After having just watched the series and the film I thought I’d have a look for some decent fan fics, perhaps to give me a few ideas for my own. This is one of the best Firefly fics I’ve read, and gives a good insight into mainly Inara’s character and feelings. As well as keeping them both in character, it was easy to see how this pairing could have happened during the series. I actually found the ending quite moving. The most surprising thing about this fic is the fact that you haven’t carried on with it. Again, this was very well written.

It's very interesting to see someone's take on Inara, her past, her desires. I was recently introduced to the "Firefly" series by a friend who owned the DVD package of Firefly, sad to hear that it was cancelled, glad a movie came out, sad again to see that the mysteries of most of the character's live were never explored. We know Book had a past....but Book never exposed it to the others . Inara stated to Mal in "Out of Gas" that she favored the Allaince, yet does have a secret. Was she a spy, a Mata Hari, a soldier? River and Simom story we now know...but what of Zoe? Mal and his upbringing on a ranch, did that living and his mother's love drive him to be fight so hard (and lose) against the Alliance (which caused him to lose faith in God as well).
Wash and Zoe...what led them to fall in love (we know she didn't like him initially). Sadly we only have our imagination.
This story is an good guess on what beats inside Inara, and the writer tells it well. I was immediately drawn to it, and considering it as a back story of the "Serenity" episode, I will see it with different eyes.

Brilliantly done - one of the best fics I've ever read here. I hope you have this posted elsewhere - it needs to be read! Beautifully written and wonderful characterization. I hope to read more from you soon.

This is absolutely gorgeous! I like Inara/Kaylee. I like Kaylee with just about everyone, actually, and I'm not a fan of Mal/Inara (though I see that it's supposed to be there). So, your story was right up my alley. I saw their spark during "The Train Job" when Kaylee was in her shuttle getting her hair combed.
One of the best elements I like about this is that you had the present moment and then you had Inara remembering things. After her first memory and the shift back into present tense, I thought there was a mistake, but then I kept reading and realized it was just a good element of your story telling.
Not sure what else to praise, but this is definitely going on my favorites.
