Part 1
Chloe Sullivan, editor and investigative reporter for the local high school newspaper called The Torch, suppressed a yawn as she tried very hard to concentrate on her Biology class. Ms. Delores Epstein’s monotone voice and not pleasing appearance was not making it any easier to stay awake. Admittedly, Science was her least favorite subject and she had managed to keep away from any classes during her four years at Smallville High. But now she found herself needing to take two science classes in order to graduate and it was simply not fair.
“Photosynthesis is the means primary producers, mostly plants, can obtain from energy via light energy.” Ms. Epstein went on and Chloe groaned softly. Damn! When in the hell is this going to be over? She looked over and caught Lana Lang, her very annoying roommate and kiss ass supreme, look at her disapprovingly.
Chloe rolled her sparkling green eyes and looked away only to catch Clark Kent also looking at her with a disapproving frown. Great! Two idiots for the price of one! Pete Ross sure picked one hell of a good time to go away with his parents. Chloe glared at Clark and shifted her attention towards the window.
It was a beautiful, unseasonably warm, spring day and she hatee fae fact that she was stuck in class while her best friends and former ladies of the night, Roxy, Sin and Delilah were enjoying the lovely weather.
The last few weeks had been very hectic for all of them what with them bringing down a drug kin pin and recovering from wounds caused in a horrific gangland shootout. Apollo Jones’ silver eyes still haunted her dreams from time to time and she found herself awaking in a cold sweat. She repeated to herself many times that he was dead and buried but, deep down, she knew that she would always be haunted by his silver eyes.
On the very bright side of the aftermath of the gangland war… Lex Luthor, her wonderful and adorable boyfriend, bought a house for her friends because he didn’t want her to worry.
God, I love him! He’s so cute! Okay, calm down! Remember, you’re supposed to be a hard-nosed investigative journalist. Journalists do not melt mus mush at the mere thought of their significant others.
But Lex’s sexy face and beautiful smile flashed before her and she felt herself turning to mush.
Quit that! Think fierce thoughts… Chloe thought. Though she tried the only thought that came to mind was the memory of this morning. Dawn to be exact. Her dad had awakened her by knocking on her door softly. When she was able to focus her blurry vision on the clock, she moaned in protest. What in the hell was the matter with that man?
“Chloe, sweetheart, Rox is on the phone.” Gabe Sullivan’s familiar baritone came softly through the closed door.
Fear and worry instantly took control of her and she jumped quickly from her bed. She opened her door and practically snatched the receiver from her father’s hands murmuring a quick “Thanks.” and slammed the door in his face.
“Hello?” Chloe said into the receiver. Her voice was a little unsteady with concern.
“Chloe Sullivan, what in the hell did you get me into when you talked me into moving to this backwater, hick town!” Chloe had to pull the receiver away as a familiar feminine indignant cry carried through the wires.
“Rox, is there something wrong?” Chloe tried to suppress the instant laughter that sprang up inside her.
“Yes, there is something wrong! We have large, vicious animals in our front yard. Do you want to explain why we have large, vicious animals in our front yard?” Roxy shrieked.
For a moment, Chloe was stunned by the news. Her eyes widened as she wondered what in the hell is going on? Large, vicious animals!
Give me that phone! Will you get a grip! You’re going to scare the poor girl!
Chloe heard Delilah’s voice in the background before it came through the receiver. “Hey, Chlo, how are you doing?” Delilah responded cheerily.
Delilah, now is not the time for small talk! There are vicious beasts in our yard!
We have to do something!
“Delilah, what is going on?” Chloe asked calming down a little.
“Nothing, doll. Roxy’s just exaggerating a bit.” Delilah responded in soothing voice.
I am not exaggerating! Roxy yelled in the background.
Rox, you’re exaggerating! Another voice responded dryly and Chloe almost laughed at Sin’s dry tone.
Aaah! Go to hell, the both of you…Roxy growled.
“Delilah, what large, vicious animals is Rox talking about?” Chloe asked getting up from her bed. She was now wide awake and very curious. Obviously, she was not going to get any sleep.
“Cows! Roxy is talking about cows. We have cows in our front yard.” Delilah could not hold back any more and burst into laughter. Chloe heard another laugh join Delilah and was hard pressed not to join in.
“Um…I don’t know what to say…” Chloe responded trying to contain her own hilarity.
Will everyone please stop laughing and do something! Roxy shouted at the top of her lungs.
“Um… How about if I call your neighbors and ask them to remove the cows.” Chloe responded slowly as her laughter was burning to get out.
“Thanks, Chlo. You’re a doll. And…can you tell them to hurry it up a bit? Rox, is going to resort to violence very soon.” Delilah chuckled.
“S-Sure. Will do!” Chloe said squeakily. She was dying to get off the phone and just give in to the laughter.
Tell her…to tell them…that if they don’t pickup their vicious beasts very soon, I’m going to get a shotgun and start shooting…Roxy yelled from a distance.
Chloe hung up the phone and gave into the laughter. The hilarity of the situation was precious and it was definitely one for the books. Ten minutes passed before Chloe was able to control herself somewhat. She dialed the number she new so well.
“Hello?” The familiar masculine voice responded sleepily.
“Ah…Mr. Kent…It’s Chloe Sullivan. Sorry to disturb you so early in the morning but we have a slight situation regarding some of your…c-cows.” Chloe squeaked out the last part. God, she couldn’t wait to tell her father and Lex about this.

Biology Class…
Chloe felt the familiar laughter build up inside her and it took all her willpower not to give in. Cows! Too precious!
“Photosynthesis is the reduction process, where Hydrogen is reduced by a coenzyme.” Ms. Epstein’s voice still remained at the same monotone level.
