doyle shared spoke volumes. Were in it again. Rhiannon smiled.
“What do you know about babies Bodie?” At Cowley’s unexpected question both men choked on their whiskies.
“Not much Sir, just how to avoid making ‘em.” Bodie replied after he’d stoped choking and wiped his eyes. Doyle was not doing much better. Where had that question come from? With George Cowley, you just never knew.
“Doyle?” Cowley turned on him. Neither was getting off the hook.
“About the same Sir, why?” Doyle knew there had to be a reason for the question but had quite enjoyed watching Bodie’s reaction. You’d think Cowley had asked if they’d go prancing down Piccadilly naked.
“Yes well I know you are well versed in the theory side of babies Bodie now I want to see you with the results.” Bodie looked decidedly ill. Just what was the old man getting at?
“Huh.” was all that that came out of Bodie. Now he looked rather like a fish out of water. Doyle decided to try to get him off the hook.
“What are you getting at Sir?” this one had Doyle’s interest peaked and he was enjoying watching Bodie squirm. The way these two teased and annoyed and played practical jokes on each other you would not guess they were best mates.
“Babies or more particularly babies for sale. We’ve uncovered a huge racket at a major maternity hospital that is organising to take young girls babies and the selling them to rich families without children. The girls think that their child is going a legitimate adoption agency but in fact, they are being sold to the highest bidder. In most cases these girls are in the middle of labour and in no condition to make a decision but they are being pressured into signing the papers and as soon as the baby is delivered it’s taken away and in most cases the young mothers never even see the child. It’s sick, it’s repugnant and I want it stopped and it’s up to you two to do it.” George was pacing the room. The whole thing made his skin crawl.
“When was it discovered?” Bodie asked. He’d recovered from the initial shock and was revolted by the whole thing. He had no kid’s of his own and wanted to keep it that way but the thought of these kids never knowing his or her families. Quite a lot of women were of the opinion that Bodie didn’t have a heart but at the moment it was cracking at the thought of what those young girls must have gone through and then to find their child gone.
“About 5 months ago but we can’t get the ringleaders of the scheme and that is who I want and I want you to get them for me.” Cowley could feel his temper on the raise again just thinking about it. “Doyle, you’re going undercover at the hospital. You’ll be in the maternity wing where we think the girls are being coerced into signing these papers and hopefully will get one of them to talk. A couple who are in there now have changed their minds and the child has still been taken. As you can imagine it’s very emotional for all concerned so gently hey?” Cowley had a bombshell to drop on Bodie. “And you Bodie are about to become a father!” Bodie looked very nauseous.
“Must you phrase it like that Sir?” He implored. Doyle was very glad he had the snooping part of the job.
“We’ll put out feelers that you want to get a baby and see what eventuates. Rhiannon has made an appointment for you to see a Mrs. Fieldrich at the adoption agency. This is the cover for the sellers we believe.” Cowley pushed an envelope towards him and Bodie had a quick look inside.
“That’s a hell of a lot of money Sir, what’s it for?” The envelope contained ten thousand pounds.
“That’s the appointment fee. Without it, you don’t get in to see her. Tell her you want a white baby less than 2 months old. Boy or Girl I don’t care which. She will give you further instructions and you will probably have to wait until one comes up and then we will nab them.” Bodie could see the sense in this but there was only one problem as far as he could see.
“What about a wife Sir?” Cowley looked at him agog.
“What?”
“A wife, they are not going to bother with only one parent are they? I’ll need a woman to go with me. Makes sense don’t it?”
“Damn, damn, damn. I didn’t think of that. We’ll -” a knock on the door silenced Cowley’s tirade.
“Your tea Sir.” Rhiannon walked in and put Cowley’s tea on his desk as she did every afternoon at 3:00pm. She also put one in front of both Bodie and Doyle. All three men stared at her like she’d grown a second head.
“What?” She asked worriedly. All three were looking at her very strangely indeed.
“Ah Rhiannon. How have you enjoyed working up here?” It seemed like a strange question to be asking but she supposed it was Mr. Cowley’s business.
“Fine Sir. Betty’s back on Monday.” Rhiannon was feeling very uneasy about this. Not that Mr. Cowley had been hard to work with but usually he did not sit down to chitchat when he was obviously in the middle of a meeting.
