On the way to recovery
Background; up to newest series. Only spoilers; Daniel is dead (but if you didn't know that, where have you been?!) and SG-1 have a new member to replace him; Jonas. Captain Thea Simone is my own character.
Of course none of these characters belong to me, I am but indebted to those Gods that made Stargate. No breach of copyright was intended.
Captain Thea Simone woke up with a soft groan. Her eyes quickly snapped open taking in her drab surroundings.
Shit, she thought softly as she looked at the small room she was lying in, the grey, dirty walls and floor, and the solid close-set bars blocking the only exit. Even as she noticed all these things, her brain still struggled to remember how she got here.
Screwing up her eyes and pressing her back against the cold wall, Thea thought back over the past few days. She could remember quite clearly receiving the phone call from General Hammond. She had been a member of SG-7 since the relatively new group had been established, and assumed that she was being called in for extra duty. To her surprise she was informed upon entering the general's office that she was to be part of an away mission as a member of SG-1.
Apparently Major Samantha Carter had been struck down by a particularly nasty bout of the flu. The mission was pre-planned and could not be postponed. Thea had chuckled slightly at the vivid image of Carter trying to persuade her superiors that she was fit for active duty. Although the women had met only a few times, Carter's reputation was infamous.
By the time Thea was introduced to the team she had slipped into her professional state, her surprise and pleasure pushed below the surface allowing her to focus on what needed to be done. She did allow herself a warm smile at Jack, an old friend who she had met through her father many years before.
Thea shifted in her dreary prison and winced as a sharp pain went through her side. Carefully lifting her shirt and tank top she stared down at her right side. It was covered in an ugly bruise, and just looking at it made her ribs ache. Once more closing her eyes she felt the memories coming faster now.
The team had arrived at the seemingly deserted planet, and splitting up, they set off to see what they could find. It was suspected that the planet had long ago been taken over by Gau'old rule, and that any inhabitants were either long dead or currently living as hosts or slaves. Though in Thea's mind being a host was the same as being a slave, with the added disgrace of having your entire will stripped from you.
Here in her remembering Thea frowned, her harisirising up to rub against the grime and blood that stained her cheeks. O'Neill had paired her with the Jaffa, Teal'c, a move which Thea thought was wise. Despite his knowledge of her and her excellent track record, Jack wanted to place the newcomer with a strong member of the team, this put Jonas out of the equation, as he himself was new and relatively inexperienced.
A small smile curving her lips Thea had followed Teal'c into a small forest. She remembered hearing a commotion behind her, and then. . . . .
A frustrated sigh exploded from Thea's chest. It was no good; she just couldn't remember how the enemy had taken them. It was easy to see from her present situation that Teal'c and herself had been ambushed, but how exactly was a mystery. They had scoured the area carefully and there were absolutely no signs of any other living beings in the vicinity. Thea hoped that whoever had taken them were acting on instinct, and not with a pre-conceived knowledge of who they were and what they were doing here.
Rotating her head in an attempt to ease somethe the stiffness in her neck, Thea spotted a hole in the wall to her right. Crawling forwards she examined it carefully. It was too small for escape, and when she kicked its edges only a light dust fell down, but it was large enough for her to see into the next cell.
Through it she could see Teal'c sitting with his back against the wall, his legs crossed, his back straight, and his eyes closed. He looked like he was meditating, but Thea had read enough about the Jaffa to know that they needed to enter a state called Kell'Nar Reem in order to rejuvenate themselves. It was their form of a highly advanced, highly efficient deep sleep.
'Teal'c.' Thea hissed, a little worried about disturbing him, as she had not read whether this was dangerous or not. She was hoping not.
'Teal'c.' She insisted louder this time.
His eyes snapped open and for a moment Thea was pinned under his gaze. She took a deep breath and winced as another sharp pain shot through her.
'You are injured.' Teal'c rumbled in that deep voice of his. Thea looked at him, her eyes drawn to the gold mark on his forehead, it stood out so starkly against his deep brown skin.