Is this hell almost over?
A series of hard knocks on the door suddenly erupted throughout the class. Chloe and half the class jerked to states of awareness. Finally! Something interesting.
Ms. Epstein stared at the door in mild surprise and stood there for a moment. Chloe wondered if she was going to open the door.
“Are you sure this is the right room? Nobody’s answering the fucking door!” Roxy’s familiar voice took Chloe by surprise. Oh…No!
“Will you watch your language? We are in a school. Not the Southside of Metropolis.” Delilah’s voice growled back.
“Oh please! Give me a fucking break. These little monsters curse just about as much as we do.” Roxy growled back. Chloe felt herself sinking in her seat. This could not be happening.
“Rox, Delilah’s right! Ease off the swearing. You’re supposed to be a fucking lady now. So fucking act like it.” Sin injected her two cents. Chloe slid even further in her seat.
“Sin, that helps me a lot. Really it does.” Delilah responded sarcastically.
“Are you sure we have the right room? I don’t fucking hear anything.” Roxy asked her slightly raised voice.
“Maybe they can’t hear us. Trying knocking a little louder.” Sin replied.
“Ah… Enough with the knocking bullshit.” Roxy growled in annoyance. She quickly turned the knob and opened the door with a bang. Roxy walked into the classroom in all her glory and Chloe wanted to laugh at the outfit she was wearing. Roxy would never be the ‘low-profile’ type of woman. Especially with the outfit she was wearing.
At least she’s wearing pants or something resembling pants. Roxy had on skin tight jeans with a very revealing red shirt that clung to her in all the right spots. Thigh high six-inched heeled red boots and wild hair completed her outrageous look. Sin was dressed somewhat similar to Roxy, except her pants were black and her top was emerald green with matching emerald green boots. Delilah was the only one who seemed to dress normal. She wore a deep purple skirt that fell just below the knee and off white silk shirt. These are my friends…
Chloe looked around and noticed that all the guys including, the sainted Clark Kent, sat up straighter in their seats with various degrees of interest on their faces ranging from curiosity to pure lust. Ugh! Men!
“Shit, woman! What in the hell was taking you so long?” Roxy growled though her eyebrows shot up when Ms. Epstein gave her a disapproving once over.
“Honey…With that ‘I haven’t had any sex in ten years’ outfit, you really should not be looking at me like that.” Roxy murmured as she looked at the gray shapeless outfit Ms. Epstein wore. Chloe hit her head painfully with her hands.
I am going to fail big time…Chloe thought.
“Roxy! Will you behave yourself?” Delilah growled as she looked for Chloe.
Roxy gave Delilah a glare before turning her attention towards the class searching for Chloe. Instead, her dark eyes fell upon a more interesting sight.
“Oooh! Hey, Sin…Look at who we have here… Why if it isn’t the Pink – what was that name? Oh yes! The Pink Nightmare!” Roxy cooed.
“I thought it was the Pink Menace!” Sin’s sparkling blue eyes lit up with unsuppressed hostility.
“Nah! I’m pretty sure it was the Pink Nightmare!” Roxy shot back and Chloe almost choked as stared over in Lana direction. Lana had paled at the sight of the two former ladies of the night and then her face turned an unbecoming shade of red as her brown eyes flashed angrily at Roxy and Sin. There definitely was no love lost between the three of them.
“What is going on?” Delilah softly asked Sin, confusion marring her lovely features.
“We’ll explain later.” Sin responded just as softly while a big smile lit her face. Her sparkling blue eyes focused intently on Roxy knowing Rox was definitely not going to let an opportunity go.
“So, Lana…How’s it going? Last time we saw each other, you were jail for prostitution. Still need that extra cash?” Roxy asked sweetly. Lana’s gasp of horror reverberated around the now very silent room. Chloe’s couldn’t help the coughing fit that suddenly wracked her body.
“O-Okay, Ms. Epstein. I n-need to speak w-with my friends. Outside! Right now!” Chloe pointed towards the door as she cleared her hoarse throat. Roxy merely grinned evilly at her while Sin winked and Delilah just gave everyone a puzzled looked.
Chloe followed the ladies as they turned and left but couldn’t help rolling her eyes as Roxy sashayed from the classroom.
When they were all outside, Chloe softly closed the door and turned a deadly glare on Roxy.
“Ah – Ah… Not here!” Chloe growled as she turned and stalked off. Rox, Sin and Delilah followed at a slower pace. They were all giving each other looks that said they were all in trouble.
They followed Chloe to the office of the Torch. She held the door open and waited for her friends to pass through the doorway before she closed it shut with a soft click.
“I really don’t mind you going after Lana because basically she’s an annoying waste of space but did you have to insult my teacher? Who do you think she’s going to take her anger out on after your comment? What is the matter with you?” Chloe griped.
“Did you see the look she gave me? Sorry, doll, but I will not put up with any uppity, ‘thinks she’s too good for the likes of me’, spinster giving me that kind of look.” Roxy murmured sweetly.
“Perhaps she was a bit pissed off by the fact that you interrupted her class.” Chloe tried very hard to reign in her rising temper.
“Whatever! I saw that look and I know very well what it means. No one is going to treat me like shit.” Roxy continued her own temper rising.
“Never mind! Is there a reason why you guys are here?” Chloe asked softly as she closed her green eyes. They are going to drive me crazy…
Roxy, Sin and Delilah all looked at each other suddenly uncomfortable. Her eyes opened at the sudden silence and at Chloe’s questioning look, Delilah spoke up.
“Believe it or not, there is. Remember a few weeks ago you talked about us becoming investigators…Well…you may get your wish. Rox, Sin and I …sort of volunteered to investigate… a murder.”