“What do you know about babies Rhiannon?” Mr. Cowley asked softly.
“Oh heaps Sir. I have tones of nieces and nephews. They are so cute when they’re little, but they grow up.” Rhiannon stopped, suddenly suspicious “Why Sir?” She asked. What sort of question was that from your boss?
“Wonderful, you and Bodie are about to have one!”
“Excuse me!” Rhiannon demanded eyes wide. She was shocked “There is nothing going on between myself and Bodie Sir, regardless of what he may wish.” Rhiannon was hurt that Mr. Cowley thought so little of her.
“No Rhiannon, it’s nothing like that and I know there’s nothing going on. We need someone to act as Bodie’s wife to crack a baby selling operation.”
“There’s an oxymoron if I ever heard one.” Doyle mumbled to himself just loud enough for Bodie to hear. He cast Ray a telling glare.
“But Sir, I’m just a secretary.” Rhiannon was extremely nervous about this. It would not have been quite so unnerving if it had been Doyle. Rhiannon quite liked him but Bodie was a different matter – she liked him altogether too much.
“You’re not just an anything Rhiannon and we only need to you to go to the interview with him. As Bodie just pointed out, they won’t see you with only one prospective parent; we’ll need two people to attend. I’d consider it a personal favours it you’d help us out. And I personally guarantee that Mr. Bodie here will behave himself.” Cowley shot Bodie a warning glare and Bodie tried looking innocent. Rhiannon felt trapped. She knew she could say no but felt like she would be letting Mr. Cowley down and he had been good to her in the 6 weeks that she’d been working for him.
“OK. You make it very hard to say no Sir. What do I have to do?” All three men looked relieved. So they should be, they were used to this, Rhiannon wasn’t.
“Just as we mentioned earlier, act as Bodie’s wife. You just need to go to the interview with him and act, I don’t know wifely.”
“Yer you know, whinge, bitch, complain. The usual.” Rhiannon cast Bodie a quizzical expression.
“Oh.” She asked innocently “this is the voice of experience speaking is it?” Doyle had to hide his laughter; she was going to give it to him good and proper.
“Yer well, you know.”
“No Bodie, I don’t.” Rhiannon interrupted. “Why don’t you enlighten me? After all I want to make sure I live up to your high expectations don’t I?” She was being deliberately sarcastic. Bodie was about to reply when Cowley interrupted them.
“Now, now children. You’re supposed to be newly married not a cranky old couple.” Cowley was enjoying himself. “When did you make the appointment for Rhiannon?”
“It’s next Thursday at 2:30 with a Mrs. Fieldrich at the adoption agency.” She replied. Oh how do I get myself into these predicaments she wondered to herself? The one man in the whole of CI5 she’d been trying to avoid and now she was stuck pretending to be his wife of all things. As if anyone would believe it, she thought. Bodie was a playboy and having far too much fun to be committed to any one person for very long. The whole of the secretaries’ pool knew of the escapades of these two. More than one of the girls had had her heart broken by either or both of them.
“If you don’t wipe that smirk off your face then I’ll do it for you.” Doyle grumbled a while later. Bodie just kept grinning at him. “Of all the bloody women Cowley had to pick from he had to pick Rhiannon. This does not count as a date you know. A set up is what it is.” Doyle was not at all happy about it. They were in the canteen grabbing a quick cuppa and Doyle was still bitching about it.
“Do not fret my son. You can have free access to my address book.” Bodie was still crowing about it. He was feeling generous.
“Yer right.” Doyle was still glum about it. “I get to play snoop and you get to play husband with a beauty like Rhiannon. Knowing my luck I’d get Rhonda.” Bodie choked on his tea. It was an unpleasant thought all right. Rhonda was a pretty girl until she opened her mouth but her surly disposition and foul mouth put most men off. She’d tried in on with both of them and it was not something either wanted to repeat. She was a very unpleasant person to be around for too long.
A few days later Rhiannon and Betty where chatting in their office. Cowley was out and not likely to be back and their work was nearly all done. The two girls had always got along, it was actually Betty that had recommended Rhiannon for the job in the secretaries’ pool and was pleased to see she’d gotten the job as her fill in while she’d be away.