'Yes. But it's nothing serious. How about you?'
'I am unharmed. Do you have any recollection as to how we arrived here?'
Thea frowned in consternation. 'No. I was hoping you would.'
Teal'c raised a dark eyebrow. 'I do not.'
Great, Thea thought, stretching gingerly onto her belly so that she could see through the gap better
'Where are the others? Do you think they're here too?'
Her voice was taking on a neutral tone as her brain clicked into escape mode.
'I do not believe so. I have not heard them and they were a long way from where we were captured.' He paused, the space seeming so silent without his deep voice to rumble through it.
'Of course, there is always the possibility that they are being held in an area away from ours.'
Thea nodded, 'True.' Her voice was clipped. Despite her cool professionalism she was pissed, and worried for Jack. Of course as a teammate she was concerned for Jonas' welfare, but Jack was her friend, a good one, and she hoped he was all right.
She was just about to speak when the sound of footsteps on the hard floor had her pushing herself up into a standing position. Her head pounded at the sudden change and she gritted her teeth against the pain.
A man stepped in front of the bars that divided them. He was tall and broad, his body encased in oddly cut lengths of cloth wrapped loosely around him. His hair was long and dusky-blonde, pulled back from his face so tightly that the skin of his temples was taut. His eyes were cold, and Thea braced herself. He spoke to her in a language she did not understand, although she recognised it faintly. Wasn't this the language Teal'c spoke? Thea cursed herself, wishing that she had spent more of an effort learning this language that Teal'c, with the help of the late Dr Jackson, had downloaded into the SG C archives.
Seeing the blank look in her eyes, the man laughed scornfully and leant in close to the bars as another phrase hissed from his thin lips.
Thea heard Teal'c reply, his voice commanding and slightly angry. The man merely laughed again, and it was a cruel sound. With a wave of his arm two huge, dark and muscled men stepped forward to unlock the door. Thea took a step back and dropped into a dsivesive crouch, from this position she could spring into an attack at a moments notice.
'Captain Simone.' Teal'c's voice was low and had a hint of urgency in it.
'We are to be tortured.'
At those words Thea felt an icy shiver run down her spine. She had been trained for such a circumstance of course, but now that she was faced with the prospect she felt afraid. And absolutely furious. She focused on this anger that was bubbling inside her, deep in her stomach, and draw her lips into a vicious smile as one of the guards stepped towards her. His face was pitted and scarred, and his eyes were icy cold; vacant of feeling. He paused as if expecting her to walk out the door herself. Thea kept her smile in place.
'You want me, ugly? You can come and get me.' Her voice was a low rumble, and her hands were balled into fists. She was a good fighter, but she was also rational and she knew that this was a futile situation.
When the guard reached for her the ensuing fight was brief and brutal. Thea hung from his hands limply; her face bloodied where her lip had split and a bruise already beginning to show around her left eye. But she was still smiling, and she looked with satisfaction at the blood that gushed from the guard's broken nose. She could still kick ass with the best of them.
As she was dragged away Thea looked back at Teal'c, his hands wrapped around the bars and his eyes trained intently on her face.
Teal'c watched Thea being dragged away from him. He was disturbed. These men spoke the language of his native planet Thulac, yet he did not think they were working for the Goa'uld. None of the men had carried symbiotes, and they sported no outward signs of any allegiance.
A frown creased Teal'c's brow as he sat once more on the hard floor. He hoped Thea would not be hurt too badly, but the look in the guard's eyes had been one that Teal'c had seen many times before, and few who suffered under such men survived.
Remembering the fierce look in the Cin'sin's eyes Teal'c felt mildly comforted. The Tauri women he had met so far were all fierce and capable warriors. He hoped fervently that Thea would survive, and that they would find a way to escape. For now, however, he realised that he would have to wait patiently until an opportunity presented itself.
His dark head snapped up and his thoughts were shattered as a few minutes later he heard an agonised female scream that was unmistakably Thea's.
