Prologue – The Beginning

Ares, the Greek God of War, paced around the pages of his prison in fury. He had to find a way out of here! There were so many things still to do. So many wars to start. Hell! There were so many women out there who were calling his name in heated need. Damn those writers for trapping him here to begin with! And damn those actors for keeping him here!

Ares was determined to be free, and he knew he had to come up with something soon. They had already stopped filming Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Young Hercules. And now there was talk that Xena, Warrior Princess was only going to be filmed for one more season. If he didn't find a way out before Xena's last season ended, then he would be trapped inside the pages of the scripts forever.

Ironic. The very same TV show that had awakened his spirit, brought him back to life once again, may very well have been condemning him to death for all eternity. He knew that if it hadn’t been for the popularity of these productions, and the actor who portrayed him, he probably wouldn't be there at all. But how he got there wasn't the important thing. How to get out before the show ended, that was important.

Ares kicked the letter "X" from Xena's name on the cover page and sent it flying, landing on page two of Act I. He walked along the edge of the paper, looking for an "INSERT COMMERCIAL HERE" area to get comfortable in. The blank areas between scenes where station broadcasters were supposed to run the ads served as a good place to take a nap while the cast was around. They were scheduled to be on the set anytime now.

He had tried numerous times to work with the current cast in order to obtaieedoeedom, but had failed miserably every time. They just didn't believe in him - that he really existed. To them, he was just a character in a make-believe story, just some words on paper, and not a real god. And although they put on a convincing act, that's all it was - an act. All of the regular actors, who spoke words from the script, didn't believe in him. But Ares knew that someone who really believed in him could free him by reading lines from the script. A real believer could enable him to cross over to the world of the living. Then he would be alive and real again. All flesh and bones, hot-blooded, sexual male, Greek God real. But how?