“I don’t know how I get myself into these things. Bodie of all men. Ray I would not have minded so much, he’s much less dangerous.” Rhiannon was not looking forward to Thursday. She could keep her cool around Bodie for a few minutes that he usually stopped to talk but this would be for at least an hour.
“You’ll be fine. Don’t worry about it so much. Bodie can be quite charming when he wants to be and he likes you.” Betty was convinced.
“Of course he does, Bodie likes anything in a skirt.” Rhiannon did not consider herself beautiful but she was. A slim figure, auburn hair, which she kept up at work but fell well past her shoulders and emerald eyes.
“Oh come on Rhiannon. You’re just nervous. It will be fine. You’ll go to the interview, get a baby and Cowley and Doyle will close in and bingo, it will all be over.” Betty tried to calm her nerves. It was not working.
“Afternoon girls. Hard at work I see.” Bodie walked in followed closely by Doyle.
“Glad to see you back Darling. Hows the ankle?” Ray perched on the edge of Betty’s desk and tried to peer at her legs. Rhiannon hid a smile behind her cup oh subtle Ray, subtle she thought.
“Fine thank you. Did you two boys had some reason to come in here or was it just to annoy us?” Betty was not about to let them get away with anything.
“No we had a reason. This is for you Gorgeous.” Bodie put a small gift-wrapped box in front of Rhiannon.
“What is it?” It looked suspiciously like a jeweller’s box.
“Open it and you’ll find out!” Slowly Rhiannon pulled on the sheer gold ribbon that was tied around the box. It was so pretty an almost a shame to open it. Slowly she lifted the lid.
“Oh my God.” She gasped. Betty came over to have a look over her shoulder. Her sharp intake of breath was enough. Inside the box were the most beautiful diamond rings either girl had ever seen. One was about a carat solitaire with smaller diamonds embedded in the band and a matching diamond wedding band to match it. Together the effect was stunning.
“Oh its gorgeous but why?” shocked emerald eyes meet Bodie’s amused blue ones. Gotcha he thought. She might try to hide it but the rings impressed her.
“Well we can’t very well play at being married without rings. It would look a bit strange.” He held up his left hand and was wearing a gold wedding ring. It still felt decidedly strange too.
“Yer and he had to turn down an invitation from the sales girl.” Ray still found it hilarious.
“Shut up Doyle.” Bodie growled.
“No, tell us Ray. Go on.” Betty put a hand lightly on his forearm and glanced up at him from under her lashes and Ray was a goner. Any man who was human would have confessed anything with that look and well Betty knew it.
“Well the girl in the jeweller was doing a great chat up line and he had to turn her down flat. I mean he’s so in love with his darling fiancée and he could not possibly imagine cheating on her.” Ray was edging around the side of Betty’s desk as Bodie stalked him.
“You’ve got a big mouth Doyle, you know that.” He was stalking Doyle around the office.
“Oh leave him alone Bodie.” Rhiannon put her hand on Bodie’s arm to stop him chasing Doyle. They both felt a spark of electricity.
“Go on then, try it on for size.” Bodie handed her the box. He wanted to see what it would look like on. Lord knew it had cost him enough.
“Shouldn’t you be doing that for her, you know down on bended knee, proclaiming your undying love and all that stuff.” Doyle was smart; he was hiding behind Betty. He loved ribbing Bodie and this was going to get a good long work out. Bodie buying engagement and wedding rings.
“You’ll be down on your knees when I knock your block off in a minute.” Bodie threatened. Rhiannon laughed at the carrying on of these two and it was a pleasant sound.
“Leave him alone Ray, I don’t want to be getting blood out of the carpet thanks.” She picked up the box again. Bodie was pleased to see she was fascinated with the rings.
Bodie took the box off her, slipped the rings out and picked up her left hand.
“With this ring, I thee wed.” he mumbled just loud enough for Rhiannon to hear and slipped the rings onto her fourth finger. They fitted perfectly and looked stunning together. She looked up at him startled and Bodie noted her eyes were a bit teary. Shame its all in the name of my bloody job Bodie found himself thinking and was immediately surprised. He’d dated plenty of beautiful women before but Rhiannon touched him somehow and there were precious few people that could claim that.
