I loved this chapter. I'm not sure why anybody is disappointed or surprised. This is exactly Chuck and Sarah from mid Season 1. This is Sarah from Crown Vic. She knew that she was getting to close to him for her own comfort and pushed him away. If you are really going to follow the show, Chuck won't be able to accept the limits on their relationship. He'll go off and look for more. Sarah will see him on a date with Lou from the Deli, lol.
But where ever you take it, I'll be reading.

I almost enjoy reading the conversations and analysis in the reviews as much as I enjoy reading the story. Ok not almost. But wow. I have written stuff and posted it before but I've never had so many people argue and talk about characterization in the reviews. It's like a legit book club in here. You must be super happy MCP but I also feel like you deserve it. I agree with what PFE has been saying, though. I think MCP has demonstrated the skill to give us things underneath even Sarah's first person narration. She's convinced herself that she only wants and needs a fuck buddy because she's scared (of what we don't know yet and I hope MCP tells us at some point!!) and she's doing her best to convince US of the same thing. But you can read underneath all of that. She cares about Chuck in a much deeper way. Just like the show. Yeah Sarah says they aren't going to be anything more, but you don't actually believe that for a second, even if Chuck does at that moment. But then even after that, he doesn't stop caring.
And I don't like the idea of him looking for something else, either. I think the whole idea of Sarah admitting her feelings because Chuck makes her jealous by running off with someone else is very old hat. I think MCP has more skill than that.
Yes, Chuck wears his emotions on his sleeve. And yes, he wants to protect himself. But also I think it's sort of unfair to try to tell MCP that if they don't write it "this certain way" it will be unrealistic and implausible. That's not cool. At the end of the day, I think it's important for Sarah to be totally honest--as honest as she can be since I really do think she doesn't truly understand her own heart right now whether it's fear or inexperience--she has to tell Chuck why. Really lay it all out for him. And give him the choice. Either we keep going, or you can walk away. If he decides not to walk away in that case, I think it's totally plausible and realistic. What if he isn't looking for a girlfriend? Was he looking for one before Sarah, really? Didn't seem that way. And he didn't seem into the idea of Ellie putting him on a blind date, the whole he's got it for Sarah already thing aside. He was disinterested in the idea of dating, not just the woman Ellie set him up with.
You guys are also forgetting that this story is also about sex. Like PFE said. MCP has even mentioned in their notes that they are trying to explore with writing erotica and this is the vehicle they are using. So while the plot is great and important, just sit back and enjoy the ride. Pun intended. Trust your author a little bit and maybe don't tell them what to do so much. I'm sure MCP knows what they're doing.
Can't wait to see what happens next, MCP!
And whether you follow what the prior reviewers say or not, I'll be here reading and I'm 110 percent sure I'll enjoy it too.

@Anon
You say this: "I think you've done a tremendous job of depicting Sarah as simultaneously wounded, terrified of love and DEFINITELY falling hard for Chuck."
Agree with the first two (wounded and terrified) but completely disagree with the suggestion that it has been shown she is "falling hard for Chuck".
Let me first say that I love this story and nothing I say detracts from my enjoyment of it, this is purely how I view her character in this story and me being aware that a lot of this is purely because it's told from Sarah's P.O.V and it's naturally unbalanced because of it.
But most of this just comes across as Sarah being worried that Chuck is going to blur the lines of their arrangement, and Sarah is worried that them fucking is going to cause problems for Chuck as far as his sister is concerned and also the brief things she knows about how he gets attached to females he 'cares' for.
None of this signifies Sarah falling 'hard' for Chuck. There's no question she loves the sex, and she likes/cares for Chuck as a person, but that's a huge leap from what that implies to the suggestion that she is falling in love with him.
Sarah is constantly distancing herself from him, and yet becomes standoffish whenever another potential partner for Chuck comes along. This whole thing just shows a person who wants the exclusivity of their physical aspects but doesn't want any of the emotional complications. She wants him, but only if she can contain him under the rules she feels their arrangement is best worked under.
Very rarely has this story shown this arrangement not being 100% to Sarah's schedule, very rarely has Sarah actually dug deeper into her 'feelings' towards this whole thing, outside of her once again affirming that it's purely sex and nothing else (we do see her contradiction, but it's all internal). Very rarely do you see Sarah go down on Chuck or have any sort of 'night' where she puts Chuck's needs ahead of her own. Look at the difference between how many times Chuck has gone down on Sarah in comparison to her going down on him. It all signifies where the power of the relationship/arrangement is. Maybe MoreCharahPlease is just more comfortable writing about Sarah receiving over her giving, but it doesn't come across as if there is equal say/power in this arrangement.
Then you look at how this story is written from Sarah's P.O.V and we get to see her constant emotional distancing towards Chuck, how she looks to keep reaffirming that this is purely FWB and not a relationship. Clearly she has broken her own rules from time to time, but she does come across as "cold". You throw the relationship elements in with her work problems and Chuck comes across as a tool she has when SHE wants him, but the opposite isn't true.
"I wasn’t upset with Chuck. There was no reason for me to be upset with him. I just didn’t really want to deal with that side of my life at the moment. He wasn’t my boyfriend. I didn’t owe him attention or anything like that." - From chapter 16
= But doesn't Chuck also get access to the "free sex" whenever he wants it? Or does Sarah control every time it happens and Chuck just needs to open up his schedule whenever she puts up the bat signal?
I realize a lot of this is purely because this story is only being told from Sarah's P.O.V but it does make Sarah look cold and standoffish from time to time. I've never seen signals she's "falling in love" with him at all.
Just my opinion...

I'm certainly not upset about these plot developments. I'm happy that something besides sex is happening, even if it's them getting mad at each other. Hopefully it'll lead to good things.
Thanks for writing.

I'm at the stage where I'm hoping chuck goes off and finds someone else for a while. Someone who appreciates who he is and maybe at the same time it makes Sarah realise how much she needs and wants chuck. I'm thinking maybe some time apart suits all parties concerned.

See... I read that as her trying to convince herself of it. Not us.
Subtext vs explicit. But I get why you interpret it the way you do and I can't possibly say who's "righter". (shrug)
(Although I did think Chuck had initiated some of the booty calls... Did I misinterpret?)
Oh well, Ch 17 to read!

Wonder what Sara would do if after this fight Chuck decides he no longer wants to be her sex toy I like to see Chuck call Sara's Bluff and end things and see How Sara reacts

Not mad at ya, something like this had to happen. Definitely still of the opinion (borne out by her own thoughts here) that Sarah is terrified. The last time she felt like this she got burned. And even though Chuck isn't like Bryce, she's afraid of being hurt again. Maybe BECAUSE he's the genuine article she thinks she'll be hurt even worse.
I don't know how many of your readers have met someone like this but it's probably more than even they think; you never realize it at the time...
Which is what Chuck is dealing with. Of course that's not what she SAYS to Chuck. And even though he suspects that she's scared, she's stubbornly sticking to her guns. She's damaged and throwing away something great because of it.
It will be interesting to see what happens next. (As always.) Will she call her fuck buddy? Will he answer? Will he hit it and quit it? How will she feel after THAT?
What excuse will he make for Sarah when Ellie wants to invite her to dinner? What if Ellie and Sarah cross paths and Ellie makes the invitation directly?! Comedy of errors where Sarah shows up at Ellie's ( and hi-jinx ensue)?
Great addition (as usual). Thanks for writing!
