If You Ever Leave Me

Disclaimer: Don't own anything from CSI, CBS or Alliance Productions
or TPTB. I do not own nor make money off any of the characters of CSI. These rights belong to CBS, Alliance Atlantis and Zuiker, Les Moonves and Jerry Brukheimer.

I'm only manipulating these characters to satisfy my own
wicked and twisted desires.

Author's Note: I was inspired by Chapter 23 of Our Spot to go off on
my own tangent. In fact, I had a dream about it. So I've borrowed the
situation at the end of that chapter and one of her characters Melanie
and Claire Grissom for a short time. Melanie isn't a big character,
but she is part of the catalyst for this story. All the other
characters that are not specifically CSI are mine I hope. So this is
my first fanfic. I am taking the plunge after reviewing other
author's for awhile. Most of the chapters are already done. I'll
post them if they are wanted and they can be changed according to your
reception. So here goes the first chapter….

Chapter One: The Departure

Gil Grissom sat in his lawyers' office signing the last of several
trust agreements. It was his final legal act as Dr. Gilbert Aaron
Grissom; possibly his final act as Gil Grissom. He had given his
lawyers long lists of instructions on disposal of his personal
effects, his butterfly collection to the Smithsonian, his personal
papers to UNLV, Stanford and Berkeley; his books to UNLV and
instructions for disposal of any other personal effects that Sara
didn't want, to charity. His personal photo albums and a few other
personal papers were to be moved to special safety deposit box with
access restricted to Sara and to his children.

All his real estate had been signed over to Sara. He had set up 2 new
trusts and made some small changes to the charitable and educational
trusts he had set up long ago. He didn't want any of the charities
that he had supported for more than 20 years to suffer simply because
he couldn't go on. He smiled a little when he thought of the students
that he had helped over the years; he hoped that they had happier
times than he. He setup a revocable trust for Sara that she could
dissolve if she chose.

For his daughter Claire and he suspected that Sara was pregnant with
his second child, he felt it was a boy, he had setup a large
irrevocable trust of which Sara was not the trustee. He had appointed
his lawyers as trustee and his friend Inspector "Sunny" Bruce as
secondary trustee. He wanted to make sure the funds he had reserved
for these 2 children would be safe from anyone Sara chose to marry
later on. This trust was protected from taxes of all kinds; he wanted
his children to be able to make life choices unfettered by concerns
for material needs. He was the least he could do.

He handed over the last of the papers and stood up to leave. "Gil,
are you sure you…" his lawyer Geoffrey Connor asked. "Are you really
sure you want to do all this?"

Grissom sighed. "Yes, it's the right thing to do….I warned her. She
was the only one who could destroy me…..I can't go on like this. You
have the special packages to be delivered 1 week from today? And you
have all my special instructions?"

"Yes, Gil. You know I've always done as you've asked. I've always
given you good legal advice. You can trust me implicitly you know
that….but Gil; I'm your friend, too.
Don't do this, Gil. Can't you try one more time?" Geoff pleaded.

"Between Melanie and Sara, the problems at the Lab and so many other
things….There are no try left in me. Believe me, I've thought about
it. I talked to Father Joseph, in confession of course, I've looked
at it from all sides, now….Look at me reduced to old songs from the
Sixties. I know what I'm doing. Please just carry out my last
instructions, ok?"

Grissom shook Geoff's hand and with a brief smile, he turned and left
the office. He went to the back of the office building, looked
around and walked several blocks to a bank. He went into the safe
deposit repository. This safety deposit box, no one, not even his
lawyers knew about. He removed 2 suitcases from the box. One
suitcase, held a few of his favorite clothes, just enough for a week.
The other suitcase held over $100,000 in small bills, a Glock 9mm
pistol with several clips and several small packages and several sets
of car keys. He never thought he would use the contents of this
suitcase but it was time.

He knew one of the untraceable trucks was parked just a few blocks
down, with a shady grove of trees on one side and a large dumpster on
the other. He was satisfied, that it was in good condition and the
built-in compartment he had asked. Luke always did good work. He
opened the hidden compartment and before he put the suitcase in he
took out 1 small package and the new set of registrations for the
truck. He put his entire current id that he had left and every other
personal item except for 1 picture of Sara & Claire from happier times
and placed it in the special package which he left out for a few
minutes.

He transferred several items from the 1st small package to his pockets
as well as a few bills (he would use cash exclusively from now on) and
returned everything else to the compartment. He checked several times
to make sure no one was around. He got into the driver's side, turned
the key. The engine roared to life and he backed out, entered the
local street and pointed the truck north.

He sighed as he left the city limits of Las Vegas and continued north.

A/N: Claire & Melanie are borrowed temporarily in homage to my
inspriration from the fine author of Our Spot. Love it, love it.