“How about having dinner with me?” Bodie asked her softly. He had not let go of her left hand and the diamonds sparkled in the light. Slowly Rhiannon nodded. It was probably madness but that had just been the proposal she’d always dreamt about come true, shame it was not real but beggars could not be choosers.
“This does not count as a date you know.” Doyle was sprawled on Bodie’s bed watching him get ready while he stood at the bathroom vanity and shaved. “Vain beast.” Ray mumbled to himself loud enough that Bodie heard him. Bodie just winked at him and kept shaving. It felt good to be clean again. Sitting in a car all day was not a fun way to spend the day especially when you came home sticky and sweaty.
“Course it does. I asked her to dinner, she accepted. That’s the classification of a date Doyle, in case you’ve forgotten.” He wiped the foam off his face and walked over to the bed.
“Where are you taking her?”
“Renaldo’s” Bodie answered and Doyle’s eyes nearly popped out of his head.
“You’re kidding aren’t you? Have you got any idea how expensive that bloody place is?” They’d done an obs from in there once at the place across the street and out of sheer boredom Doyle had picked up the menu and had a glance. He’d been to some classy restaurants in his time but he had no Idea that food could cost that much. The wine prices were not to be believed.
“Of course I do. I can just feel that it will be worth it.” Bodie dropped the towel on the bed and stepped into his pants.
“Smug bastard.” Doyle mumbled. Bodie was pulling out all stops.
“Lucky smug bastard.” He corrected as he finished doing up his tie.
“A bloody suit of all things. She’ll laugh at you, you do know that don’t you!” Ray was still steaming about this. Bodie always seemed to get the good-looking birds. And Ray had to admit that when he put in the effort the effect was stunning. Bodie was good looking, even Ray would admit to that fact but standing there in a bloody suit, that was actually made for him and not some shop bought thing. God help the women of London he thought they don’t know what’s about to be let loose on em.
“When are you picking her up?” Ray asked as Bodie slipped on the suit jacket and slipped his wallet in the pocket.
“About now.” And the doorbell sounded. Bodie shot Doyle a smug grin and walked out of the bedroom. Doyle got up to follow.
“She’s picking you up?”
“Yep, that’s right. Said it was easier so I didn’t argue.” Bodie pulled the door open and both men stood there with their mouths open staring.
Rhiannon cautiously walked into Bodie’s flat Welcome to my parlour said the spider to the fly she thought to herself and smiled. “Wow!” she exclaimed in delight. “You look fabulous. Hi Ray.” Bodie and Doyle were pretty stunned themselves. “Wow yourself” Bodie wolf whistled at her. Rhiannon had on the proverbial little black dress with her shoulders and back bared to the night air, sheer hosiery and stiletto heels. In them, she was much more Bodie’s height. At work, she always wore flatties or lower heels and Bodie always seemed to tower over her. She knew from sneaking a look at his file that he was 5 foot 11 inches tall.
“Where are we going?” Rhiannon asked curious. “Am I dressed OK?”
“Oh Yeah, you look great.” Bodie was suitably impressed which was what she’d hoped for. “And it’s a surprise, see ya later Ray. Lock up when you go!” Bodie put a hand on Rhiannon’s back and guided her out of the door. They had a wonderful night and it ended far too soon Rhiannon thought until she looked at her watch and realised that it was nearly 2:00 am. The food was superb, the wine magnificent but both paled in comparison to the man across the table from her. Rhiannon knew her heart was in serious trouble with this kind of attention. They had gone onto a nightclub and spend the night dancing and cuddling. Bodie was a terrific kisser.
“How about a nightcap?” Bodie dangled his flat keys at her and smiled a wolfish grin. Rhiannon knew she shouldn’t but found herself saying yes. Bodie took her hand and led her up to his flat and inside. He turned on some table lamps giving the flat a warm cosy glow and brought Rhiannon a glass of white wine he’d sent Ray for out earlier. Ray knew more about that stuff than Bodie did. He’d slipped out of the jacket and undid the tie and the top two buttons on his shirt. “Music?” At Rhiannon’s nod, he put some soft jazz on. Something else he’d borrowed from Doyle. His own tastes ran more towards rock and roll but it was not exactly conductive to a romantic atmosphere so jazz it was. They sat there just listening to the music for a while until Bodie took Rhiannon’s hand and kissed the back of her fingers. He noticed she was still wearing the diamond rings. God I wish I’d put them there for real he found himself thinking. In all the women he’d been out with, and there had been a few none of them ever even remotely prised a proposal from him and here he was wishing it was real after knowing Rhiannon only a few months and this was their first date. Very strange he thought.
