A Little Piece of Heaven
Pairing: Grissom/Sara
Rating: NC-17 for adult themes and adult fun
Spoilers: None
Summary: Ecklie is in fine form as he continues to try to keep our star-crossed couple apart. This story is part of my Point/Trip AU. Timeline is sometime after Grissom has returned to the lab but before the wedding. How does Sara keep her loneliness at bay when she is away on a trip?
A/N: No bugmen were permanently hurt or mutilated during the writing of this fiction.
Disclaimer: Still not Bill Gates so still do not own anything associated with CSI, Alliance Atlantic Prod., JB, CBS or whatever. Sigh. I do not own nor make money off any of the characters of CSI. These rights belong to CBS, Alliance Atlantis and Zuiker, Les Moonves and Jerry Brukheimer.

Chapter 1: A Little Piece of Heaven
Grissom had finally returned to the CSI lab on a part time basis after almost a year long recovery. He still taught part time at the Gilbert College for the Deaf and continued his participation with the college swim teams as an assistant coach. But now that he was back at the lab, even part time, Ecklie felt the constant irritation of his reappearance.
Ecklie had failed in his campaign to have Grissom retire early. The issue became moot after the big splash that Grissom had on CNN on National Police Day. After all the good PR for the lab, the Director and the Mayor couldn’t do enough to smooth the transition back, Cath was made temporary supervisor of night shift until he returned. At that point she was promised a shot at day shift supervisor.
But Ecklie figured out a stratagem that worked for him. Trips. He had carefully mapped out a campaign that would put Sara on the road for a least a week every month and two if he could manage it and the budget allowed. Maybe it would put a severe crimp in their relationship. He would have sent Grissom on the road; but the budget wouldn’t allow for it and conferences weren’t allowed for people working part time.
In the past, Grissom had taken these trips; but as the most senior CSI after Catherine Willows, who couldn’t be spared, Ecklie felt it only right and proper that Ms. Sidle should be tasked to attend these conferences.
~~ Earlier that morning – Two hours before the end of shift ~~
“Ecklie…I could…”
“Gil, don’t let him get to you. That would please him no end. Someone from the lab has to go. He’s just doing this to harass us.”
“Will we still be able to go to breakfast?”
“Yes that’s why I brought my suitcase here this morning. We can have our meal then I will come back to pick up my bag and you can drive me to the airport and then you can go home. You are only supposed to work four hours. Let me double check to see if I have everything.”
She put the smaller suitcase on Grissom’s desk and unzipped it. She wrote a note to herself to pick up some of Grissom’s slides and stuck it to the top of the suitcase, leaving the bag unzipped. Sara and Gil walked arm in arm out of the lab to breakfast at their favorite diner, Joe’s, one of the few places in Vegas that served egg coffee.

Catherine looked into Grissom’s office. Until a few days ago, she had been using it. Now she needed some files that she had neatly stacked on the corner of the desk only two days ago. [How does he do it...back only two days and this desk is already chaos…where are those damn files…]As she peered under papers and file folders, the small suitcase balanced precariously before began to slide and finally fell with a small thud to the floor. [Damn…that must be Sara’s suitcase…I hope nothing broke.]
She found the files she was looking for and put them on the couch. Then she bent over to pick up the small case. As she was lifting it up, several items fell out from the unzipped side. One in particular caught her attention because it bounced. Her curiosity thoroughly aroused she looked more closely. The object, whatever it was, was covered in a dark royal blue velvet bag with a gold drawstring. It was over a foot long. Cath picked it up and ran her fingers over the gold embroidery on one side. [Grissomonius Veretrum…what the hell is that…Latin?]
