Greg had gotten a page from Grissom that he needed to see him. He groaned knowing that The last thing he needed was another person yelling at him, let alone it be Grissom.
"Great. Another person to jump down my throat." He said loudly as Sara walked in.
"Bad day Greggo?" she asked as she stood next to him.
"Bad day wouldn't do it justice!" he said aggrivated. "As soon as I walked in I had Ecklie yelling at me for something dayshift screwed up, now Grissom is prolly gonna yell at me for something." Sara giggled. "I'm so glad you find this funny."
"Grissom isn't going to yell at you. He wants you to come on assignment with us today. Tangiers, B&E."
"Cool. Be there in a sec. Let me grab my kit." Sara nodded.
"Meet me by Griss' office." Sara walked out and left Greg to his own devices.
"But wait I haven't found anyone to fill for me yet!" he said to a now empty lab. No one that he looked at was worthy enough. He knew that Grissom had pride in knowing his shift was the best.
Hannah walked into the lab in search of Director Carvello. This was her first day and she was excited. In all of her excitement she didn't notice a young man running until it was too late and he rammed into her.
"How about paying attention and stop daydreaming." Greg spat out.
"How about you check that attitude back at the door and try again son?" Hannah wasn't one to back down. She saw movement out of the corner of her eye and got distracted from the annoyingly dressed boy infront of her. Looking past Greg into one of the labs she saw the most comforting sight in years. She walked right past Greg forgetting all about her ealier spat and stood in the doorway watching the man work with his latest bug display.
"You'll never grow up will you?" She asked outloud, hoping he would remember. That it hadn't been so long ago that she had seen Grissom last. He turned around knowing it could only be one person. His heart sighed at the sight of Hannah standing in the doorway to the lab.
"I'll still be playing with bugs until I'm 90 years old." She walked slowly toward him until they clung to each other in a long overdue embrace.
"I missed you so much!" Tears were forming in her eyes.
"Me too sweetie. Me too."
It had been years since he had seen let alone spoken to Hannah. According to her father, Grissom was only an old man trying to get his jollies from a young girl. She never liked her father anyway.
"What would your father say about you being here?"
"Dad is gone. And as for mom she doesn't care. Wasn't as parinoid as dad was."
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be. I'm over it." ~Liar Liar!~ Hannah yelled at herself.
"I have a case I need to go to, but we will talk later ok?" She nodded not being able to form words. "Greg, Sara, shall we?" Hannah watched the boy called Greg walk by and glared at him as he rolled his eyes and walked away.
"Leave your number with Judy at the desk so I can call you later?" Hannah nodded again. This was classic. Grissom didn't know she was here for the open position for DNA lab tech.
"Hannah Malone?" She turned to find the director standing a few feet behind her.
"Yes. Director Carvello I presume?"
"Yes. Shall we?" He pointed to His Office and they made their way.
The meeting were going very nicely and needless to say the Director was quite impressed with her.
"Now just to clear up a few things. We do allow a very relaxed dress code but nothing too extravegant." he smiled, she got the meaning behind his words. She did look kinda odd walking into an interview wearing all black and dressed kind of tomboyish.
"Believe me when I say that nothing in my wardrobe will ever hinder me from doing my job and doing it well. I only came dressed like this to warn off eager young men, if you know what I mean. Its not safe anymore, so I do what I can." The Director nodded.
"Understood. Now everything you need is taken care off I assume?"
"I just need to make a few adjustments to the lab and I have a question."
"Yes?"
"What about office relationships?"
"Ah. Good question. Well they aren't exactly encouraged but, I do tend to over look them as long as it is kept underwraps. Now what kind of adjustments are we talking about here?"
"Well I really hate people coming up behind me and when I am working. I get really engrossed in what I'm doing and don't notice when people walk in. I just need to make a switch that will flicker the lights when someone walks into the lab, so I am warned and don't raise holy hell because someone scared me." the Director nodded and gave her the go ahead to do what she had to do. She stopped by the desk and asked for Judy. A sweet girl walked up and introduced herself.
"I'm Judy. Can I help you?"
"Yes. My name is Hannah Malone. I need to leave my number and address for Gil Grissom. I'm sure you will make sure he gets this so there is no need to tell you how to do your job." Judy smiled.
"I will put it on my priority list."
"Thank you so much Judy. Hope to see you more often. Your cute." Judy smiled and blushed.
"Thanks I guess." Judy wasnt used to getting compliments from women. Hannah walked back out to her truck and hopped in. Now she had to go find her appartment just to make sure the movers didn't jack up her stuff.Pulling up into the parking lot of the apartment area Hannah noticed most folks were leaving for work.
"You look lost youngin'." Hannah turned toward the voice and laughed inwardly. Every complex she ever lived in had an older couple always looking after her. She found this one to be no different.
"Just moved here. Looking for my apartment. Could you tell me where 3a is?" The older lady smiled and walked out into the parking lot and stood beside Hannah.