“Dance with me?” He queried softly. Rhiannon was entranced. Bodie had this heavy lidded, sexy pout going on and she was hooked. He gently pulled her up and slowly they started to sway to the music. Rhiannon looped her arms around Bodie’s neck and he puller her even closer. She could feel the muscles in his body move as he danced. Oh God help me, he’s so sexy. She laid her head on his shoulder as the continued to dance. The music stopped suddenly and the both just stood there gazing at each other. Rhiannon knew if he pushed about them going to bed together tonight she would not have been able to say no.
Bodie gently cradled her chin in his hands and ran his thumps over her cheeks and lips. “God you are so very beautiful” Bodie mumbled and kissed her. Rhiannon felt her knees go weak. He hauled her closer to his body and Rhiannon could feel his very obvious reaction to her. Long and thick it pressed into her stomach and made her dizzy with desire. Now she knew why he was so popular with the ladies. Oh sure he’d break your heart but you had such a good time while he was doing it, it hardly seemed to matter.
Rhiannon made up her mind. She wanted him and it was obvious that Bodie wanted her as well and as they were both consenting adults it was no one else’s business but theirs if they spend the remainder of the night, or morning as the case may be, in bed.
“Which way to your room?” Rhiannon whispered when Bodie finally stopped kissing her. He looked at her puzzled. “Which one is your bedroom?” she repeated and smiled at him. An open, sexy smile leaving Bodie in no doubt what she wanted? He was totally stupefied. “Huh?” was all Rhiannon got out of him. There were only three doors that led off the living area and she already knew which one was the bathroom so it was a 50/50 guess as to which was his room.
Rhiannon took hold of Bodie’s hand and led him down the short hall to the open door. She guessed right, it was his room. The curtains were still open and moon beams streamed into the room and across the bed. It was a big bed with a dark quilt on it. All neat and tidy but not for much longer she thought smugly. Bodie had discarded the tie and jacket earlier so Rhiannon slowly and carefully started to undo the rest of his shirt buttons. Bodie just stood there, arms by his sides and let her. She pulled the shirt out of his trousers and let it hang open. Rhiannon reached out to touch him but Bodie stopped her. She looked up stunned. A sexy smile curved his lips.
“My turn” he slowly slid his hands up her arms, Rhiannon could feel the calluses on his hands as they ran up over her shoulders until they rested on the hook of her dress. Leaning over to gently kiss her Bodie undid the halter neck and it fell free, exposing Rhiannon’s breasts to the night air. Immediately her nipples puckered in the chill. Warm callused hands caressed her breasts and nipples slowly as he kissed her. Rhiannon slipped a hand down and teased Bodie through his trousers, he moaned appreciatively. God, he’s big was the only sane thought in Rhiannon’s head at the moment. She was too busy feeling.
Bodie gently lowered her onto the bed and pulled the rest of her dress off leaving Rhiannon clad in only pearls, pantyhose and heels. Bodie was stunned. She was so beautiful and laid out before him like some kind of sacrifice. Some sacrifice he thought as he laid down beside her. They were both in a haze of sensation when simultaneously both his R/T and doorbell sounded “damn it to hell.” He mumbled and tried to ignore it. Who ever it was was damn persistent and Bodie had a damn good idea who it would be. “Piss off Doyle.” He mumbled and kissed Rhiannon again. The doorbell and R/T continued to make a raucous in the early morning. Bodie could hear Ray through the door. “I’m coming in.” Doyle yelled in warning. Bodie gave up.
“He’s not going to go away Darling. Sorry.” Bodie levered himself off the bed and left, carefully pulling the door closed behind him so Rhiannon could get dressed. She flopped back on the bed with a frustrated sigh.
