Routine Meet And Greet

The stepped through the gate, O’Neill groaned as they saw the planet.
“Every on the same!” he said. Major Carter, Daniel Jackson and Teal’c followed close behind him, ignoring his comment. It was a routine meet and greet, make a new alliance for earth then head off home. They dropped their packs at the DHD and had a proper glance around. Teal’c suddenly straightened.
“T, what is it?” O’Neill asked him.
“ I am not sure O’Neill.” He replied, he slowly turned towards the tree line, staring into it with concern. O’Neill ignored him for now and pulled out his canteen.
“God this place is hot!” he said.
“Yes sir, this planet is 600 light years closer to their sun than we are to ours, you should get used to it in a few days.” Carter told him. He grunted his response and sat himself on this pack. Daniel was ferreting around looking at a couple of monuments on the northern side of the gate and Teal’c was still staring into the trees. He sighed and got up.
“Come on Teal’s, what’s up?’ he asked him. The Jaffa suddenly straightened and whipped his staff-weapon to his side. He sent a shot into the forest and cry of pain came from it.
“Shit!” Jack shouted as several Jaffa emerged from the trees and started shooting at them.
“Carter, Daniel, Jaffa! Quick!” hlledlled. Carter immediately reached for her p-90 and shot the quickly advancing Jaffa. More and more of them appeared.
“There must be 30 of them!” Jack called as he rolled to a position behind a rock where he could better aim.
“Closer to 40 O’Neill.” Replied Teal’c as he fired. A fire from one of the Jaffa’s weapons hit the DHD. Flames immediately erupted from it. Carter saw the panic in the Jaffa faces. Now none of them had a way home.
“Dammit!” screamed Jack. In his anger he jumped up from behind the rock and started letting bullets rip at as many Jaffa as he could. They fell all around him. Sweat ran down his brow in his frustration. His gunfire ceased. Carter looked up to see why. He was frozen. He looked shocked. She couldn’t figure out why. He dropped his side arm, his hand moved to his stomach, he pulled it off, it was covered in blood. His eyes widened and he fell to the ground.
“Colonel!” she called running to him. The Jaffa around continued to shoot from all around. She collapsed on top of him.
“God sir are you ok?” she asked. Inside she shot herself for asking such a stupid question and pulled open her pack for medica; supplies. She ripped off his vest to examine the wound. She let out a startled scream when she saw the burn. She quickly wrapped a bandage around his waist and pulled his to
Safety behind his rock. There was nothing else she could do until thew gunfire stopped. She was staring to panic, she looked down at him. Tears brimmed in this eyes, she knew he was in pain.
“Hang on sir, its going to be ok.” She told him. He smiled up at her sarcastically. “ It will sir, we’ll take care of you.” She said, desperation was welling up in her. She glanced quickly around, only 6 Jaffa were left. She glanced back down at O’Neill. His eyes were closing.
“No sir, don’t you do that! You can’t fall asleep on me!” she shouted at him. He opened his eyes for an instant looking at her but his eyelids drooped lower and lower and he couldn’t keep them open. “No! Come on Colonel!” she shouted at him. Tears choked her voice. She had to do something. She couldn’t loose him, not yet, not here, not like this. She shook him trying to wake him, she needed help.
“Daniel!” she called, her voice cracking. Tears ran down her face.
“No sir come on, I need you to wake up, I love you!” she called in tears. Suddenly Daniel and Teal’c were at her side. The remaining Jaffa had retreated.
“Oh god, Daniel quick, dial home, we need Fraiser, he needs help!” she shouted at him in tears. He promptly ran to the DHD. Desperately he pushed at the symbols, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7. No blue pool erupted from the gate. The DHD was dead.
“Sam…” he said, voice low. “Sam, it’s not going to work. Its broken Sam.”
She glared at him.
“You will make it work.” She said through tears.
“I cant.” He said. Desperate tears erupted form her eyes.
“Then we need to find help.” She said. She stood up, took the colonel in her arms and heaved him up. She staggered on her feet under his weight. Teal’c crossed the gate platform to her and took the Colonel into his arms.
“Sam, where are we going to go?” Daniel asked. “This planet is inhabited by Jaffa.” He said, looking at her almost sympathetically.
“Daniel, this address was given to us by the Tok’ra, there must be friendly people living here they wouldn’t send us to a Goa’uld occupied planet!” she said. She turned at headed north. The men followed her obediently, neither of them at all confident they would find anyone in time to help O’Neill.
Sam looked at Jack; he lay limply, lifeless in Teal’s arms. She let out a gasp but turned quickly so Daniel and Teal’c didn’t see her cry. They shared a knowing glance but kept quiet.
They had been walking for almost an hour when they faintly saw in the distance smoke from what they presumed was a village. They quickened their pace and soon found to their relief it was. They ran into it calling for help.
Two men, who they presumed were they elders of the village appeared in the middle of the courtyard they found themselves in. Yellow tents surrounded them, what they guessed were the homes of the villagers. Sam ran to the two men.
“Please help us!” she called to them. “Please help us!” she cried. Collapsing at their feet, her shoulders shook with tears; she couldn’t hold it in any longer.
One of the old men bent down; kneeling in front of her he gently lifted her chin with his hand. He looked into her eyes and smiled.
“We will help in any way we can young mistress.” He said. The other man beckoned to Teal’c. He led him to an orange tent, the doctor’s tent. Sam watched the men disappear into it with Jack.
Daniel came softly to her.
“Come on, they're going to give us somewhere to stay, I explained about the DHD. Come on.” He said gently.
“Daniel I can’t.” she said still crying.
“Shh come on, he’ll be fine, come on.” He said softly, leading her towards the village centre. The first old men showed them to a tent and instructed Daniel out Sam to bed. He did so and left the tent to go to his own. It was already late; the heat of the sun had tired him. He knew Sam would be looked after.

Three women came in, gave her new clothes and food. She couldn’t eat it though. They watched her, after a while they took thew still fill bowl from her and ay her down to sleep. Sam lay for hours, looking at the strange ceiling not being able to sleep. It was her fault he was injured. She should have kept a better eye out for him and covered him.
Eventually sleep came to her. She was awakened the next morning by the same women and dressed back into her fatigues. They told her that Jack was recovering but that they wouldn’t be able to see him for a few days.

Daniel spent the day engrossed in the town’s cultures, filming almost everything he saw. Teal’c was distant but seemed to amuse himself teaching the children how to fight with fake staff weapons he had made them out of braches. Sam watched them contently. The local women took her with them and showed her around. She was glad of the distraction and enjoyed they day.

When evening came they all ate together in a large tent she took to be a town hall. She was assured Jack was ok once again. She smiled at the doctor as he told her of what they had done and how Jack was coping. Apparently he hadn’t awoken yet. Sam could see him the next morning. She was so relieved. She slept well that night.