"3a would be on the top floor youngin'. My name is Maddie Lynn Johnson. you can just call me Maddie."
"Thank you Maddie. I'm Hannah Malone."
"It's so nice that you are moving in Youngin'. Maybe you and that nice girl Sara can become friends."
"Maddie, I don't make very many friends. Working night shift will put a damper on anyone's social life."
"You two would fit just fine, Youngin'. Sara works the night shift too.Not that I dont love having a good time but we both know I can't keep up for much longer." Hannah reached her door just as the movers were pulling up.
"Well, If I do get in touch with her, then remember your always one of the girls." Maddie smiled and laughed.
"I'm gonna like you youngin'." Maddie hugged her and walked away.
Hannah stood watching the truck pull up, sighing.
Sara went to the DNA Lab and noticed that it was closed off. "For repairs?" She thought outloud. "What did Sanders do now?"
"I didn't do anything this time." Greg said in a mock wine coming up behind her. "I just finished logging everything in. I'm dead tired so I'll start tommorow."
"Your in a better mood."
"Yeah, just woke up in a bad mood. Except when I bump into this butch in the hallway. Man she was a real . . " He turned to see Grissom standing behind him when he noticed Sara's attention wasn't on him anymore.
"Greg." it was Grissom's look that chilled Greg. He knew he had to stop.
"Sorry Griss. Look, can you explain to me why my lab is closed down?"
"For repairs. That is all I have been told. The temp lab is down the hall." Greg nodded with a saddened look and walked into the breakroom.
"I'll be in with Bobbie to check in on my other case." Sara touched Grissom's shoulder and left. Grissom walked into the breakroom and sat on the arm of the couch watching Greg sulk.
"I've failed Grissom."
"At what Greg?" Greg let out a long sigh.
"I couldn't find anyone to take my place. I'll be stuck in the lab for the rest of my life." Grissom shook his head when Greg looked up at him and proceeded to explain.
"I appriciate your efforts but someone has already applied for the job. Carvello hired them today." Greg perked up.
"So this means . . "
"When you pass your final test you can . ." Grissom never finished his sentence. Greg pounced on him and hugged him fiercely. Grissom politely pushed him off and straightened out his jacket. "I just got one question. Who is it?"
"You know for once I don't know. I was told they are keeping this hush, because they are really good and someone might snatch them up." Grissom shrugged and walked out of the room with Greg. "Go home Greg." He nodded and began to walk away only to turn back to face Grissom once more.
"Thanks Grissom."
The next day was a busy one and Hannah knew it best to get in early and get a head start. She was busy talking to the swing shift DNA tech when she noticed out of the corner of her eye Grissom walked by. She wanted to run after him but thought it best not to so she continued talking until she noticed him back tracking and walking into the lab.
Grissom had woken up in a good mood with a phone call from Sara. They were together and it was so nice to start slowly without having to worry. He was almost entirely caught up in his thoughts that he almost missed seeing Hannah in the DNA lab talking with the swing shift tech. He went back and stood in the door way.
"I hope that you have a pass." Hannah laughed.
"Nice to see you too, bug." She always called him bug, ever since she was little. He smiled a little a the memory but quickly went back to business.
"Are you here to see me? I can't really talk right now Hannah."he spoke apologeticly. Hannah laughed.
"You really have no clue do you?" seeing him shake his head no she continued. "Bug, I'm the DNA tech they were so hush hush about. Come on you got somewhere we can dicuss in more detail? See ya later Ann." Ann waved good bye as Hannah and Grissom left out of the lab and walked into his office.
"Its you?!" Grissom looked absolutely stunned.
"Is it that hard to believe, bug? that I would be around you all those years and not be affected?" She smiled and stood to go back to the lab. "I'm gonna get more familair with the lab. page me if you need me." Grissom had just taken notice of how she was dressed. She was wearing pink fishnet under and solid black t-shirt and black pants with pink chains crossing in the back. She had her hair twisted up into pigtails and pinks ribbons tying them up. She almost left out of the room when his voice brought her back.
"You taking fashion lessons from Sanders?" He asked with a smile. Hannah's smile dissapeared.
"He wouldn't know fashion if it came up and bit him in the ass! What a poser!" She walked out the door and to her lab. Her behavoir confused him. Of all people he would think that her and Greg would get along really well, sorta like Sara and Nicky.
An hour later when it was time for shift to start, Hannah had gotten a page from Grissom to meet him in the break room.
"Why the breakroom?" she walked in cautiously to find Grissom plus all of his CSI's watching her as she walked in.
"Is there a reason why everyone is staring at me like I have a third arm?" Hannah was getting irritable. She hated being the center of attention unless she was on stage.
"Everyone This is our new DNA tech Hannah Malone. Hannah, This is Catherine Willows, Sara Sidle, Nick Stokes, Warrick Brown and last but not least Greg Sanders."
"Hey ya'll." Nick smiled at the sound of the accent. Hannah tried to being polite despite her mood and the growing headache.
"All right people, lets get down to business. Hannah I need you to . . ."