“Just what the bloody hell do you want in the middle of the flaming night Doyle?” Were the first words Doyle heard from his extremely pissed off partner as the door was ripped just about off its hinges with the force of it being opened. Bodie was not a happy man at the moment. He was dishevelled, half-undressed and still very aroused and didn’t want to be facing his damn partner.
“Sorry Sunshine, Cowley wants us in pronto." Doyle did not sound at all repentant. Bodie wondered off leaving Doyle to follow mumbling to himself and none of it was in any way pleasant. There were some very disparaging comments about his parentage in there.
“Will you stop glaring at me Bodie.” Cowley snapped at him and Bodie glared right back. He was still pissed off.
“Sorry Sir.” He mumbled
“Like hell you are!” Cowley growled right back. “Its not the first time I’ve dragged you out of bed at some ungodly hour and it won’t be the last.”
“He’d not got to bed yet.” Doyle mumbled just loud enough for Cowley to hear him. A beaming smile crossed his features.
“Och now laddie, missing out on your beauty sleep again? And who was the lady in question?”
“Rhiannon.” Doyle supplied gleefully while Bodie glared at him. Oh if looks could kill. Cowley actually laughed out loud. “I should have known, give you an inch Bodie and you’ll take a mile.”
“Huh?” It was still too early to keep up with the teasing this morning.
“I told you to act married and you had to take it seriously. The ring is a nice touch though, careful you might get used to wearing it.” Bodie took another sip of his coffee and sighed. It was going to be a bloody long day.
“I’m quite sure you didn’t drag me in at 4:00 in the damn morning to analyse my love life Sir so what did you actually want?” it was as close to a demand that Bodie would make.
“Sorry Laddie, just teasing.” Bodie and Doyle both knew that Cowley must have been even tireder than them. He never called them laddie unless he had been drinking or tired. “The you young nurse that alerted us to the baby ring has been found badly beaten and left for dead but she’s stubborn and hung on till she was found. For her own protection, she was taken to another hospital. Now that she has regained consciousness, I want you go to and talk to her. She knows more than anyone else does and we need more information before we can go in. The appointment is only two days away. This has to be stopped and fast. Who knows how many more children will be stolen away and girls’ lives destroyed all for the almighty pound. Damn it.” Cowley was getting heated up again. They discussed some of the more mundane details of the case and slowly HQ came alive. It was still only just 7:00am.
“Go and have a cuppa and freshen up. You’ll feel better then. Let me know what you find out.” Both got up and wandered out of the room to the VIP lounge.
Bodie was sprawled over the lounge with his eyes closed and one arm thrown across them to block out the light. He could hear Doyle making a cuppa and chuckling away to himself but Bodie was far too tired to care.
“Here get that in ya.” Doyle put a cup of tea and some toast in front of Bodie and nudged him awake. One bleary eye looked up at him and Doyle chuckled to himself again. “Come on Sunshine wakie, wakie.” Wearily Bodie swung his legs around and sat up. Doyle’s cheerfulness was really getting on his nerves.
“Doyle!”
“Hmm.”
“Shut up.” Doyle grabbed a piece of toast and Bodie slapped him on the wrist for it. Slowly he was coming awake. They finished their breakfast in silence.
“Come on, let’s go and see the nurse.” Bodie rinsed out the cups and put them on the drain board and followed Doyle out.
“You drive, I’m too buggered.” He threw Doyle the keys and promptly fell asleep on the drive to the hospital. Something Doyle wished he could do.
“Rhiannon, Hoi Rhiannon?” Rhiannon jumped startled and looked up at George Cowley. He’d obviously been calling her for a while.
“Sorry Sir.” Rhiannon just could not concentrate on work today. “Miles away, what did you want?” Rhiannon was tired from last night.” She should know better then to date on a weeknight.
“Just some files I need, a walk might wake you up. Off you go.” Mr. Cowley handed her a list of files and walked back into his office.
“Do you get the idea he knows more than he’s letting on Betty?” Rhiannon asked her friend.
“I’d be surprised if he didn’t. You aren’t awake at all today are you? Any particular reason why?” Rhiannon could feel herself blushing at the comment.
“Yes and I’ll tell you about it when I get back.” Rhiannon picked up the list and walked out of the office.
